Submit ReviewWe are through three nights in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and there is no shortage of storylines. Frank and Jason went through every series and where things stand right now, but first they dug into what’s going on in Calgary. Frank explained what happened behind the scenes and why Brad Treliving decided to move on after almost a decade in the GM chair.
They then got into the big storylines from the playoffs starting with the goaltending controversy brewing down in Minnesota. After winning game one, the Wild switched up their starting goaltender and then got smoked in game two. Frank thinks this was the right decision and wondered if more teams will start looking at things the way the Wild do.
That wasn’t the only controversial topic from night three. A missed call in overtime between the Hurricanes and Islanders had Isles fans up in arms. Leafs fans are also upset that Michael Bunting was given a three game suspension. Frank and Jason actually sided with Leafs fans on this one, saying that they thought the punishment was too harsh.
They wrapped it up by talking about the teams that are in danger of going down 2-0 despite having home ice advantage. Which team needs a win the most? They gave their thoughts. They also brought in Tyler for a fresh edition of Buy or Sell.

Part two of our playoff preview is up now and after going through all four Eastern Conference matchups in episode 209, Jason and Frank turned their attention to the Western Conference where there are some very, very tantalizing matchups. Before they got into that though, they did talk about a few coaching changes that were made over the last week. Both Anaheim and Columbus made changes behind the bench and now there are two openings in spots where Connor Bedard could land. That led to some lottery talk now that the odds are finalized.
They finally jumped into the playoff previews, starting with the conference’s top seed, the Vegas Golden Knights, taking on the Winnipeg Jets. Can Connor Hellebuyck steal this series? Can Jack Eichel take a step forward in his first-ever playoff appearance? They debated these two questions.
Moving along, they dug into the Avs vs Kraken matchup which is a series that Frank thinks has sweep potential. It’s the first taste of playoff hockey for the Kraken and that fan base will be rocking for their home games, that’s the main reason why Gregor thinks they will steal at least one game from the Avs. The Oilers and Kings will also be meeting in a rematch of their epic first-round series from last year. In their 2022 series, Connor McDavid averaged two points per game. Can the Kings slow him down? Even if they do, the Oilers depth might be good enough to power them through according to Jason.
To wrap it up, they hit on the Wild and Stars, a series that might be the most evenly matched of the four. Jason and Frank outlined the keys to victory on either side of that matchup. Tyler also popped in with his picks and a new edition of Buy or Sell.

Part one of our Stanley Cup Playoff preview is here. Frank and Jason went through every series in the Eastern Conference today on the podcast. Before they got into the playoff talk though, they did hit on the sweeping changes that occurred in Pittsburgh on Friday with Ron Hextall, Brian Burke, and Chris Pryor all being fired after the franchise’s 16-year playoff streak ended. Could the Penguins be eyeing up Kyle Dubas to be their next General Manager? Frank answered that question on the show. They also quickly hit on changes that could come in Ottawa and Calgary.
They then jumped into the playoff previews, starting with the top-seeded Boston Bruins, who set multiple records during the regular season. Will it be a waste of eight days for the Florida Panthers, or do they have a shot at winning this series? Frank and Jason broke down if an upset is possible.
They then moved on to the series that a lot of people think could feature an upset. The Islanders got into the playoffs in the final days of the regular season and now, they’re facing a Hurricanes team that hasn’t been playing their best hockey down the stretch. Jason thinks an upset can happen but Frank isn’t taking the bait.
They also hit on the rematch between the Maple Leafs and Lightning, and whether or not the Leafs can exercise their demons and finally move on. The Bolts are hurting right now, but can they flip the switch for the playoffs. They wrapped it up with the ‘Battle of the Hudson River’ between the Rangers and the Devils. The two were once again split on who they thought were going to win this one

The final week of the regular season is here and there is still a lot left undecided. Frank and Jason did eventually get into the playoff races, but they started off by talking about who’s in the driver seat in the race for Connor Bedard. Coming in last only gives a team a roughly 25% chance of landing the first overall pick, but there are a lot of fan bases hoping their favorite teams lose out this week and increase their chances of landing the Regina Pats forward.
Last night, the Boston Bruins set the record for most wins in a season. Frank thinks this record has an asterisk next to it and explained why. Jason fought back a little bit on that. They also butted heads during their awards talk, specifically around San Jose Shark’s defenceman Erik Karlsson and his Norris Trophy chances. Things got heated as they debated how much voters should value points in the race.
They then got into the playoff races for each conference. Pittsburgh and Calgary are both in big trouble, do either have a chance? Frank and Jason debated that before getting into some of the seeding races. There is only one series that’s already determined, so there is a lot to play for in the next five days.
Tyler Yaremchuk then jumped on for Buy or Sell, which started off with a very cheesy debate. They then got into some of the spicy quotes we got this weekend from Bo Horvat and Chris Wideman. They wrapped it up with some talk about how many 60-goal scorers we could see next season.

Jason and Frank are back with episode 207 of The DFO Rundown, brought to you by Betano.ca. To start things off today, Frank outlined a new piece he’s working on for the site that goes into the total amount that teams spend on players. The salary cap was supposed to mean that all teams spend the same on players, but that’s not the case. Frank told us who the biggest spenders are around the league and Jason gave his take on how that correlates to winning.
Injuries are a big story right now around the league with both the Avalanche and Lightning, last year’s Stanley Cup Finalists, dealing with a barrage of injuries. Cale Makar, Tanner Jeannot, and others could be missing as those two teams prepare for their first-round series. Frank and Jason broke down all those situations and talked about the Bolt’s first-round matchup against the Maple Leafs, which is now locked in.
They also hit on the Eastern Conference playoff race today on the show. The Penguins are limping to the finish line while the Panthers continue their red-hot play. Who’s going to get it? They gave their thoughts on that and also talked about some higher seeds that could be vulnerable in the first round.
Tyler also stopped by for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked them
1:00 - Complete spending report
10:10 - Avs injuries
19:40 - Eastern playoff race

There are just two weeks to go in the regular season and things are still largely undecided in both conferences. Frank and Jason dug into things today on the pod but before that, they had an impromptu discussion about the state of the NHL. They talked about new NHLPA Head Marty Walsh and his potential impact, how the league’s growth has been stunted, and where they need to improve on things. That led to Tyler telling a story about Frank and Jason’s reputation with the kids on TikTok.
They also talked about the fact that offence is up again this season and whether or not this trend is sustainable. Jason has some numbers that point to this change not being an anomaly.
With some teams gearing up for the playoffs, others are getting ready for busy summers and for some teams, coaching changes could be coming. Frank gave his list of coaches that could be on the hot seat and talked about how many jobs could open up this month alone.
They also each gave some trade ideas that they believe could come to fruition this summer. They each had one for a Canadian team and they were spicy. They also dug into the playoff races before bringing in Tyler Yaremchuk for a little Buy or Sell, brought to you by Betano.

There just a few weeks left in the regular season and the races are really starting to heat up. The Flames and Predators are still alive thanks to the slumping Winnipeg Jets. Can the Preds really slip into the playoffs after selling off at the deadline? Jason and Frank talked about that today on the pod.
Want to know how much pressure the Panthers are under? Just go watch how their Head Coach Paul Maurice acted on the team’s bench last night. They guys started the pod by joking a little about what makes them lose their minds like Maurice. It also led to a conversation about whether or not the NHL is protecting their officials too much right now. Frank thinks the league is getting a little bit soft when it comes to how they coddle their referees.
They also broke down Frank’s Top 50 Unrestricted Free Agents list starting at the top with Maple Leafs winger Michael Bunting. Frank got ratio’d on Twitter for putting him there, but he explained why it made sense. Gregor compared him to another former Leaf that left in free agency and found success in his new home: Zach Hyman. They also hit of Tyler Bertuzzi, Vlad Gavrikov, and John Klingberg.
They wrapped things up by ranking the teams in each conference and Tyler Yaremchuk stopped by for a little Buy or Sell brought to you by Pointsbet Canada.

It was a hectic weekend around the NHL with both conference's playoff races still not over yet. The Florida Panthers, Calgary Flames, and Nashville Predators are all on the outside looking in and haven’t exactly taken the bull by the horns over the last seven days. On the other hand, the Winnipeg Jets and Pittsburgh Penguins could have put those teams right out of it with a solid hot streak and neither of those teams has been able to do that. That means the final few weeks of the regular season should be very interesting.
Frank and Jason talked about that today on the pod. Before that though, they recapped Frank’s week off and his trip to Disney World. He’s been a handful of times this year and talked about his disdain for the whole experience. Jason has never been and is planning on taking his boy, but Frank gave him some insight into how things work and kind of scared him off of the idea.
They also talked about the playoff format, the LA Kings heading into the playoffs, and Auston Matthews tremendous weekend. The talk for a lot of teams right now is about peaking at the right time and playing their best hockey as they head into the playoffs and both the Kings and Leafs have been hitting their stride. Tyler Yaremchuk also got the guys to guess some price tags on players eligible for extensions this summer.

