20 SIDED HORROR STORIES: 1985 — Thursday, October 28 @ 6pm PST
Make sure to follow at 20sidedstories.com/live
This Thursday, October 28 at 6pm Pacific time, 20 Sided Stories presents a Slasher Horror One-Shot Livestream to chill your bones.
Here’s how it works:
Five performers will be split into two teams. Three Victims. Two Killers.
You, the audience, will vote on who’s who, and where the story takes place.
The two teams will then be unable to see or hear each other until their characters cross paths.
But you, watching at home, can see all.
It’s kill or be killed.
Not everyone will make it out alive.
But there are mysteries to solve and secrets to uncover.
And through the text chat, you will be able to influence the story as a ghost.
Featuring live sound design and improvised music, it’s a night of actual play thrills where the greatest fear is FOMO.
So tune into the 20 Sided Horror Story!
Thursday October 28.
6pm Pacific. 9pm Eastern.
Not like there are any other role playing shows during that time anyway...
Go to 20sidedstories.com/live to pick your poison.
That’s 20sidedstories.com/live
Or ELSE.
We return to a world of power and passion... triumph and glory... good and ego.

As of Friday September 21st, I no longer have a job. Me and over 250 employees are part of what is essentially a company shutdown, and thus all my time must go towards the hunt for a new opportunity. I am okay. Stressed but okay. But disappointed to announce that 20 Sided Stories must go on hiatus, and the second half of Pokémon Pen Paper will have to air at a later date. This is probably for the best anyway. In addition to my full time job, I was putting in over 30 hours per episode, totaling a 70+ work week. It’s all work I love, but I am exhausted. And this break will allow episodes 9-16 to get more polish.
Thank you all so much for your support. It is has been incredible hearing the nostalgic joy from everyone and seeing this project find its voice.

Full circle.
The mystery of the ghoul was wrapped once and for all, with Dicky creating an reversing agent. He also created vials that can make one intangible intentionally. With this and their wisdom Matilda, Chamberlin, Simon, and Desmond, all left for Count Alexander's. Though they are feeling suspicious about him. Once aboard a train a girl attempted to steal Simon's belongings and ran off.
Is the Count all who he says he is? Is the Egyptian Urn too legit to quit? What's the deal with the were-cat and WILL THEY EVER GET TO ATLANTIS!? I know the answers to all of these but I'm gonna tell! Instead, your gonna listen...

Finding the Formula.
Our brave adventurers discovered that the spooky ghoul was really a lab assistant who sucks. But she discovered a transparency formula though. So that's neat. Chamberlin and Matilda were invited to a party at the Stonewood Estate. The secretive Urn was found but so was another, darker, hairier secret. Oh and of course, Everly had an announcment... she's pregnant. So much still left to uncover. Can the Dr. make a transparency potion? Can Simon transition to the calm single-identidy lifestyle of fatherhood. Will they find out why there was a wildabeast!? Let's find out if we find out.
The mystery begins.
If you have yet to hear the World Introduction, make it your utmost priority to indulge in that first, and then return. Its only 4 minutes.
We went a lot more free-form in this campaign. Meaning rather than a tested “system” per-se, each character selected slight modifiers towards attributes they prefer, as determined by a class survey. To pass an obstacle, the character rolls a single d10. If they land a 10 or higher, the player may record a point towards their Intuition. 3 points and they may cash it in to get an additional clue from the GM.
But of course, 20 Sided Stories is not about the numbers nor the sides, but the story.
The Party is
(Achilles Gastard). Con-Artist.Richard Chamberlin. Doctor.Matilda Buchanan. Adventurer.
We join our adventurers at the estate of Count Alexander, where each of them have been summoned for reasons regarding a very peculiar Egyptian urn.

