Notes from this episode:
5 seasons, 130 episodes and so many incredible nuggets of wisdom gained in between but it's officially time to end That's So Maven. As sad as I am to share this, I also know that the time is right. It's been an amazing journey but all good things must come to an end and for the podcast, the time is now.
So in today's episode I'm getting honest about why I've made this decision (there are many reasons) as well as sharing about some big decisions in 2019 and how they will affect this next decade. No new humans to interview, topics to jump into or new wellness trends to explore.
Just me and the mic and my honest truth.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for tuning in. It's been a wild ride and I'm excited to see what's to come in the future. Onwards and upwards!

Is there anything in life more polarizing than body hair? This is particularly true for women who are often judged for having any ounce of hair on their bodies. What about for men? Why are they revered for their body hair and judged for removing it? Today on the show I'm chatting with Breanne Fahs a professor of women and gender studies at Arizona State University and expert on body hair all about it.
So if you've wondered what the deal is with body hair, is it healthy (spoiler alert: YES!) and why we feel so inclined to remove it, this episode is for you. On today's episode we also discuss:

Episode #83 with Lee Vosburgh from Style Bee
Without question, sustainability is an important and pressing dialogue we all need to be discussing. It's part of the reason you have been seeing more posts about sustainability on THM and in my personal life I've found myself gravitating towards resources that are discussing it. One of the most relatable and empowering of these resources is The Good Trade, a website founded by AmyAnn Cadwell, a leading voice in the sustainability movement, an entrepreneur and social impact angel investor. She wears many hats, but educating the world on how to make more sustainable choices is the primary of them.

What is Sugaring Hair Removal? blog post
Medicinal mushrooms?! I know what you're thinking here...but hang with me! This episode is a juicy one. Over the last several years medicinal mushrooms (mushrooms that have benefits for our bodies...not of the magic variety!) have had a huge resurgence. But these incredible fungi are not new and in fact, are likely older than us. So what's the deal with them and are they really that great? Simple answer: Yes. But for the longer answer tune into today's episode with Jeff Chilton, president of Nammex, author of The Mushroom Cultivator and mushroom grower and researcher for over 40 years is on the show today sharing all of his mushroom wisdom.
This was honestly one of the most interesting conversations I've had this year on the show. Not only are we going deep into how mushrooms are grown, the benefits of different varietals (reishi, lion's mane, cordyceps etc...) but we're also discussing the importance of sourcing and what's really in some of the more popular mushroom products out there. On today's episode we're also discussing:

Chatting with Tiffany Ima was something I had been looking forward to for a long time. Finally getting the chance to sit down and discuss her journey and experiences ended up being even better than I had imagined. Not surprisingly, we have a lot in common. Tiffany's journey has not been direct (is anybody's?!) and has evolved in a messy, beautiful and very public way. Nevertheless, the most important piece is that she showed up. period.

I'm so excited to share today's podcast episode with Taran and Bunny Ghatrora, the co-founders of an incredible company called Blume. I discovered Blume through a mutual friend and fell in love with their concept and how they are changing the game when it comes to period products and self-care. Self-care goes beyond face masks and baths (though I do love me a bath...and face mask!). Self-care is also about accessibility to products for something that 50% of the population experiences...periods.

This episode feels incredibly full circle for me. I remember following Gina Harney's blog all the way back in 2009 while a junior in college. In some ways this feels like the hay day of blogging. I would wake up, grab my coffee and check-in with my healthy living blogs each morning on my google blog reader. The Fitnessista was at the top of this list. 10 years later, Gina is on That's So Maven to chat all about her blogging journey and how the landscape has changed since she first started.

If I had a nickel for every fearful thought I experienced in a day I would RICH. In fact I'd probably be a billionaire. Fear...it's what our mind feeds on - or so we think. Though far more difficult, our minds can feed off love, but this means facing our fear and moving forward anyway. Today on the show I'm chatting with Koya Webb, a holistic health coach and yoga instructor all about facing your fears and how to turn obstacles into seeds of growth.