It was a wild weekend around the NHL as playoff races continue to heat up. We had multiple 7+ goal outputs from different teams around the league and some of the teams that were victims of those offensive explosions were teams that were in the mix. Frank and Jason opened up the show by talking about the sliding Penguins, who are just barely hanging on in the Eastern Conference with the Florida Panthers lurking. Will they hold on?
If they miss, could Ron Hextall pay the price with his job? It could happen and Frank also talked about an interesting story out of Toronto that ties into a possible GM change in Pittsburgh.
From there, they went out West where it seems like nobody wants to grab a hold of the playoff race. The Jets, Predators, and Flames all continue to play very average hockey and it’s led to the wild card race staying wide open.
They also hit on McDavid’s race to 150 points before bringing in Tyler for a new edition of Fill in the Blank brought to you by Pointsbet Canada where he asked the guys about the upcoming free agent class in the NHL.
0:40 - Penguins slide

Jason and Frank are back with another episode of The DFO Rundown and they kicked things off with some fireworks as they talked about the Jordan Binnington vs Marc-Andre Fleury “non-fight”. Frank says this was just another example of Binnington’s fake tough guy act. Gregor wanted to see the linesmen let them go at it.
That spilled into a conversation about the state of fighting in the sport. They talked about some talks that happened at the GM meetings about this topic and how some in the sport want to see an end to fights after clean hits. The QMJHL is also becoming the first major junior league in Canada to outlaw fighting completely.
The NHL has two 100-point scorers already this year, and they’re both on the same team. The guys talked about Draisaitl’s remarkably productive season, if he’d be able to do it without 97, and where he ranks all-time amongst European centremen. Is he going to be the best ever? They also talked about McDavid’s remarkable season, which led to some talk about Connor Bedard and who’s doing the best tank job right now in the NHL.
Tyler hopped in with some Buy or Sell questions which started with one about McDavid’s historic season. He also asked them about which second seed has the best chance to catch their respective division leader. He wrapped it up with some talk about a very unique way that Gregor uses a frying pan.

Frank and Jason are back for another Monday edition of the pod. There was some major news late last week with the Flyers moving on from General Manager Chuck Fletcher. They broke down what led to this firing, where the Flyers go from here, and Frank gave some insight into Danny Briere’s chances of being named the full-time General Manager.
They also talked about what’s expected to be tabled at this week’s GM meetings down in Florida. From the salary cap to fighting, there will be some pretty big topics on the table as all 32 GM‘s meet up for one of their annual meetings.
We are over a week removed from the NHL trade deadline as well, which means we have a pretty good sample size for some players on their new teams. Jason brought up two players in particular who are off to surprisingly strong starts with their new clubs and one of them could have a big impact on how the playoffs go in the Western Conference.
They also dug into the playoff races and declared a few more teams as dead. Tyler also popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank delivered by Pointsbet Canada.

The conversation on the pod has shifted fully from trade talk to discussion about the playoff races and suddenly, there are playoff races in each conference. Last year, there was something to watch down the stretch in the Western Conference but no race at all in the East. This year, there are two teams in the West and a handful in the East who still have a legitimate shot at taking one of the final two wild card spots. Jason and Frank started off the pod by talking about which teams they like to keep things close in the final month of the season and which teams could slip out.
After giving their thoughts on teams that have a lot to play for down the stretch, they talked about teams that have their focus solely on the first-overall pick and Connor Bedard. They dug into which teams would be the best and worst fits from both a league perspective and a hockey perspective.
Tyler also popped in for ‘Buy or Sell’ brought to you by Pointsbet Canada. He asked the guys about Connor McDavid’s ridiculous season and relocation rumours.

With the trade deadline in the rearview mirror, Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli sat down for a full breakdown of what happened over the last week in the NHL. They talked about which teams they feel made themselves better, which General Managers might be kicking themselves for not doing enough, and also which ones maybe went a little bit too crazy with their deadline spending.
As expected, there was a lot of talk about which teams did the best job of loading up but Frank and Jason also took some time to talk about which organization did the best job of selling off at the deadline. The Blues and Predators both made some tough decisions, but they could end up being big winners down the line.
They also talked about the Senators' playoff chances, the Sabres’ trade deadline moves, the Carolina Hurricanes' lack of activity, and some of the teams that stayed quiet.
Tyler Yaremchuk also joined the guys for a new edition of Fill in the Blank brought to you by Pointsbet Canada. He asked the guys about the Calgary Flames' plummeting playoff chances and more.

Is this a deadline preview show? Or a deadline wrap up show?
We are still more than 24 hours away from the NHL trade deadline and most of the names at the top of Frank Seravalli’s Trade Targets board have evaporated. Chychrun, Kane, Ekholm, Gavrikov, Granlund, and more have all been traded since we recorded our last episode.
To break down all the activity we’ve seen over the last 48-72 hours, Frank and Jason went division by division to go through every team around the league. They started with the Bruins, who made two major moves today with the Pastrnak extension and the Tyler Bertuzzi trade, and then got to the rest of the Atlantic.
The West has not been as active, but some teams have made big moves. In the Central, the Avs have nibbled around the edges of the trade market and everyone is watching to see if the Dallas Stars will make a big splash.
They then went back to the Eastern Conference and looked at the Metropolitan division where the Rangers have loaded up but the Canes have been quieter than expected.
Back in the West, the Oilers and Kings have both made major adds. They finished up the show by talking about what else could go down in that division including a fascinating situation in Calgary where GM Brad Treliving is in a tough spot.

We got a couple of big moves this weekend in the NHL as things continue to heat up ahead of trade deadline. Timo Meier is off to the New Jersey Devils, Tanner Jeannot is now a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Vegas Golden Knights sacrificed a top prospect for Ivan Barbashev. Frank and Jason broke down all the news that we got over the last 48 hours.
Teams are making their moves early but there is still plenty that could happen over the next five days. The guys also gave their thoughts on some moves that haven’t happened yet. The Rangers appear to be a lock to get Patrick Kane, the Predators are open to moving Mattias Ekholm, and the Flyers have made it known that Kevin Hayes is available. There is a lot going on behind the scenes and Frank gave us the latest.
Tyler Yaremchuk also popped in for Buy or Sell brought to you by Pointsbet Canada. He asked the guys about which GM is facing the most pressure, the K’Andre Miller spitting incident, and the odds on some teams to miss the playoffs.

Things are happening around the NHL. We had two trades yesterday and there will surely be more this weekend. We are basically one week from the trade deadline and there are still plenty of teams that want to get something done before then.
Frank put out his newest trade targets list and today on the pod, he broke down all the new names that have popped up on the trade market. Dmitry Orlov, Joel Farabee, and Tanner Jeannot are all players that could be moved. Frank and Jason also talked about the possibility of the Vancouver Canucks moving on from JT Miller less than a year after signing him to a massive extension.
They also talked about a pair of Eastern Conference powerhouses in Boston and Carolina and what they could do ahead of the deadline. Those two teams have been dominant almost all season long and could be looking to bolster their roster ahead of the deadline. Another team that’s heating up in the East is the New York Rangers and now there’s word that they could be interested in adding Patrick Kane just weeks after getting Vladimir Tarasenko. Frank gave us the latest on the Kane situation.
Tyler Yaremchuk also got the guys thoughts on the Golden Knights, Senators and some under-the-radar candidates that could be on the move ahead of the deadline.

What a weekend in the NHL! We got a big trade, some other substantial news off the ice, and it was a topsy-turvy week in the standings as well. To begin today’s podcast, Jason and Frank took a look at the Ryan O’Reilly trade that we saw on Saturday night. Kyle Dubas and company pushed their chips into the middle byu moving four draft picks, but are O’Reilly and Noel Acciari enough to push them past the first round? Frank also talked about why he has a problem with where the bar is being set in Toronto.
From there, they talked about the news that Jonathan Toews is going to be staying in Chicago this season as he continues to battle an illness. The Hawks won’t be able to get anything for their Captain, but Patrick Kane may have upped his trade value with a Sunday night hat-trick against the Maple Leafs. Jason also wondered about the potential availability of Max Domi.
They also looked into some teams that are going to be facing tough decisions. The New York Islanders haven’t been the dominant force some thought they’d be after acquiring Bo Horvat. The Washington Capitals are slipping and how a lot of pieces they could sell off. The Pittsburgh Penguins have games in hand on a lot of teams, but they are far from a lock to make the playoffs. It’s going to be a wild finish in the East.
Tyler Yaremchuk also stopped by for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about the Tampa Bay Lightning, Edmonton Oilers, and St. Louis Blues.

