Submit ReviewHappy second birthday to us! That's right, this podcast is entering it's terrible two's and in classic toddler fashion it has become incredibly temperamental and impossible to reason with. We encountered some technical difficulties the first time we did this so you are listening to take two (itself not free from tech issues, unfortunately) and we are answering some of you, our listeners, most pressing questions! We are giving you all the mildly interesting details about how we pick a show topic, what we wish we could buy at Trader Joe's, what our favorite episode was and so much more!
The Birthday Gurl
6 apricots, chopped and pitted
1 pint raspberries
1 pint strawberries, sliced
1 ripe mango, peeled and diced
1 lime, sliced
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup ruby red grapefruit juice
1/4 cup elderflower liquor
2 bottles of rosé
In a large pitcher, combine all the fruit and the sugar and muddle well. Add the juice, wine and liquor. Stir and refrigerate for several hours before serving. Serve on ice and top with seltzer if desired.

In this episode we're talking about four different versions of spherical heaven, meatballs. We've made Swedish, ginger meatballs in a coconut broth, veggie packed italian meatballs and meatball banh mis. We are balled out but it was worth it.

Let's taco bout tortillas. We made them, corn and flour varieties. They were good! We also recreated two favorites from a dearly departed favorite taco spot, talked deviled eggs, yet again, made gallons of pico de gallo and reveled in our master frying skillz.
The Pico de Cocktail
Rim a glass with salt (we used habanero salt but kosher or smoked would be great too). Fill glass with ice then add 1.5 oz of tequila, 2 Oz pico de gallo juice and the juice of half a lime. Stir then fill rest of glass with beer.
Fresh Jalapeno Salsa
In a food processor, combine three jalapeno peppers, one clove garlic, ½ cup grape or other small tomatoes, juice from half a lime, a handful of cilantro. Process until finely chopped. Add salt to taste.
Cabbage slaw
Half a cabbage, shredded and salted for several hours, excess water drained
Juice of half a lime
2 scallions, thinly sliced
¼ cup Mexican crema
¼ cup chopped cilantro
Combine everything in a bowl.
Potato Taco Filling
Cook 2 large russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks, in well salted boiling water until fork tender. Drain potatoes, add ½ cup sour cream and 2 tbsp olive oil. Mash well but leave slightly lumpy. Salt to taste.

Hey, we're 50! Episodes, that is. What better way to celebrate this momentous podcast event than with the return of something as thrilling as EGGS. This year we dyed Easter eggs with food stuffs and came up with two new types of deviled eggs. The dying, not so hot. The deviling? EXTREMELY HOT. So hot in fact, we want you to get in on the action! If you are planning to celebrate Egg Sunday this week, invent your own deviled egg and share it with us! Either on Instagram (@lizandalissa) or in our Facebook group, Liz and Alissa Made Me Make It. Devil an egg and we'll send you one of our fabulous enamel pins!
Paas The Gin
In a shaker full of ice, combine 1/2 cup red zinger tea (cooled), 1 egg white, 3 oz gin, the juice of half a lemon, 1 oz simple syrup. Shake until chilled and frothy, about 15 seconds. Pour into two glasses and garnish with a marshmallow Peep.
BLT deviled eggs
1 dozen hard boiled eggs
Slice eggs in half lengthwise and put yolks in a bowl. Mash the yolks and combine with:
Spoon or pipe yolk mixture into egg white halves.
Top with bits of crispy bacon.
Antipasto Deviled Eggs
1 dozen hard boiled eggs
Slice eggs in half lengthwise and put yolks in a bowl. Mash the yolks and combine with:
Spoon or pipe yolk mixture into egg white halves.
Top with shaved parmesan.

Oops, we did it again. We are gluttons for punishment and our abysmal meat pie and Charlotte Royale didn’t do enough to scare us off of attempting more great British baking feats. And this time, we convinced a guest to join us! Kait, co-host of The Worst Bestsellers, took a stab at a star-studded Swiss roll and we made...drumroll please...a wedding cake. I don’t want to give anything away but, I don’t care, WE ALL KICKED ASS WITH THIS ONE. We also discuss further perils of candle making, what not to do with cake scraps (cough, cake pops, cough) and we’ve added a fancy new tool to our podcast pantry.
The Paul’s Cup
Rub the lemon wedge on half of the rim of a glass then dip rim in ginger sugar.
In a cocktail shaker, muddle the cucumber then add ice, Pimms, Cointreau and lemon juice. Shake for 15 seconds then strain into glass.

