Submit ReviewDear Anthony,
Starting Building Men together was one of the best decisions of my life. That studio became our sanctuary—a place where we laid down more than just words into a mic. We shared pieces of ourselves, woven together with laughter, late-night talks, and the kind of moments most people only dream of having with their brothers. That last episode we recorded, In Service of Others, keeps playing in my mind. You were everything you spoke about there—a coach, a friend, a man who simply wanted to make the world better. And I’d give anything for one more session of “bullshitting” in person, just you and me, like always.
You were my rock, but even more than that, you were this incredible listener. You’d look at someone, and it felt like you could see right into their soul. You carried everyone’s burdens with that quiet strength, always putting others first. You laughed off the small stuff and showed up for the big moments without a second thought. And maybe that’s what makes losing you so unbearable—like there’s a hole in the world that only you could fill.
Thinking back, I can’t help but laugh at the way you lit up every room you walked into. You had this natural charm, this magnetic energy that made people want to be near you, learn from you, and laugh with you. And your rituals? Those barefoot sunrise walks, hauling spring water, and that relentless dedication to health—you were truly one of a kind. And then, of course, there was your humor. Your ridiculous accents, the pranks, the belly laughs —it all just made you the funniest, most genuine person I knew.
I know life wasn’t always easy for you. I know you fought battles only you understood, yet you kept pushing through every day. Every sunrise, every gym rep, every stranger you talked to—you lived with such fierce intention. And that’s what I’ll carry forward, Ant. Your fight is part of me now.Since you’ve been gone, I’ve watched the sun rise every morning. It’s my way of staying connected to you, holding onto that part of you that always sought the light, even when things were dark. It’s not easy, but it’s where I find you. The sunrise reminds me that, like the sun itself, your impact shines on, even in the hardest moments.
I’m doing my best to live with that same purpose you carried. To stay in the fight, just like you did. Your story doesn’t end here. It lives on in every laugh, every memory, in this podcast, and in every person lucky enough to know you.
Thank you, brother—for the friendship, the guidance, the laughter, and the lessons in the struggle. I’ll keep you close, always. Rest easy, Ant. We’ve got it from here.I love you brother….with all my heart,Dennis

Alright, so picture this—I'm sitting here with my buddy, Eric Sardina, and we're diving deep into some real talk on his podcast, Return to Authenticity. Now, Eric's hit a major milestone, episode 100, and I'm honored to be a part of it. This is more than just another chat; it's a celebration of the work we've both been doing to uplift young men, to really get them to understand what it means to be a man in today's world.
As you know, I started out in education, right there in New Jersey, and let me tell you, it's been a wild ride transitioning from that world into mentorship and podcasting. It's not just about talking the talk; it's about walking the walk, showing up for these young guys, and helping them navigate through life's mess.
Now, in this episode, Eric and I dig into some pretty deep stuff. We talk about the influence of the Enlifted coaching program—how it’s shaped both of us in our own journeys—and how community is a game changer for personal growth. We’re not just throwing around buzzwords here; we’re talking real, actionable steps.
One of the most powerful parts of our conversation is about Joe Ehrman, the former Baltimore Colt who’s on a mission to redefine masculinity. Joe’s not afraid to challenge those old-school stereotypes, and neither are we. We get into why phrases like "be a man" can be so damaging and how important it is to foster real, genuine relationships. This isn’t just about surface-level stuff; it’s about teaching boys the healthy habits and communication skills they need to thrive.
We also break down the multi-tiered mentorship program I’ve been working on—something I’m really proud of. It’s not a one-size-fits-all approach; we’ve tailored it to fit young men from all sorts of backgrounds, and the results have been incredible. We’re talking about real change, in real lives.
And listen, if you’re a parent, especially navigating the chaos of the digital age, this episode is for you. Eric and I share some practical strategies for reducing phone usage, having those tough conversations about things like pornography, and really connecting with your kids on a deeper level. We even get into the importance of morning routines and how something as simple as reconnecting with old friends can totally shift your mindset.
So, to everyone listening, whether you’re here for the first time or you’ve been with us from the beginning, thank you. Eric’s created something special with Return to Authenticity, and I’m stoked to have this conversation released on Building Men as well.
Get in Touch with Eric: https://www.ericsardina.com/
Make sure to subscribe, leave a review, and hit us up on social media with your thoughts. We’re all in this together, trying to build a better, more authentic world for the next generation.
Cheers to 100 episodes and to many more impactful conversations!