We are now just over two weeks away from the NHL trade deadline and with plenty of news potentially coming, we decided to drop today’s episode of the podcast a day earlier than usual.
To start today, Frank and Jason talked about the two big names in Chicago: Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. The market is changing for these players with Toews out of the lineup due to an illness and Kane having full control of his destination. Frank explained why Toews has plummeted down his trade bait board.
From there, Jason gave his thoughts on some of the new names that Frank has put forward on his board including Carson Soucy out of Seattle. They also batted around potential deadline strategies for teams like the Canucks, Oilers, and Hurricanes.
Tyler Yaremchuk stopped by for a new edition of Buy or Sell delivered by Montanas. He had some takes on the New York Rangers, Nashville Predators, the Pacific Division ahead of the deadline, and Connor McDavid’s potentially historic season. The guys laughed at the ridiculous odds that Pointsbet Canada is offering for the Hart Trophy, which feels like it’s firmly in McDavid’s grasp.

The guys are back with a post Super Bowl Sunday edition of the podcast. Frank was in Phoenix for the big game. To start the pod, they talked about that experience and what being in the building was like. Frank also gave his review on the half-time show and talked about his Eagles collapsing in the second half.
After the Super Bowl talk, they got into the other big news that came out of Phoenix this weekend. The Coyotes held Jakob Chychrun out of the lineup for trade-related reasons on Saturday night and it seemed like a deal was about to go down but here we are on Monday morning and Chychrun is still a member of the Coyotes.
What are the Coyotes looking for? Are the LA Kings really the team that’s most likely to land him? Frank gave us some insight into that.
That led to some talk about the three players available in Chicago: Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Jake McCabe. Jason wondered if the Carolina Hurricanes could go all in and grab Patrick Kane. Frank thinks they might be looking at Timo Meier.
They then shifted over to the Pacific Division where the Vegas Golden Knights are suddenly in the market for a goaltender. Logan Thompson is hurt but regardless of his health, they’re likely going to be looking for a goalie ahead of the deadline. Frank also thinks they’ll look to add some scoring help and wondered about Patrick Kane as a fit.

We are now just 21 days away from the NHL Trade Deadline and we’ve now seen our second massive trade of the season. That means Jason and Frank had a lot to discuss on today’s episode of The DFO Rundown.
They started things off by discussing the Vladimir Tarasenko trade. The Rangers are clearly loading up and this move makes them even more dangerous offensively. Frank thinks the trade was actually a big win for the St. Louis Blues though, who managed to get a first-round pick back in the move.
With both Tarasenko and Horvat now off the board, is the market going to pick up for Timo Meier? Jason thinks he might be the most impactful player who’s moved ahead of the deadline and shared some teams he thinks should be calling Sharks GM Mike Grier looking to swing something. One of the teams he listed is even in the Pacific Division.
Frank went on to share some insight into potential deadline plans for the Vegas Golden Knights, Minnesota Wild, and Winnipeg Jets before the guys welcomed in Tyler Yaremchuk for a new edition of Buy or Sell delivered by Montanas.

Frank and Jason are back after a little All-Star weekend hiatus and they had a lot to breakdown, starting with the Bo Horvat extension on Long Island. Does this make the trade a clear win for Lou Lamiorello and the Islanders? Or did they just overpay for a player having a career year?
They also recapped All-Star weekend and talked about what went well and what the league should be looking to improve on going forward. There were issues around the length of events among other things that they discussed.
We also saw a trade on Sunday night as the San Jose Sharks moved defenseman Jaycob Megna to the Seattle Kraken in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick. Frank talked about this move and Jason wondered about what else the Sharks could sell off ahead of the trade deadline. Sticking with trade talk, they also hit on the Penguins, Sabres, and Golden Knights.
To wrap things up, they talked about the playoff races that are forming in either conference and which teams they're keeping an eye on heading down the stretch.

We are back together in-studio for episode 190 of The DFO Rundown. Frank Seravalli was in town for the big pond hockey tournament out at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge so he recapped how the weekend went. Tourism Jasper puts on a great tournament and the guys came back with some awesome stories.
They then got into the hockey talk. The league is slowly heading into the All-Star break so Jason and Frank gave their biggest positive and negative surprises from each conference. That led into a conversation about the Seattle Kraken and whether or not their success is sustainable. Should Ron Francis push some chips into the middle at the deadline? They talked about that and discussed a spicy trade proposal.
The conversation then got flipped and they dug into which teams have really failed to live up to expectations. Could the Senators become aggressive sellers and look to move on from a piece like Alex DeBrincat? Frank brought up the possibility of it.
Before moving on, they did the same exercise with individual players. Frank and Jason talked about a pair of Oilers and Sabres who are having career seasons.

Episode 189 of The DFO Rundown was a special one. We’re almost 200 episodes in and this is one of the few times where all three of Frank, Jason, and Tyler were in the same room for the podcast. With Frank out in Edmonton for the weekend, they decided to meet up and crush out an in-person edition of the podcast.
To start things off, they talked about a very famous Edmonton event: The World’s Longest Hockey Game. Jason has played in it before and shared some stories while Frank really wants to try it.
They eventually got into some NHL talk starting with the red-hot Buffalo Sabres. Don Granato has his group in a playoff spot as we head toward the end of January. Are they legit? How did they turn around their culture this quickly? Frank and Jason debated that.
From there, they went out West where the Minnesota Wild appear to be falling apart. Matt Dumba and Ryan Hartman have both really struggled and have been healthy scratched. Is the amount of dead cap space on the books catching up to the team? Can they work their way back into a crowded Western Conference playoff picture? It’ll be one of the biggest storylines in the second half of the season.

What a dramatic weekend in the NHL. We watched Bruce Boudreau’s time in Vancouver come to an end in a very public way. Frank gave some insight into just how this situation got as toxic as they did. Did management want to make a change earlier? They also talked about the spot that Rick Tocchet is now in as the Canucks new Head Coach.
They then went across Canada to talk about the news that Cole Caufield is going to miss the remainder of the season. The Canadiens have been moving up the standings recently, which goes against what a large part of their fan base wants them to do and that’s tank for Connor Bedard. From there, Jason and Frank naturally transitioned into the Florida Panthers, who traded their 2023 first round pick to the Canadiens at last season’s deadline. Right now, they’re on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoff picture. Jason thinks they’ll get in while Frank has them as sellers.
Darryl Sutter also made some comments about rookie forward Jakob Pelletier, who made his debut on Saturday, that drew criticism. Is too much being made of this or was Sutter out of line? The guys gave their thoughts on it and then got into the current state of the Flames. Should they be looking to add ahead of the deadline?

Today on The DFO Rundown, Jason and Frank were joined by Craig Button of TSN and the Kool Button podcast. Of course, how could you not start things off by talking about Connor Bedard. Craig talked about how he wrestled with using the term ‘generational’, the comparisons to Gretzky at the WJC, and where the best landing spot for him is. They also got Craig’s thoughts on Matvei Michkov, who his biggest wild cards are in this year’s class, and some of his draft philosophies. To wrap it up, Frank officially welcomed Craig to The Nation Network family with the announcement that the Kool Button podcast is joining the network!
Before getting to Craig, Frank broke some news about Max Pacioretty, who suffered another injury last night after working his way back into the lineup. It could be another long-term injury for Pacioretty.
From there they talked about some trade deadline topics and also about the Ivan Provorov situation. Should the Flyers have handled it differently? They also gave their thoughts on the different reactions to his decision.
To wrap up the pod, they brought in Tyler Yaremchuk for a fresh edition of Buy or Sell delivered by Montanas and Pointsbet Canada.