We’re waxing nostalgic for a time before half the things in our kitchens were covered in paraffin. Why, you ask? Because we made candles! Stupid, barely scented, fifty dollar candles. We never promised you a rose garden (scented candle) and we never promised you we’d actually succeed at half the shit we do for this show! But we can laugh at our failures, right? Or at least you all can! In addition to our adventures with wax, Alissa figured out the recipe for full box Chex mix, Liz’s vision board continues to bring the hits, Liz’s daughter discovered the wonders of self-rising flour and we learn that we are pretty clueless as to the size of an acre.
The Basic B-swax
1.5 cups of strawberry purée (purée strawberries in a blender with a splash of water)
1/4 cup honey simple syrup (equal parts honey and water, heated until honey dissolves)
Juice of one lime
3 oz gin
16 oz ice
1/4 tsp habanero salt
Combine all ingredients in a blender and whiz it up! Makes two drinks.
Full Box Chex Mix
Use a full regular size box each of Wheat Chex, Corn Chex and Rice Chex, about 3 cups pretzel sticks and 3 cups nuts. Ingredients for the “juice” are as follows:
Use instructions from the original recipe to make mix. (But don’t follow the microwave directions, make it in the oven. You’re better than that!)
Shitty candles in the making
Liz's misguided attempt at making bloody mary scented oil

Here's what's happenin' on the ranch: along with special second time guest, Lauren, we made recipes from everyone's favorite city gal turned Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond. We all love some of Ree's recipes and make them regularly. Others, not so much. Join us as we journey through Ree's frontier and make, among other things, escalloped cabbage, the best lasagna ever, and Marlboro Man's favorite sandwich. Listen to find out if these recipes were approved by cowboys, hungry kids, and me, I mean, Ree!

Just like your mom always told you, breakfast really is the most important cocktail of the day. Breakfast foods are maybe some of our most favorite foods so we’re a little shocked that it’s taken so long to actually do this episode. We made congee, shakshuka, grits and yeasted waffles, not to mention the sunniest, most refreshing tequila cocktail you’ve ever had before 10 am.

Pucker up, we picked a bushel of lemons and turned them into absolutely everything we could think of, minus lemonade. Limoncello, lemon cheesecake, Atlantic Beach pie (we know, what?), chicken piccata, and lemon salad. Ooh la la, it was delicious. Liz has also been unable to resist remaking 2 of our 3 fast food copy cats AND she tried (and failed) to duplicate our former macaron glory.
The Sourpuss
Make lemon sugar: finely chop the zest of one lemon and combine with 2 tbsp white sugar.
Rim a champagne coupe or flute with lemon juice and lemon sugar. In the glass, combine 1 tbsp of limoncello, 1 tsp lemon juice and 3 dashes of angostura bitters. Fill glass rest of the way with champagne.
Cheesecake Number 17-Alissa used this recipe but lemon-ed it up by using lemon cookies for the crust, adding a lot of lemon zest to the batter, using limoncello in place of vanilla and topping the whole cheesecake with lemon curd (recipe for that below).
lemon-lemon-cupcakes.html/"> Lemon Cupcakes
Lemon Salad
Slice tomatoes and thinly slice onions. Place in the bottom of a large salad bowl and toss with salt. Let them sit while you prepare the other ingredients.
Chop cucumber and bell pepper and add to the bowl.
Tear lettuce into manageable pieces and add to bowl.
Toss all veg together before dressing.
Drizzle oil over the salad.
Squeeze lemons over salad. I generally end up using 1.5 lemons for a full head of lettuce, but do it to taste. It should be bright and lemony.
Generously salt and very generously pepper the salad and toss everything together. Taste a piece of lettuce. Add more lemon, oil, salt or pepper as needed.

What do you get when you combine a hankering for basic AF chili, a woman with zero chill on Instagram stories and a podcast in constant need for new content? Homemade fast food, of course! We’ve long said that we wanted to make a chicken sandwich that was both delicious AND didn’t infringe upon the rights of others. This episode we were finally inspired to do it. Find out to what success we were able to recreate such fast food classics as “Wendy’s Chili!”, “The Big Mac!” and the chicken sandwich everyone hates to love, you know, it’s Chick-Fil-A.
The "Do You Want Fries With That?"
For two drinks:
1 lemon, juiced
1 lime, juiced
3 oz of tequila
8 oz of Coca Cola
Combine lemon juice, lime juice and tequila. Divide evenly between two ice-filled glasses. Top each glass with 4 oz of coke. Garnish with a slice of lime and a slice of pickle if you’re feeling awesome.