This time I’ve got the badass Aaron Jannetti back on the show. This guy’s not just a self-defense guru; he’s a total legend when it comes to breaking down the craziness we see in those old-school action flicks we all love. You know, the Rambo and Commando kind of stuff. In this episode, we’re going deep into those iconic scenes, and Aaron’s here to set the record straight on what’s real and what’s pure Hollywood fantasy. Spoiler alert: most of it’s the latter, but damn, it’s fun to talk about.
We’re not just geeking out over movies, though. Aaron takes us on a wild ride through a hypothetical mission, laying out his survival kit like it’s the last thing standing between us and total chaos. And let me tell you, this dude’s got style—he’s out there in boots, chubbies, and an Aloha shirt, making sure we’re all ready to roll with the punches, all while keeping a smile on our faces.
Then, we shift gears and dive into something that’s probably been on every guy’s mind at some point—fashion. Yep, we’re talking about the evolution from Hurley board shorts to those classic Chubbies. But it’s not just about clothes; it’s about how your style reflects who you are and how you’re evolving as a person. And we don’t stop there. Aaron and I get into some serious book talk, sharing our top picks for tactical, self-defense, and personal growth reads. We’re dropping names like Jordan Peterson and Jocko Willink, so you know it’s legit.
As we move into the latter part of the episode, we’re switching the focus to something close to home—homeschooling and parenting. Aaron opens up about the real challenges of keeping kids emotionally balanced and physically active in today’s world. He’s got some killer strategies for integrating play and learning, and we chat about the innovative homeschooling programs that are really making a difference out there.
Of course, we can’t wrap up without talking about Aaron’s journey—his work at Endeavor Defense and Fitness, his book How to Survive an Active Killer, and his global mission to teach Knife Control Concepts. The guy’s been around, and he’s dropping wisdom bombs left and right, especially on the importance of saying “no” to keep your priorities in check. If you’re serious about leveling up in life, you’re gonna want to take notes on this one.
So, what are you waiting for? Tune in and catch all this action-packed goodness. Whether you’re into classic action movies, serious about self-defense, or just looking for some fresh homeschooling ideas, this episode’s got you covered.
And hey, don’t forget to hit that subscribe button and leave us a review. It’s your way of letting us know you dig what we’re doing and want more of it. Catch you on the next one!

Part 1 of 2 with THE LEGEND - Johnny Elsasser. As a long time fan of Johnny's podcast - The Art of Masculinity, it was an honor to have the opportunity to interview him.
The story begins with not knowing. Johnny's parents divorced when he was about 14 and he didn’t really care to be around either. At one point Johnny found myself living in a tent in his aunt and uncle’s backyard. He came to the end of high school and realized he did nothing to set himself up for the future nor did he even know where to go. So, he ended up in the one place he never could of imagined…the U.S. Army recruiting office.
This was 2004, early in the Iraq war and Johnny was a tall, skinny kid, in great shape from soccer, but no military pedigree whatsoever. He chose to create a future in the U.S. Army and in a fortuitous way, ended up in the elite 2nd Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment. Johnny found a purpose here and found something bigger than himself. As he excelled at being in special operations the time came when he left to work as a contractor protecting the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq. Johnny did this for 5 years after the military and in this effort, his purpose and life remained similar as the paramilitary role held similarities to full time military. However, when he left to be part of normal society, the transition was extremely arduous.
Johnny finally began to listen, to read, to understand that he hadn’t defined myself as a man in today’s world. He hadn’t taken inventory and created the man he wanted to be and therefore, he could never show up with the power and confidence he had in Battalion.
Johnny realized that if he was struggling with this, not only are his brothers but also many men in this world who were taught they couldn’t expose their vulnerability for fear of being looked at as less than. Johnny took that moment to decide that he needed to help men, he needed to show his background and say that men of all backgrounds have the ability to struggle and that we are not alone. By banding together, learning from one another, and embracing our individual authenticity is the way that we become our best version and we influence the next generation of a healthy and strong masculinity for years to come.