Today on The DFO Rundown, Frank Seravalli and Jason Gregor went around the league to check in on a handful of different storylines. To kick things off, Jason went in on the idea of fully getting rid of the shootout. Would a full ten-minute period of 3v3 overtime really work? That also led to some talk that the league needs to remake the point system.
From there, they dug into the Western Conference playoff picture. The Seattle Kraken just finished a historically successful road trip and now seem like a stone-cold lock to make the postseason. It's also possible that five teams from the Pacific Division will make the playoffs, which was also discussed on the show. The Vancouver Canucks likely won't be one of those teams as they continue to roll through a season filled with drama, the latest in which surrounds their Head Coaching situation with rumours about Rick Tochett swirling.
They then took a trip out to the Metropolitan Division to talk about the Flyers and their seeming lack of direction. Also, are the New York Rangers starting to look like Stanley Cup Contenders finally?
To wrap things up, they broke down the seven-year extension that the Minnesota Wild gave to young forward Matt Boldy. Is committing $49 million to a player with under 100 games played a good move? They debated that as the news rolled in live during the podcast.

It's an all news edition of the podcast, the guys started off by talking a look at the latest chapter that is the Vancouver Canucks soap opera. Oliver Ekman-Larsson was made a healthy scratch this week and the team continued struggling their way through the 2022-23 season. Are changing coming? Is there even anything management can even do to turn this around right now? Frank and Jason gave their thoughts.
From there, they hit on the struggling Colorado Avalanche, who lost to the Chicago Blackhawks last night. It's starting to get late early for the Avs who still find themselves on the outside looking in when it comes to the Western Conference playoff picture. That led to some talk about other teams around the Avs like the Oilers, Flames, Blues, and Predators. They also talked about what the Seattle Kraken could look to do at the deadline. They wrapped up the show with some talk about the Winnipeg Jets, who are coming off a win and have first place in the Central Division firmly in their sights.

To start today’s show, Frank and Jason looked at a pair of intriguing teams in the Eastern Conference. The Detroit Red Wings have not been the model of consistency but they’re still in the hunt as we approach the second half of the season. Could Steve Yzerman look to be a buyer at the trade deadline? They also looked at the Florida Panthers, who are currently 16 points back of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Frank think’s it’s a lock that the Panthers will sell off at the deadline and listed some pieces that GM Bill Zito could look to move.
They then shifted their focus to the Western Conference. The Kraken have been one of the best road teams in the NHL and are looking more and more like a lock for the playoffs. The Blues got dealt a tough blow with some injuries but suddenly started playing even better and are back in the race. Also, the two teams who met in the conference finals last season have just been sputtering along all season.
Jason then welcomed in Brett Sutter to the show. He talked about playing in his 1000th career AHL game, the grind of his career, and being from one of the most famous hockey families in the sports history. There were some great stories from his long career and he talked about his plans for the future.

Jason and Frank had their things to watch to close out this Friday's episode of the DFO Rundown. Jason and Frank are back after their holiday break and they have a lot to get off their chests. Frank and Jason debated that. They also talked about which teams are in positions to go all-in ahead of the March 3rd deadline.
Today is the Winter Classic at Fenway Park between the Bruins and Penguins. Is the event getting stale? Frank says yes and while Gregor agreed, he doesn’t think that’s a problem. They talked about how the league could improve the yearly outdoor gamea or if it’s time to scrap it for a few seasons.

It’s a holiday edition of the show as we put together our final podcast of 2022 today. Frank and Jason opened the show with some talk about the holiday season. From there, they touched on the NHL’s holiday schedule and how nice it is that the league gives its players and employees time to spend with their families.
They then hit on Elias Pettersson’s ‘flu game’ from last night. He popped home five points and scored the shootout winner, which is wild considering the team thought he would be too sick even to lace up his skates. They also touched on the Buffalo Sabres and whether or not they could look to be buyers at the deadline.
Oh, Frank also told a lockout story that involves, in his words, a “one night stand”. It was great.
Tyler Yaremchuk also popped in for a Christmas edition of Buy or Sell, delivered by DoorDash and Pointsbet Canada.

Few NHLers know Alex Ovechkin better than Brooks Laich. In fact, only two players have spent more time on the same team as Alex Ovechkin during his career (Niklas Backstrom and John Carlson). So who better to join the pod to discuss ‘The Great 8’s’ milestone week than a guy who was there for a good portion of his 800 goals. What’s Ovechkin like in the room? What were Laich’s first impressions of a young Ovi? He answered all those questions and took us through what he’s been up to since his playing career ended. His business has taken him to almost every continent in the world and he had some fascinating stories.
Tyler Yaremchuk also hopped in for his weekly segment and asked the guys about Logan Thompson’s Calder Trophy case, the Metro division, and John Tortorella’s decision to bench the Flyer's leading scorer, Kevin Hayes, even though the team is averaging under 2.5 goals per game. He also shared some of the latest odds available on Pointsbet Canada.

Frank is back from the Board of Governors meeting in Florida and shared with us what he learned from his time around some of the most important people in the sport. Could the cap go up by more than $1 million? Frank thinks it will, despite Gary Bettman’s comments.
From there, Jason talked about the controversial call last night that negated an Oilers overtime victory. McDavid wasn’t happy about it, but was he right to be upset? Gregor gave some insight.
He then asked Frank for the latest on Bo Horvat before getting into some other names that could potentially be available ahead of the 2023 NHL trade deadline in March. Could the Anaheim Ducks go full scorched earth and move some players that we currenty view as key pieces?

This was a big week for Jason Gregor. As the President (unofficially) of The Tage Thompson Fan Club, Gregor has been really enjoying the wild run that he’s been on and his second six-point performance of the season was an absolute masterpiece. Could this season be the best non-entry-level contract bargain in the salary cap era? He and Jason discussed that.
From there, they went around the Western Conference. They started with the Blues, who may be forced to make a tough decision regarding Ryan O’Reilly. They then went to the Colorado Avalanche, who could be in the market for a big-name forward. They then hit on the Vancouver Canucks, who are stuck in ‘NHL purgatory’ as Gregor put it.
To wrap things up, they brought in Tyler Yaremchuk for what some are describing as the most entertaining edition of Fill in the Blank we’ve ever had.

What a wild weekend it was in the NHL. The theme of the season has been streaks. From teams being on wild heaters, to long losing skids, to remarkable point streaks from a couple of the games stars. There have been some amazing runs this season.
Frank and Jason started the podcast by talking about one team that has really struggled this season: the Washington Capitals. What could it look like if they become sellers? From there they talked about Tage Thompson’s hot streak, teams tanking and Tyler Yaremchuk stopped by for Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash. He asked the guys about Brock Boeser, Robertson/Marner point streaks, and the Boston Bruins.
They then welcomed in Aaron Portzline, who covers the Columbus Blue Jackets for The Athletic. Aaron has seen it all in Columbus as someone who has covered the team since they started in the NHL. It’s December and that means the holidays are just around the corner. Jason started the show with a rant about how some parents handled a certain Christmas-time tradition for their kids.
They did eventually get into some big stories from around the league starting in the Pacific Division where seemingly ever team with the exception of Vegas is having a bit of a goaltending problem. Cal Petersen has already been sent to the AHL, should the Oilers follow go down that path to try and fix Jack Campbell? Jacob Markstrom has been wildly inconsistent for the Flames as well and the Canucks could be without Thatcher Demko for a while. There are a lot of teams out West with goaltending problems. Frank and Jason gave some insight into that.
From there they got into the Alex Formenton discussion. Why did he stay unsigned? Frank provided some context on that and talked about where he could go now since he’s ineligible for the remainder of the 2022-23 NHL season.
Tyler Yaremchuk also popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash and Pointsbet Canada.

After taking the back half of last week off for American Thanksgiving, Jason and Frank returned today with a new episode of the podcast. Off the jump, they talked about their weekends which featured Frank’s run in with an interesting uncle and Gregor had some takes on the World Cup.
They eventually did get into the hockey side of things and started by talking about the surprising number of comebacks we’ve seen over the last couple of days in the NHL. From there, they talked about Matt Murray’s strong play between the pipes for the Maple Leafs, the Kraken and their strong play through the month of November, and the Rangers struggles. Tyler Yaremchuk also had a couple of awards questions in a new edition of Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash and Pointsbet Canada.
Their guest today on the pod was Sara Orlesky. After 14 years with TSN, she’s now in a new role with the Winnipeg Jets. The team is off to an incredible start as they currently lead the Central Division. After not making the playoffs last season, there were a lot of changes for the Jets. They brought in Rick Bowness to be their Head Coach and they took the Captaincy away from Blake Wheeler. Sara talked about the impact of both of those moves and everything else that’s propelled the Jets to their red-hot start.

Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli are back with another episode of The DFO Rundown. To kick things off, they talked about children's sports/activities and which ones drive parents the craziest. From there, they moved onto something that’s driving Leaf’s fans crazy: Auston Matthews' goal total. The Leaf's superstar is on pace for undergo 40 goals right now and only has two even-strength markers through 19 games. Is this concerning? Or will AM34 heat up?
Their big guest today was Chris Therien, the Philadelphia Flyers' all-time leader is games played. He talked about his battle with alcoholism and the book he wrote about both his struggles and triumphs. He also spoke about his career during Rapid Fire.
After that, Tyler Yaremchuk stopped by for a new edition of Fill in the Blank delivered by DoorDash. He asked the guys about the Hart Trophy, Shane Wright, the Penguin's playoff chances, and Thanksgiving!

Today to start the podcast, the guys got a little personal. Frank is struggling with what to get his wife for Christmas, especially considering what she’s asked for. He also has a problem with the youth hockey team he runs.
After that, they dug into the New Jersey Devils' winning streak. It’s now up to 11 games. For a team that most expected to be a fringe playoff contender, it’s been wild to watch them emerge as one of the best teams in the NHL. It’s been a season full of streaks. The Bruins have been dominant on home ice, teams like the Blues and Sabres have seen each side of things, and the Penguins have struggled to get going. Are they the team that should be the most concerned? Frank thinks so.
They also brought in Tyler Yaremchuk for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked them about Jakob Chychrun, the St. Louis Blues, and the Ottawa Senators. They also discussed Stanley Cup odds courtesy of Pointsbet Canada

It’s Hall of Fame weekend in the world of hockey and that is where Jason and Frank started today on The DFO Rundown. The love shown to Bjore Salming over the weekend was incredible and the Leaf's tribute to their legend was the biggest story of the weekend. From there, they discussed this year's HHOF class which includes three Swedish players. It’s an interesting class as none of the NHLers inducted have won a Stanley Cup and that led to a debate about players who still aren’t in the Hall yet.
They then shifted their focus to the action on the ice over the weekend. The Devils can’t stop winning and the Canucks struggles continued. Will changes come in Vancouver? Frank seems to think so.
Former NHL goaltender Devan Dubnyk then joined the show. He talked about his long career as both a starter and a backup. His 12-year run in the NHL had a lot of ups and downs and he spoke about his mentality through it all. He also shared his plans for retirement and they had some fun in Rapid Fire.

The regular season is almost a month old and both the Arizona Coyotes and Chicago Blackhawks are tied for a playoff spot. It’s safe to say that the start of the season has not exactly gone the way most of us expected. The teams on hot streaks, like the Devils, Bruins, Jets, and Golden Knights, have kept them rolling for a long time. On the other hand, the teams on cold streaks, the Blues, Penguins, and Flames, have really struggled to snap out of them.
Frank and Jason took a trip around the league and answered a bunch of big questions. Who’s the most surprising division leader right now? Which division is most likely to produce the Stanley Cup Champion? Can the Kraken miss the playoffs? Will there be any big playoff races? Or could this season be just as boring as last year? How many goals will McDavid finish with? They got to all of that and they had Tyler Yaremchuk pop in for a new edition of Buy or Sell delivered by Doordash.

4:40 - Lack of playoff races?
6:30 - Surprising division winners
12:40 - Buy or Sell

An all news episode of The DFO Rundown is here to get your through your Monday afternoon. Frank and Jason kicked off the show with an in-depth conversation about the Boston Bruins signing and subsequent release of Mitchell Miller. What were the Boston Bruins thinking? Why did the NHL approve the contract? Was Don Sweeney pushed into this move? The two tried their best to answer all of those questions.
After that, they went around the league and checked in on a bunch of different teams. The Devils are still red hot and rolled through western Canada. The Kraken keep surprising us as well. Are they a legit playoff contender or is this just a team on a hot streak? They also touched on the Red Wings and Senators before getting to Tyler Yaremchuk for ‘Fill in the Blank’ delivered by DoorDash. Tyler asked the guys about Connor McDavid, the Blues losing streak, and goaltending options on the trade market that the Leafs could consider. Frank and Jason wrapped up with some talk about coaches on the hot seat as well.

We are past the point of early season overreactions and now getting to the point where it’s time to wonder if struggling team members can get things back on the rails. That’s where Jason and Frank started today on the podcast. They also hit on the Ryan Reynolds rumours and the Senator's potential sale.
They eventually did get to some positive surprises around the league starting with the New Jersey Devils. With Blackwood potentially out, will their goaltending hold up? It’s Halloween night and we dropped a spooky edition of The DFO Rundown to celebrate the occasion. The Toronto Maple Leafs have certainly spooked their fan base with their play early in the season and now, Sheldon Keefe might be losing some sleep as the team wraps up their western road trip. For Bruins fans, this start to the season has definitely been a huge treat. The team is rolling and David Pastrnak is shooting the lights out, which led Jason and Frank to talk about what his next contract could look like.
Tyler Yaremchuk then stopped by for a special Halloween edition of Buy or Sell delivered by our friends at DoorDash. He asked the guys about the Jets, Golden Knights, and also Erik Karlsson’s resurgence and if that could lead to the Sharks defenseman having trade value around the league.
They then got to their big guest of the week: New Jersey Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald. The team's had a quick turnaround after a few tough games to start the season and Fitzgerald talked about the culture change that the team has gone through over the last few years. He also hit on the current goaltending tandem and the emergence of the team's young core. Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt are leading the way and are giving the fan base reason to believe that the Devils can compete for years to come.

The guys are back with a fresh Friday edition of The DFO Rundown as they went around the NHL and dug into the biggest storylines from around the NHL. To kick things off, they looked at the team that’s surprisingly being talked about more than anyone: The Arizona Coyotes. It’s not because of anything they’ve done on the ice but instead how things are looking off the ice as they get set to play their first game on the ASU campus.
From there, they hit on a bunch of other teams. The Bruins are looking like a juggernaut early in the season, the Flyers are leading the Metro Division, the Canucks finally slid into the win column, and the New Jersey Devils are starting to find their groove after a slow start.
To wrap up today’s episode, they brought in Tyler Yaremchuk for a new edition of Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash. Tyler asked them about the futures of the Kraken and Canucks, Sorokin’s Vezina chances, and the percentage chance that McDavid wins the Rocket Richard.

Last week, it was all about early season overreactions. Now some of those early season concerns in some markets are becoming more and more legitimate. In no city is that more true than Vancouver, where the Canucks went another week without getting a victory and things are fully off the rails. Frank and Jason discussed the comments from Bo Horvat, Jim Rutherford, and Bruce Boudreau. Can things get better in Vancouver or do they need to make some serious changes?
They also talked about Sidney Crosby’s dominant start to the season and they debated where he could finish in the all-time scoring race. Is Crosby the kind of player who could be productive into his 40’s?
Their big guest today was Dallas Star’s General Manager Jim Nill. His team is off to a flying start as one of the few teams remaining who hasn’t lost a game in regulation time. It was a busy summer though as Nill not only had to find a new coaching staff, he also made some big splashes in free agency and he had to lock up a few pieces of the teams core. Jim talked about building this version of the Dallas Stars, the transition from the Benn/Seguin core to the Heiskanen/Robertson core, and his career as an executive in the NHL.

It’s early in the season, but plenty of great storylines are emerging. The Buffalo Sabres are surprising the league. The team is being driven by Rasmus Dahlin, who made history over the last week, and Eric Comrie's hot streak. There are some rookies who are playing well too. The Canadiens have a pair that are making headlines for completely different reasons. Jason and Frank discussed talked about that and debated whether or not its best for players like Juraj Slafkovsky in Montreal and Shane Wright in Seattle to spend the entire season in the NHL.
From there, they talked about the news that the salary cap could go up as much as $4.5 million this summer. Frank explained how that could happen and Jason shared a few teams that would really benefit from this happening.
To wrap things up, Tyler Yaremchuk joined the guys for Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash. He asked them about some potential 40-goal scorers and he shared who the most profitable team in the league has been from a betting perspective so far this season.

