Hugh Cassidy was a powerlifting pioneer becoming the sports first super heavyweight world champion in 1971. He could bench 570 lbs. with a two second pause and squat 800 lbs. below parallel without a suit. As a pioneer, there was no template and very little information, if any, to follow. He was a true strength strategist and ironically, many of these strategies are still used today. Listen in while we discuss this unique powerhouse, Hugh Cassidy.

Marty recently began working with a 15-year old named Andrew who he set up on a 12-week periodized strength program consisting of mainly the core four lifts, bench press, overhead press, squat and deadlift. For the most part, this is the same lifting strategy Marty used himself as a teenager in 1964. We also discussed questions and concerns parents may have about pre-pubescent kids and teenagers when it comes to strength training, sports performance and nutrition.

Mark Chaillet was a powerlifting savant. He eventually squatted a below parallel 1,000 lbs in training and 940 in competition. Mark deadlifted 880 weighing 270. He set a dozen world records in the deadlift. He asked for no one’s opinion about training. He had one way of training: period. He trained minimally within each session: three lifts and three lifts only, each done once a week for a single periodized rep. He trained infrequently and he championed the “rested effort.” Mark showed us how little was needed, in terms of training volume, to become massive and strong beyond comprehension. Never has a man done less and gone further.

Jason Henderson, U.S. Navy SEAL Master Chief (retired), honored us today with his first exclusive interview on IRON COMPANY's RAW with Marty Gallagher Podcast (Marty Gallagher, J.P. Brice and Jim Steel). It was a compelling interview from a man who has spent his career in the world of Tier 1 Spec Ops. Among a variety of topics, Hendo touched on the evolution of performance training in the Navy SEALs and how their minimalistic strength training template, as created by IPF world champion Marty Gallagher, was instrumental in keeping himself and his teams in optimal fighting condition. We also spoke at length about his newest project, Four Pillars Collective, where he is beginning to work with police departments and first responders across the US teaching them physical and mental control tactics which will ultimately bolster de-escalation and aid in bridging the gap between law enforcement and the general public.