This episode is as raw and as real as it gets on the Building Men Podcast. Gareth Shanthikumar shares his story of his upbringing in Australia, family dynamics, his battle with depression and how one of his closest relatives decision to commit suicide shook his foundation and changed his life.
Gareth cofounded MAN UP in 2019 on the back of his own mental health loved experience. He aims to change the phrase ‘man up’ to mean something positive; to live authentically from one’s heart, embrace vulnerability and hold one another accountable to stand up for what’s right. Gareth is also a personal trainer & founder of EmPowered - through these medians he looks to give people the tools to develop their physical & emotional well-being.

It was an honor to have a conversation with Rob Kenney - the creator of "Dad, How Do I?" Rob shares how after his father left the home during his adolescence, he needed to figure out many things for himself (that his dad should have taught him). Rob used his experiences to create a hugely successful social media presence, including millions of subscribers to his YouTube channel. If you have kids, follow along with what Rob has created...and encourage them to do the same.

This was an interesting conversation with a man who grew up with no male role model in his life and studied the sociological impacts of masculine role models has on young men. He went through several ups and downs in his life (including being homeless for several months) on his way to finding his voice through poetry.
Damian White is a writer from Columbus, OH. He is the author of the poetry book, I Made A Place For You, which is his debut collection. After battling two bouts of homelessness, he channeled those experiences into poetry as a way to heal a fractured identity.

This was such a cool conversation with a great man. Jason and I talk about the 100 flip trip, overcoming challenges as a parent of a teenager, how to manage time effectively, ultradium rhythms and how one becomes a lama.
Jason Henkel is a personal and organizational productivity expert known for his highly practical brain-based approach to multiplying meaningful output in the same number of hours worked both in work and in personal life. When asked what he does, his default answer is: “I deliver calm, deliberate and authentic productivity”. He has been called by US Navy SEAL Commander Mark McGinnis ‘The Productivity Whisperer’ and personally advises that he has the answer to finally ending the reign of the email monster and the burnout culture that has scorched the earth for long enough. Having trained executive leadership teams and organizations around the world, he’s most interested in helping people thrive in their highest priorities while finding and permanently maintaining the feeling of balance and well-being throughout the journey.

What an absolute blast talking with two of the most amazing human beings I have met during the Building Men Podcast Journey. I talk with Akshay Nanavati and Kevin Demmons about intentional discomfort, fear, overcoming adversity, how the brain works...and shrikage.
Akshay Nanavati (Building Men Podcast Episode 116) has overcome drug addiction, PTSD from fighting the war in Iraq with the Marines (where one of his jobs was to walk in front of vehicles to find bombs), depression and alcoholism that pushed him to the brink of suicide. Since then he has built a global business, run ultramarathons like a 24 hour run and a 50 miler around a cul-de-sac, become 1 of only 26 people to ski up the Axel Heiberg Glacier in Antarctica where he got frostbite on 3 fingers, conducted humanitarian work in post-conflict zones, spent 7 days in darkness, silence and isolation, and explored the most hostile environments on the planet, from mountains to caves to polar icecaps.
Combining his life experience with years of research in science and spirituality, he wrote the book “Fearvana: The Revolutionary Science of How to Turn Fear Into Health, Wealth and Happiness." About the book, the Dalai Lama said “Fearvana inspires us to look beyond our own agonizing experiences and find the positive side of our lives.” All the profits from the book are going toward charity.
The creator of the movement "Scarred and Unbeaten", Kevin Demmons (Building Men Podcast Episode 131) shares stories of his past, dealing with horrific abusive situations during his childhood, his experience in the military and how finding strength in his pain has transformed his life. We start the process of creating an organization called: The Shrinkage Awareness Foundation. Kevin started Scarred and Unbeaten because there is not enough discussion about post traumatic GROWTH! According to Kevin, scars both physical and mental, are constant reminders of just how strong and resilient we truly are.