Jason and Frank are back with a Monday episode of the podcast and today, they focused on the world of goaltending as Kevin Woodley from InGoal Magazine joined the show to discuss a handful of topics. To start things off, Woodley broke down how Matt Murray looked between the pipes for the Toronto Maple Leafs and shared his thoughts on if there's any reason to think he can go back to being a true number one once he's healthy. He also talked about a pair of young netminders in Jake Oettinger and Carter Hart and what he's seeing from them early in the 2022-23 campaign. To wrap things up, he gave us his sleeper Vezina candidate in Rapid Fire.
Before they got to Kevin, Jason and Frank talked about the first week of the NHL's regular season. The Canucks are struggling out of the gates, the Flyers are surprisingly 2-0, the Golden Knights might be better than we thought, and the Battle of Alberta was thrilling on Saturday night. We’ve also already seen a few players go down with some long-term injuries, most notably Patrik Laine in Columbus. Could this be enough to sink their season already? Frank also gave us some insight into a situation that’s unfolding between the NHLPA and the Arizona Coyotes.

Today on The DFO Rundown, Frank and Jason wrapped up their season preview podcasts with a look at the Pacific Division. They were joined by Calgary Flames forward Jonathan Huberdeau to kick things off.
With Huberdeau, they talked about his summer, his first few months in Calgary, and what his mindset is ahead of the 2022-23 NHL campaign. The Flames are a team with Stanley Cup aspirations and Huberdeau will be leaned on as one of their key players.
Outside of that, they also talked about a pair of young players in Matt Barzal and Jason Robertson that each got new contracts in the last week. Did either get overpaid? The guys debated it.
They also then dug into the rest of the Pacific Division. Frank has a spicy take about who he thinks will win the division this season while Gregor thinks that three teams could hit the 100-point mark. There’s no bigger question mark than the Vegas Golden Knights as well, they talked about what needs to happen for things to go right in Vegas this season.

We are just under a week away from real, regular-season NHL hockey! With the season just around the corner, Frank and Jason continued their season previews today by taking a deep look at the Metro. They started things off by welcoming in Carolina Hurricanes Head Coach Rod Brind'Amour. Rod talked about the busy summer the team's front office had and how he feels about the new mix of guys they added over the last few months. His mentality is simple: Stanley Cup or bust and he explained why the group they have is good enough to go all the way. We also talked to him about his gym routine and he told us about the absolutely stacked youth team that he coaches.
After the chat with Rod, the guys got into every other team in the division. Last year there was a 16-point gap between fourth and fifth in the division but there's no denying that things will be tighter this season. Could a team that missed the post season last year squeak in this time around? Frank and Jason gave their takes on that and more in our full Metropolitan Division preview. Of course, Tyler Yaremchuk also popped in for a new edition of 'Fill in the Blank' delivered by DoorDash.

Today on The DFO Rundown, Frank and Jason continued their division preview series by taking a look at the Atlantic Division. They started by digging into a pair of Canadian teams in Montreal and Ottawa who are both coming into this season looking to begin new eras. Will they both improve from last year? Frank and Jason discussed that. To preview the Detroit Red Wings, the guys were joined by the team's new Head Coach, Derek Lalonde. His journey to becoming an NHL bench boss has been remarkable and he shared some stories on the pod. He also talked about the mindset of the Red Wings as they look to push for a playoff spot after a busy summer.
After chatting with Lalonde, Frank and Jason debated which team in the Atlantic has the most upside this year when it comes to making a jump into the playoffs. They also dug into the four teams that made the playoffs in this division last season and talked about which one is most in danger of missing the postseason in 2022-23. With just a few weeks to go until the regular season gets started, we began our yearly division preview series and it only made sense to start with the division that features the reigning Stanley Cup Champions. We did a deep dive on the Avs and were joined by their new General Manager Chris MacFarland. He talked about inking Nathan MacKinnon to a record-setting contract extension, his journey to becoming a GM, and how the rest of the Avs roster is looking after a short summer.
Jason and Frank also gave their thoughts on every other team in the Central Division. There are two clear 'have-nots' with the Blackhawks and Coyotes both clearly planning to 'suck hard for Bedard' as Frank would say. There are some intriguing teams in the middle of this division though and perhaps no one has more on the line than the Winnipeg Jets, who had quite a bit of off-ice drama over the last few months. Fans of the Dallas Stars are also holding their breath as Jason Robertson still doesn't have a contract. Frank gave us the latest on that as well.
Tyler Yaremchuk also stopped by for a new edition of 'Fill in the Blank' delivered by DoorDash.

Frank and Jason, join us again for another episode of the DFO Rundown! With the regular season right around the corner, Nathan Mackinnon contract extension talks are heating up. We break down the ideal term and salary for MacKinnon and the Avalanche organization.
From there, we asked the question "Huberdeau or Gaudreau" in our One or the Other segment. With both forwards transitioning to new teams following this past off-season, we questioned which elite player would you rather have over the next five seasons. Frank Seravalli previews his upcoming story for Daily Faceoff, which places NHL players in specific categories and, most notably, what players are defined as franchise players.
Pre-season playoff predictions are in discussion on the DFO Rundown as Jason Gregor states why the Vancouver Canucks will clinch their spot in the playoffs for the upcoming season and which player will be the focal point in helping them reach their first playoff appearance since 2020. Is Ryan O’Reilly going to be able to cash in for this upcoming free agency? At 31 years old, Frank and Jason explain why age might not be a factor once his contract expires following a seven-year deal signed back in 2016-17.

He talked about being a veteran on a team that's heading into a season that most view as a transition year. He also talked about his career, which has featured many ups and downs. He was traded before ever playing an NHL game and by the time he had played 300 NHL games he had already been traded a total of three times. He talked about life on the move and whether or not it gets easier to stomach being traded. He also touched on his two Stanley Cup runs with the Penguins and his favourite memories from those.

Today on The DFO Rundown, Jason and Frank were joined by former NHL tough guy Shawn Thornton. On the ice, he was known for dropping the mitts but in his post-career life, he’s actually turned to the business side of the sport as he’s now the Chief Revenue Officer of the Florida Panthers. He spoke about that role, some of his more memorable moments on the ice during his career, and also the book he wrote about his life. His path from being a steel worker to a two-time Stanley Cup Champion is quite remarkable.
Before the interview with Thornton, the duo broke down some of the recent news that we’ve gotten from the last seven days around the NHL. From the Golden Knights adding Phil The Thrill and shoring up their goaltending to the big extension that the Buffalo Sabres gave to Tage Thompson, there was plenty to get to on the pod. Jason and Frank were reunited today on the pod as Frank returned from his summer holiday in Italy. He started the show by talking about his time there, and the food he ate. He also gave some travel tips for those thinking of going. It was a relaxed episode of the pod as they really didn't get into much hockey talk for the first five minutes but hey, it's August.
When they did get to the hockey talk, they started with what's going on in Calgary as GM Brad Treliving made another huge splash last week landing start free agent Nazem Kadri. Are the Flames now back to being the team to beat in the Pacific? Or is it the Oilers' division to lose? Frank and Jason debated that. From there, they hit on the Canes getting a bargain deal done with Paul Stastny, the situation in Vegas, and the Islanders not doing anything this summer after missing the playoffs in 2021-22.
They also brought in Tyler Yaremchuk for Fill in The Blank delivered by DoorDash. He asked them about some remaining free agents, which rookies they're excited to watch next season and their all-time favourite arena names.

Our summer interview series continued today as Frank Seravalli had a chance to catch up with Per Mars of Marsblade. The former NHL Draft Pick started up the company and changed the game when it comes to offseason training and roller blades. He's now getting into the skate blade business and talked about that new venture and also how his business has grown so rapidly.
Before we got to that interview, Jason Gregor talked about the latest surrounding Nazem Kadri and whether or not he'll eventually sign with the New York Islanders. He also hit on the number of Achilles injuries that we're seeing this summer around the NHL this summer as players get ready for the start of the season. We continued our August interview series by catching up with Panthers GM Bill Zito. Some would say that he's been the busiest man in hockey this summer as he hired Paul Maurice, filled out the edges of his roster in free agency, oh, and he also happened to orchestrate one of the biggest trades of the salary cap era. He broke down how the mega-deal between the Panthers and Flames went down and why he's excited to welcome Matt Tkachuk to his organization. He also spoke a little bit about why it made sense to trade away Jonathan Huberdeau, who holds many Panthers franchise records, and Mackenzie Weegar, who many view as a top pairing defenseman.
He also talked about his journey to being a General Manager, his risk tolerance, and how he goes about building what he hopes to be a Stanley Cup champion.

He talked about his decision to sign a one-year deal with the Anaheim Ducks, the family aspect of the decision, and he looked back on his time in Dallas. He also shared some insight into his favourite Swedish foods and his gym routines during rapid fire.
Before they got to the interview with Klingberg, they hit on some other big news including the big deal that went down a few weeks ago between the Calgary Flames and Florida Panthers. They gave their thoughts on what each side gained from the blockbuster deal. They also hit on some moves that haven't quite happened yet. Nazem Kadri still hasn't found a new home but there are some rumblings about where he could end up. Tyler Yaremchuk also hopped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell.

