News in the morning

This podcast is okay. I prefer 'Up First' from NPR, because it tends to focus more on high-level news stories, while this podcast tends to focus more on human interest stories and pop culture.

Best in class

Simply the best podcast of its kind. Host Michael Barbaro shows respect for the gravity of the moment and is effective in shedding light on at least some important issue of the day by way of conversations with often newsbreaking Times reporters. An important podcast.

Weekday quick hits of news with excellent in-depth pieces.

My new favorite podcast. Excellent in-depth views of a wide range of subjects. I love it because it often covers stories I'm interested in but wouldn't read.

quick hit of news first thing in the morning

It feels like there's a largely unexplored market for podcasts that have people willing to host and produce them in the early morning hours so people have stuff to listen to while commuting and getting organized for their days. The Daily fits into that framework perfectly, offering around 20 minutes of the most essential news entering the day to allow listeners to quickly feel like they have a clue what's going on without having to stop and read anything. Michael Barbaro is solid as the facilitator, largely staying out of the way and powering through the handful of items with a welcome absence of fluff.

Brief episodes about current news.

Covers one or two topics in depth, often stories I haven't read in the paper so it helps me stay up to date on news other than the latest Trump antics.

Ready by 6am. Just like the daily paper at your door.

As timely and relevant as I could hope for. What did I hear last night about Trump axing climate protections? Hear it is above the fold as the first report today. Short, straight reports from the world we actually live in not an "alternative" one.