I laughed and learned a lot talking with meteorologist, television personality and podcast host, Ted Phaeton. We talk about the science behind what he does, how he inspires "modern men" and throw in a few obligatory Ron Burgundy jokes along the way.
Ted Phaeton is a husband, son, and dog dad. He’s the Morning Meteorologist at Queen City News in Charlotte, NC. (Meaning, he wakes up VERY early!) Ted is also a member of the National Weather Association and received his NWA Television/Radio Seal of Approval in December of 2016, making him a certified meteorologist with the national organization. As the founder of The Modern Man, a men's networking & empowerment group, Ted works to connect men in pursuit of their potential by helping them build meaningful relationships and solve male isolation. #Letsgrow

We love this guy. Eric Sardina is a long time listener and supporter of the Building Men Podcast, he is an Enlifted Coach, a fellow podcaster and a great dude. Anthony and I talk with Eric about the Spartan Race, staying away from playgrounds, stupid stuff we did as kids and how Eric is inspiring others with his return to an authentic life.
Eric Sardina worked in corporate America for 30 years in sales and marketing in companies ranging in size from start-up to the Fortune 500. After he turned 50, he started to wonder if he was called to something else, if his talents were being best utilized and if he was doing what he was put on the Earth to do. Through several years of work with his own coach, he determined to pursue a new career coaching others who are at a crossroads trying to live more authentic lives. Eric is also a public speaker where he often speaks to business audiences on the power found at the crossroads of mindset, physiology, spirituality and doing hard things to live your best life, the life you were born to live. This man is an absolute savage! I have a conversation with Nathan Kohlerman about his upbringing, experiences in a gang, his service in the military, overcoming a traumatic injury and rites of passage for young men (including fumbling with bra straps). Nathan is a great dude doing important work.
After being introduced to gang culture and battling multiple addictions at a young age, Nathan was surely on a path of self-destruction that would only lead to death. Connecting with Adrain and Vince Del Monte on the Building Men Podcast was such a cool experience. These brothers have created an entire movement geared toward helping men become the best versions of themselves. We chop it up about their relationship, lessons they learned from the father, being brutally honest with ourselves...and breakdancing injuries.
Vince has done this in the fitness industry over the past 20 years. He began to impact others as the “Skinny Guy Savior” where he has transformed thousands of people from skinny and scrawny to strong and secure. His No Nonsense Muscle Building system has given confidence and motivation to people all over the world. Over the past seven years, Vince has transferred his expertise and experience to helping hundreds of fitness coaches build their own online businesses. He is a guru of fitness, marketing and lifestyle and his actions have changed countless lives.
Adrian has also spent his life mentoring and bringing out the best in others. For the past fifteen years, Adrian has established himself as an award winning teacher, department head, podcaster and high school leadership mentor to thousands of students and hundreds of teachers. Adrian is the Executive Director of Hopes Rise, a charity in Toronto that serves marginalized and underprivileged children in low income neighborhoods. Adrian’s strategies for establishing healthy family rhythms have been used in dozens of homes with remarkable success.
Men of Bedrock brings together both Vince and Adrian’s expertise. Together, they have created a program that will help other men give their lives to others. Men of Bedrock become leaders in their community, modeling service, humility and courageous vulnerability.

In this episode, Anthony and I chop it up with an absolute SAVAGE dude - Aram Grigorian. We do our best Christopher Walken impersonation, talk about relationship dynamics and the fitness industry.
A former finance douche and party boy, Aram came to the hard realization that it wasn't the things in his life that drove him, but the impact that he made on the lives of others in a positive way. He started personal training people after being laid off from his finance job, and 10 years later, has coached hundreds of clients with his belief system of food quality/quantity, training intensity/frequency and rest/recovery. He provides food for thought daily on his Instagram page @4weeks2thebeach and he gets clients to release themselves of their limiting beliefs by changing perspective and helping folks see that there are solutions to everything if you want to find them.

It was a blast talking to Kaleb Fossum - a man with a great head of hair who defied the odds and overcame the obstacles in his path on his way to playing football at the division one level. He has adopted a "walk on mentality" and will never miss an opportunity to take the stairs in life.
Kaleb is here to liberate the potential of his mind, body, & soul. He was a former Division 1 two sport athlete. He walked on at Washington State University as a member of the football team where he lied his way onto the field. He finished his career at the University of Nevada, Reno where he earned a scholarship, became captain of the football team, & a member of the Mountain West Championship baseball program. Battling many different types of adversity in his sports journey, Kaleb has dedicated him self to relentless curiosity in order to become the best version of himself. His vision is to become a renaissance man, some one who cannot be labeled, put in a box or identified, his sole purpose is to positively impact the world.”