Day one of free agency in the NHL started with a bang as we got a flurry of moves right when the official window opened up at noon eastern time. There were plenty of moves that we saw coming over the last few days but we also got a few absolute stunners. Nothing was a bigger surprise than Johnny Gaudreau choosing to sign with the Columbus Blue Jackets and that's where Jason and Frank started today on the show.
From there, they hit on pretty much every major move that we saw today from the way the goaltending market played out to even some of the big trades that went down in between all the big signings. Some teams came out looking really good while others, like the Vegas Golden Knights, really couldn't find a way to improve their rosters.
They also talked about the big-name UFAs that didn't find new homes today like Nazem Kadri, Ondrej Palat, and John Klingberg. Frank gave us the latest on what the market looks like for those players. To wrap up the show they brought in Tyler for a new edition of Buy or Sell delivered by Door Dash, which sparked a great conversation about the game croquet!

Free Agent week is here in the NHL and things are happening. The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired Matt Murray just minutes before we started recording today's podcast and that's exactly where Jason and Frank started the show. This is a big gamble for the Maple Leafs, who are desperate to build a roster that can go on a playoff run. That wasn't the only big piece of news that we got this evening as the Colorado Avalanche signed Valeri Nichuskin to a monster eight-year deal that carries a cap hit of $6.125 million. It's a wild contract and Frank and Jason talked about whether or not that will age well for the Avs.
From there, they pretty much went around the league and talked about every big-name free agent and trade option on the market. The next 48 hours are going to be hectic. Buckle up.

The Habs made a lot of noise in round one and the crowd was loving it.
They also talked about all the other deals that happened, like DeAngelo to Philly and Georgiev to Colorado, and also some deals that didn't happen like the one involving Matt Murray going to the Sabres and also some offers that Edmonton had for Zack Kassian before sending him to Arizona.

We have a fresh episode of the podcast and for the first time in a long time, Jason and Frank are in the same room to record it! They're both in Montreal for the NHL Draft and sat down today to break down not just the news we've seen from around the league recently, but also some rumours from around the NHL.
They kicked off the show by talking about the first-overall pick and if the Canadiens will step up and take Shane Wright or if they'll stun the hometown crowd and go in a different direction. They ran through the hypothetical of what could happen if Wright doesn't go first and how that could affect the trade value of the second-overall pick.
From there, they got into some of the other big offseason storylines like the goalie market

It's a long weekend both north and south of the border and we have a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown for you to enjoy while you kick back and crack open a cold one. Today on the show, Jason and Frank covered a lot of different offseason topics from around the NHL. They started by discussing the Derek Lalonde hire out in Detroit, which makes a lot of sense. They also talked about some offseason plans for the Jets before getting into San Jose Sharks GM opening.
They also have very differing views on the Kevin Fiala trade, which led to a fascinating debate. Will LA live to regret the extension? Or is this a move that solidifies them as contenders in the Pacific Division? Things got spicy!
Other stories covered include Jesse Puljujarvi in Edmonton, Ryan McDonaugh's future with the Lightning, and Colorado Avalanche GM Joe Sakic's summer plans. Tyler Yaremchuk also had a riveting edition of Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash.

The Colorado Avalanche finally finished off the two-time defending Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning last night and won their first Stanley Cup since 2001. The last time they won it was Joe Sakic who Captained the team and got to raise the trophy first. This time around, it was Sakic who built the team. Frank and Jason talked about their win last night and how well this team was built. They rolled through these Stanley Cup Playoffs and while the celebration will last for a while, Sakic does have his work cut out for him over the next few months as he looks to build a dynasty in Colorado.
They also talked about the upcoming HHOF class that will be announced today, the San Jose Sharks General Manager job, the Johnny Gaudreau situation, and other offseason storylines that they're excited to see playout over the next few months. It will be a busy summer for Hughes and the Habs and it all starts in a few weeks when of course they'll take to the stage at the Bell Centre and make the first overall pick in the NHL Draft. Kent talked about everything that's been going into the big decision that the team will be making, how they'll approach potential trades this summer, and also the future of Carey Price. On a lighter note, Kent's son Jack is a projected first-round pick this year and Kent talked about how he'll balance being a GM and a Dad this July during the Draft.
Frank and Jason also talked about the Paul Maurice hiring in Florida and their offseason plans. Frank broke the news about an extension for Vegas Golden Knights forward Reilly Smith and talked about how they'll manage their complicated salary cap situation. A new episode of The DFO Rundown is here! Jason is out living his best life in Montreal watching F1, but Frank and Tyler were here to break down what we saw in game two of the Stanley Cup Final. The Avalanche are still looking like a juggernaut and Frank has some serious questions about whether or not the Lightning are going to be able to find a way to get back in this series. The talk about Colorado's big win led them into a conversation about just how much Valeri Nichuskin could make in free agency. Tyler also hit Frank with some trade questions in Fill in the Blank delivered by Door Dash.
We also had a conversation with Thomas Sychertz, a former NCAA goaltender who is now leading a brand called 'Lipsweater' which is looking to merge the NFT world and the hockey world. The word NFT can automatically lead people to dismiss the idea, but Thomas explained why 'Lipsweater' is simply here to make being a hockey fan better.

The Stanley Cup Final got off to a flying start as the Avalanche walked away from game one with an overtime victory. Speaking of flying... Jason had a great story about his trip to Montreal that involves a cab driver getting pulled over and being given an insane speeding ticket. Since Jason is in Montreal, there was a natural tie-in to the trade that went down yesterday between the Canadiens and the Vegas Golden Knights. On the surface, that trade might be a little confusing but Frank and Jason broke down why that deal actually makes a lot of sense for both sides.
They also spent some time talking about the goaltending market and which teams are going to be looking to get involved this summer. From free agents to trade targets, there are plenty of intriguing names that could be available this summer. Tyler Yaremchuk also stopped by for another edition of Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash.
To wrap up the episode today, they were joined by former HHOFer Guy Carbonneau. He's teaming up with 3Ice, the new 100 percent 3-on-3 hockey league launching this summer. He talked about getting back behind the bench with the new start-up, how the league works, who's on his team, and how fans can take in the action this summer. It's overtime, all the time and Guy talked about how he'll attack that as a coach.

After winning four straight games against the New York Rangers, the Tampa Bay Lightning are off to their third straight Stanley Cup Final. If they want to win a third straight ring they'll have to beat arguably the toughest Finals opponent they've faced in the Colorado Avalanche. It's lining up to be an incredible series and Frank and Jason started today's podcast by previewing the matchup. They debated how many future Hall of Famers are playing in this Stanley Cup Final and they also drooled over the quality of hockey we will likely see over the next few weeks. It should be a great series and they debated the key matchups that will decide who gets to lift the Cup.
They were joined by former Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Calvert. He talked about his career, the time he spent with the Avs and what makes that group special, and also the new sports management company that he launched. He gave some tremendous insight into what makes players like Makar and MacKinnon tick. He also shared why he loved having Jared Bednar as a Head Coach.

Yes, the playoffs are still going on but Frank and Jason decided to take today's episode to get ready for what could be a wild offseason around the NHL. There are some big names on Franks's trade targets board and that's where they started on the show. Alex Debrincat sits at the top of the list and represents a chance for the Chicago Blackhawks to really kickstart their rebuild. Will they cash in on his value this summer? Or will they wait until the deadline to do it? Frank says it's a matter of when not if the Hawks move on from him,
They also hit on the big decision the Oilers have to make with Evander Kane. Will anyone offer Kane a long-term deal? Both of the guys seemed to think that's unlikely. They also hit on the availability of both John Gibson and Connor Hellebucyck at different points throughout the show.
There are plenty of other teams who will be very interesting to watch. The Minnesota Wild will likely be moving Kevin Fiala, the Vancouver Canucks will need to decide what to do with JT Miller, the Flame's plans hinge on Johnny Gaudreau's decision, and
They also hit on some coaching candidates before getting to Tyler Yaremchuk for Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash.
2:22 - Debrincat and the Blackhawks

We are just over a month away from the NHL Draft and while the Stanley Cup Playoffs are rightfully taking up a lot of the headlines right now, we decided to take this episode to preview the Draft with our very own prospect analyst Chris Peters. The combine just wrapped up and most of the prospects have finished their seasons so lists are starting to be finalized. Chris gave us his thoughts on who could go first overall (hint: he wouldn't take Shane Wright), who have been the big risers and fallers, and also how he views this year's draft class compared to others.
Before the end of the show, they were also joined by projected top ten pick David Jiříček. The defenseman is coming off a strong season with HC Plzeň in Czechia. Frank and Chris asked him about his game, winning a bronze medal at the World Championships, and whether or not he thinks he's ready to jump into the NHL.

