There is an inherent disconnect between people’s online personas and who they are in real life, creating a divide between their IRL (in real life) and URL (online) identities. The way we represent ourselves online-through curation and manipulation-creates a discrepancy between the expectations we have of ourselves and our actual experiences, leading to feelings of inadequacy and making it difficult to perceive and connect to others in real life. During my conversation with Law Roach, he said when he started out, he didn’t know what he was doing but you have to "fake it till you make it," which led me to reflect on how many people do this. But it is easier said than done, thanks to a little thing called Imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is a phenomenon in which individuals doubt their abilities and believe they are unworthy of their accomplishments and the admiration they receive. As someone who has experienced imposter syndrome, whether it be in my modeling or writing, I often feel like I am going to be exposed as a fraud.