What a cool experience, sitting next to my son Denny as my cohost, interviewing a man who wrote a book about reconnecting with his father! I am grateful for every minute I spend with my son, but having him next to me during a podcast is a very impactful experience. In this episode we speak with military veteran and author, Mike Liguori about his experience in the marines, his battle with depression and how reconnecting with his father changed his life.
After being on the brink of suicide induced by years of PTSD from fighting in Iraq with the Marines, a series of supernatural interventions saved Mike Liguori’s life. His military service and deployments to a war zone were not by accident.
He had engaged and often ran away from his enemies long before and after the war within the shadow of his past.
His most recent book, The Road Ahead and Miles Behind: A Story of Healing and Redemption Between Father and Son chronicles the story of a cross-country road trip taken during the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic with one of the darkest shadows of his past, his relationship with his father.
The Road Ahead and Miles Behind shares the intricate yet beautiful nature between them as they look to reconcile their differences and amend a challenging past. The book is full of inspiring moments and perspectives that demonstrate the healing power of hard conversations with those you love.
It's a story that will remind you it's never too late to have something with your parents.
His journey of service and writing has been featured on the San Jose Mercury, Huffington Post Live, and Conscious Magazine.

This episode was a game changer for me. I have been following along with what Ed Nissen has been doing for a while, so having the opportunity to interview him was quite an honor. i talk to Ed about masculinity, relationship dynamics, archetypes, personality types, how to recognize our strengths and so much. more.
Ed Nissen is a psychotherapist and owns a multi-clinician therapy practice in the Charlotte, NC area. He generally specializes in empowering people to be the ultimate version of themselves by optimizing one’s personality and how they create meaning in life. However, Ed’s niche emerged organically due to desperately needing to transform himself as a man in a marriage. This transformation gave rise to his select specialty of male psychological development in the context of long-term relationships. Carving out such a niche led him to author a book manuscript on the matter that he is now proposing for publication.
Ed does not consider himself very competent at what he does because he believes competency is relative to the knowledge one aims to master. He perpetually grapples with abstract ideas and complex problems, and the subject matter of his book is one of them. The whole idea of male psychological development in relationships–as he states the problem–is deeply abstract and its complexity very nuanced. Therefore, he believes it would be fallacious to act as if he is competent on the matter.
However, this attitude towards competency allows him to openly explore the ideas and concepts with the curiosity necessary for acquiring a profoundly nuanced understanding of the male psychological development in relationships–relative to most who are considered knowledgeable about it. Between his personal and clinical experience—and his study of the research—his quest for the truth of such a matter is unparalleled by most. Ed believes there is much more to learn on the topic. While he does not consider himself the authority on masculinity and relationships, he hopes his work can be groundbreaking enough to advance the world of mental health for men.

We know it is a going to be a great podcast when it feels like a few guys hanging out, busting balls, shooting the shit and getting real. It was an absolute honor to chop it up with Cameron and JP (creators of the Shepherds of Men Movement). These men are doing extremely important work - Redefining masculinity & calling MEN to something greater!
Cameron and JP believe that when we get the MEN right we get the world right! Because of this belief, they created Shepherds of MEN in an effort to eliminate weakness and entitlement in MEN. What makes their message unique is that, although they come from drastically different backgrounds, their core principles have given them a unified voice that is needed more than ever to pave the way for a fundamental change in today's culture.
What do Cameron and JP believe?
Cameron Brown - To be an example, in all areas of my life, for the next generation of men. To live a life that is edifying to my Creator and to my family and to all those that may be influenced by my actions and my attitude. To be a servant leader, putting others before self. To show real love. Not the weak, emotional kind. The kind that stretches people outside of their comfort zone so they can live a life of greatest and then pass that on to the next generation.
Josh Persons - My purpose in life is to inspire and empower other men through a multitude of avenues. I intend to raise the standards of what a real man is while creating an outlet for young men to see what good looks like. This work will create a culture where men take responsibility and pride in the domain which they have been blessed to rule.