A new episode of The DFO Rundown is here to take you into the weekend. Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli started off today's podcast by breaking down game two of the Western Conference Final between the Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche. Frank was in Colorado to cover the first two games of the series and gave some insight into what's allowed the Avalanche to dominate the Oilers for long stretches of these games. Jason also gave some insight into what the Oilers need to do differently as the series shifts back to Edmonton.
They were also joined by the play-by-play voice of the Tampa Bay Lightning Dave Randorf to talk about the start of the Eastern Conference Final. The Rangers won game one in convincing fashion but if any team can come back from a tough defeat, it's the Lightning. Dave, or should we say 'Jeff Thomas', talked about their playoff run and also how he got into broadcasting. He shared some great stories about his career in sports and his brief time as a wedding DJ.
They wrapped up today's episode with a fresh edition on 'Buy or Sell' delivered by Door Dash where Tyler sparked up a big conversation about breakfast foods.

The Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche are set to square off in the Western Conference Finals starting on Tuesday night. It's expected to be a fast-paced, high-flying series featuring some of the biggest stars in the game. Frank and Jason gave their thoughts on how this series could play out and the key matchups for either side. Can Mike Smith outperform Darcy Kuemper? Can Cale Makar keep up with Connor McDavid? Which #29 will be more dominant? They answered all of those questions and talked about some other under-the-radar players who could make big impacts on this series.
Before that, they also looked at tonight's game seven matchup between the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers. The home team has won every game in this series, will that trend continue tonight at PNC Arena?
To wrap up the episode, they welcomed in Tyler Yaremchuk for a fresh edition of Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash. Tyler asked them about the GM of the Year Award, which got Frank very fired up. Well, the Battle of Alberta certainly lived up to the hype. Edmonton and Calgary battled it out for five games with each one being wildly entertaining with plenty of scoring, lots of lead changes, and some very memorable moments. In the end, it was Connor McDavid who was the hero in the clinching game for the Oilers. Frank and Jason started the podcast by recapping the BOA and talking about what impressed them with the Oilers series win. They also hit on the New York vs Carolina series. Can the Hurricanes finally win a game on the road and wrap up the series?
Their guest today was ESPN analyst Ray Ferraro. Ray talked about the maturity that the Oilers showed by consistently over-coming deficits in their series. He also hit on the Hurricanes vs Rangers series, which he's been between the benches for. The Canes can't be beaten at home but can't find a way to win on the road. Ray gave us some insight into that trend.
To wrap up the episode, Frank and Jason talked about the Flame's season being over and what could be coming next for players like Johnny Gaudreau and Matt Tkachuk. They also brought in Tyler Yaremchuk for a fresh round of Fill in the Blank delivered by DoorDash!

We have wrapped up another wild weekend of playoff hockey! Jason and Frank broke it all down today on a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown! They started the podcast by talking about the fact that the Florida Panthers are staring down the barrel of a potential sweep at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning. The two-time defending Stanley Cup Champions are absolutely rolling right now and the Panthers just aren't even close to their level.
They hit on the other three playoff series as well. The Rangers and Hurricanes series has been a little bit of a snooze-fest, according to Jason's son, and it's hard to argue with that. The Avs have found a way to go up 2-1 in their series vs St. Louis despite the fact that both Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon have been quieter than we expected. Of course, the big story from game three was the Nazem Kadri incident. Frank and Jason each gave their take on the play and the unfortunate aftermath of it.
And finally, they talked about the Battle of Alberta! The Oilers are coming off an incredible game three victory and now lead the series 2-1. McDavid is on another level right now as well and it just looks like the Flames don't have an answer for the Oiler's high-octane top line.
To wrap up the episode, Tyler Yaremchuk hopped in for a new episode of Buy or Sell that was focused on potential offseason moves!
0:40 - Panthers on the brink of elimination
4:40 - The Rangers/Canes series
9:59 - Avs/Blues and the Kadri play

A new episode of The DFO Rundown is here to take you into the weekend! Frank and Jason are both out in Calgary to cover the Battle of Alberta and they kicked off the podcast by talking about the wildly entertaining series opener that we saw on Wednesday. They outlined what both teams need to do in order to clean up their games. The Oilers are very banged up right now with key players like Leon Draisaitl and Darnell Nurse clearly labouring. That could derail things for the Oilers. The Flames scored nine goals in game one but as the guys discussed, that performance won't sit well with Darryl Sutter. They also hit on the Panthers being down 2-0 to the Tampa Bay Lightning after two games in Florida. They also welcomed in Tyler Yaremchuk for a new edition of 'Fill in the Blank'!
Their guest today was Craig MacTavish. As a former Oilers player, Head Coach, and GM, he has plenty of great stories when it comes to the Battle of Alberta. He also gave us some insight into what allowed the Flames to look so good and what the Oilers will need to do in order to bounce back in game two. He also shared a tremendous story about the time he played a round with the greatest golfer ever!

From there, they looked at each upcoming series and gave their predictions for the next round of the playoffs. They each have at least one underdog going to the Conference Final and multiple series going the distance!

WHAT A NIGHT OF PLAYOFF ACTION! Jason and Frank stayed up late to recap what we saw from around the league tonight. The Leafs and Lightning had an OT thriller, the Oilers hung on to force seven vs the Kings, the Bruins and Canes will also play one more game, and the Blues bounced the wild! MADNESS!
They gave their picks for game seven and also talked about what we'll see on Friday night as a wild first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs continues.
In the back half of the show, they were joined by Arizona Coyote GM Bill Armstrong. He was quickly dubbed the best-dressed guest in the history of the show. He talked about the future of the Coyotes, the comments made by Jakob Chychrun at the end of the season, and also how he got to where he was. He shared stories of his come up through hockey and also gave a great pitch as to why players want to play in Arizona!

Also, Frank and Jason ran through the games that happened over the weekend on the show.
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers missed the opportunity to go 3-1 in their series. After Bruce Cassidy reunited the Perfection Line, the Boston Bruins are back on level terms with the Carolina Hurricanes. And the Florida Panthers' goalscoring woes continued in game three.
Jason and Frank talked in depth about those three series and the other five that played out over the weekend.
They also questioned how almost every series is so close, yet, we have seen endless blowouts night after night.
Midway through the show, Liam Horrobin filled in for Tyler Yaremchuk to host Fill In The Blank, presented by DoorDash.
You can hear all of that and more on episode 127 of The DFO Rundown with Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli.

Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli kick off the week by recapping all the big stories from a wild weekend in the NHL, and there was a lot to get to.
They started the pod by giving their takes on the Flyers' decision to healthy scratch Keith Yandle and end his NHL-record iron man streak. Was it fair or foul of the team to make that move?
There was also the incident to start the weekend in a game between the Coyotes and Ducks. While Trevor Zegras should have been the biggest story of that game after scoring another insane lacrosse-style goal, it was instead Jay Beagle beating up Troy Terry that ended up being the biggest headline. Was this overblown? Or should Beagle have been suspended?
They also talked about Leon Draisaitl hitting 50-goals and joining the 50-50-100 club, which Gregor pointed out is a very exclusive group. They also brought in Tyler Yaremchuk for Buy or Sell!

Episode 116 of The DFO Rundown with Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli is here. Frank is back from his trip to Florida for the NHL General Manager meetings and ready to fill you all in.
Before that, we are in crunch time in the NHL with less than a month to play. The Western Conference is tight, with nine teams still in the running for the postseason. Only eight teams can make it, so who the team that's going to miss out is?
They also dive into the NHL awards and who should be nominees, especially the Jack Adams. There are plenty of candidates for that award, like Todd McLellan, Andrew Brunette, and even Jared Bednar from the Avalanche, to name a few. However, Frank thinks there's one clear winner.
Also, on the show, Frank and Jason were joined by former NHL Marc Methot. Methot played over 600 games in the NHL with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Ottawa Senators and Dallas Stars.
Before they dug into the interview, Methot spoke about Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melynk and his memories of him.
They then spoke about Methot's media career, the future of the Senators, and his time with the London Knights.
You can hear all of that and more on episode 116 of The DFO Rundown.