This was a fun discussion with one of the most interesting guests we have had on the Building Men Podcast. Keith Yackey is an open, honest, authentic, badass human being. We talk about the way we show up as men, relationship dynamics, transactional relationships and sing a little karaoke in the process.
Keith Yackey is the founder and creator of MarriedGame.com. When his wife left him 5 years ago he realized that he was the problem and that his wife was no longer attracted to him. Since getting her back, Keith has dedicated his life to teaching men how to get their wives to want to have sex with them again. By doing one simple thing, becoming the most attractive version of themselves.

Michael "Chief" Peterson is a motivational speaker who did a presentation at my daughter's school a few months back. The program was so impactful, my daughter said "dad, you need to interview the Chief...he was amazing." She was right...this man was an absolutely tremendous guest to have on the Building Men Podcast.
Michael "Chief" Peterson marries social consciousness with mellow poetic verses. Born and raised in New Britain, CT, he declares himself a man dedicated to his family and focused on helping our youth. Chief not only speaks about social inequities and individual struggle, but he acts to change the cycle. Chief is the playwright of and actor in his one-man show, I Wish Life Had Training Wheels. He was appointed as the first ever Poet Laureate of his hometown, New Britain Connecticut in which he was recently voted into a second term. He appeared on Seasons 4,5, & 6 of the TvOne hit series, Lexus’ Verses and Flow. He is the consecutive three time Connecticut Spoken Word Grand Slam Champion. He finished in 5th place during the National Poetry Slam and currently among the top 5 ranked poets in the Southern Fried National Poetry slam.

This was a game changing interview on the Building Men Podcast. I had the opportunity to speak with a truly enlightened human being - Kute Blackson. We discuss: Breaking free from the expectations and shadows of our fathers, spirituality, being brutally honest with ourselves, dulling the pain of our existence and finding ways to truly feel aligned. Kute shares his thoughts about masculine rights of passage, meditation, and the concepts of mortality, transcendence and spirituality. You will want to have a notebook nearby to take notes.
A charismatic visionary and transformational teacher, Kute Blackson offers a fresh, bold look at spiritual awareness for a whole new generation. Born in Ghana, West Africa, Kute's multicultural upbringing as the child of a Japanese mother and a Ghanaian father has spanned four different continents. His unique lineage lay the foundation for his approach to breaking down barriers and unlocking an individual's true gifts and greatness.Though Kute was raised all over the world, he had always dreamed of life in America. As if by kismet, he won a green card just after finishing school in London. He came to America alone just months later, with no connections or prospects. When Kute arrived in Los Angeles, all he had to his name were two suitcases and the dream of seeking out the spiritual and self-help icons who had inspired him when he was a boy.Kute quickly learned that the "outside-in" approach favored by so many in the personal development space had to become an inside-out approach. So he decided to create his own method—a process that liberates the individual and the true self at the core and then pushes those gifts outward into the universe. This helps the individual get in touch with who they really are. It is a process of breaking free—so that the individual can live, give, and share the truest expression of their self. This is what Kute calls "Liberated Living."Kute is a next generation world leader out to awaken millions to Love and to Live their inspired destiny.
I highly recommend following along with Kute and learning from him as I have.

I started the Building Men Movement in 2005, a few months after my son Denny was born. When I started the Building Men as a middle school assistant principal, I would never have imagined that I would have the opportunity to interview my son seventeen years later. During the evolution of Building Men, I have kept Denny at the center of my mission, reminding myself that I needed to live my life with integrity to live up to the promises I made to him when he was born.
Have I always lived up to that promise? No. I have made mistakes as a man and as a father. I haven’t always been my best for him. Over the past 17 years, I have failed as a father, and I have succeeded as a father. Every day when I wake up, I know that the way I live my life and the lessons I can teach him have an opportunity to leave a legacy that will impact his life and the lives of others who are lucky enough to know him. It is my hope that the way I have lived and the lessons I have taught him have made an imprint on who he is a human being and who he will become as a leader of men in the future.
On this funny and emotional episode, I interview my son, Denny about his experience in school, on the football field and some life lessons learned (and not learned) growing up with me as his old man. We talk about him being a child of divorced parents, we talk about how he overcame difficulties in his life and how he used those experiences to become a better leader in his life. (We also talk about how Denny miraculously passed his driving test even though he almost killed two living creatures, PEENI and elbow sacs.). I am absolutely in awe of this kid.
Happy birthday son. You are one of the most amazing people I have ever met in my life and I am honored to be your father. I love you Denny.