An introduction to Victoria 1890.
Out of a gray fog protrudes black fingers, spewing clouds of steam, and booming industry. Man has conquered this world. Though if you peek inside of these pillars of human achievement you'll find them bursting with light!
Welcome to La Belle Époque, the beautiful era, the golden age, the reign of Queen Victoria! The height of the British Empire and peace in western Europe. No longer plagued with war and famine her subjects turn to furthering personal ambition. From the lowliest beggar to the wealthiest exerciser of Carte Blanche. Buildings reach new heights and density creating beautiful architecture and the most treacherous twists of narrow passages and alleyways.
These are the homes of con-artists, thieves, aristocrats, preachers, scientists, detectives, performers. People who strive to better their position at any level through admirable or disreputable means. Those of high status, whether it was dirtily earned and fought for or simply handed to them by the blessing of luck's charming kiss, aim their weapons at all who threathen their grounds.
Meanwhile, in the dim laden streets, the lower class struggle and contest with desperation. Both divisions capable of cheating and killing, prolific innovation, and the display of gifted and unusual talents.
But class warfare be not the only theme of our mysterious tale.Beyond these great cities there lies adventure! The exploration of this concord world. With civilization spreading, connected by trains and new forms of communication, brave souls continue to hunt down myths and rumors left by our ancestors from centuries before. Investigating the darkest corners and quests, seeking unknown treasures and the thrill of discovery.
However, the revelation of these secrets, be it in a tomb, a cave, a lab, or even an unopened door, can expose a side of reality we were not meant to see. Some beasts and monstrosities, be it in the forms of matter or perhaps internal spirit, wish to dwell undisturbed.
And despite famed works of fiction, it is a world that would make one believe the mysteries of Christie, Doyle, and Leblanc. The adventures of Burroughs, Haggard, and London. The possibilities of Stevenson, Verne, and Wells. And the horrors of Le Fanu, Stoker, and Shelley.
Welcome to a mysterious indulgence complementary to Sherlock Homes, Dracula, Penny Dreadful, and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Welcome to Victoria 1890.

An improvised sci-fi horror tale from the crew of The Raptor! This is a bonus, one-off episode. A great place to start and see what 20 Sided Stories is all about!
-
You are now entering The Raptor. Starship for the Consortium, helmed by the notorious Captain Darcy, and currently at its worst. It has been two days of chaos. Members of the crew have been disappearing, and now it seems the whole ship has been taken over by a mysterious, psychic entity known only has Something Else. Most of the crew has either fled through escape pods, killed themselves, or vanished without a trace. And now it seems too that Captain Darcy is overcome by Something Else.
As far as we know there are only three surviving members left...
Jer'q Lightfighter. Saavy Envoy.Mr. Andromeda Riddles. Android Explorer.Cressida Vega. Alien Scientist.
All the rules for Lasers and Feelings fit on one beautifully designed page by John Harper of One Seven Design. You can check it out for yourself at One Seven Design.Com but essentially it goes like this...
If a player needs to overcome something with through action and badassery, they roll for Lasers. If the obstacle is intuitive, or an act of passion, they roll Feelings. If they roll their selected number, they get Laser Feelings, where they can ask the GM a question, and get more intel towards the situation at hand.
We join our space-farers now in the med bay with Captain Darcy's incapacitated body, where they hope to discover the origins of this... Something Else.

The season finale. Our survivors return home from their mission and amongst reunions and revelations, must face one final challenge.

Content Warning: This is a post apocalyptic series. And while it is also comedic, most of the horrible things you would associate with that genre do come up in some way.
So, where are we? Darby, Dallas, and Sammy were all sent out from a secret island town called Angel, to gather supplies for an emigrating caravan. They met up with Angel's previously missing hunter, CD, right after shooting someone who tried to steal their raft. They went to the top of Ravager tower, and after a lot of gunfire and dick jokes, made it out with looted supplies. They gathered round the campfire, but after being attacked by wolves, our survivors had no choice but to make way towards a seemingly abandoned Masonic Library. Upon exploring, they learned quickly that it wasn't abandoned after all, and that there are folks living underground. Those same folks handed over a map that pointed to Mono Lake, to the East, and our adventurers made way to Bunker Coast to finish their list. They stumbled upon a boat, before crossing the bridge, and of course, investigated. The boat didn't work but they met its owner, Toben. The drunk offered a service as long as they'd help him search for his missing crew who were last seen in the mysterious Battery Spencer, where they are about to head in. But not before checking in with their ex-Ravager friend, CD.
This episode is dedicated to my friend Kevin Redrico, who passed away April 5th, 2017. This episode was recorded before the news and I honestly felt for a bit that we should re-record, due to the topic at hand. But I am not one to shy away from heavy discussions. And neither will 20 Sided Stories. I know we don't have a lot of listeners out there yet but, if there's anyone tuning in who has struggled with thoughts of depression or suicide, know that you will make it out of the tunnel. No one knows how long you'll be down there, it could feel like an eternity, but you aren't alone. Persevere. Find your song.
Content Warning: This is a post apocalyptic series. And while it is also comedic, most of the horrible things you would associate with that genre do come up in some way.
Previously, Darby, Dallas, Sammy, and CD, explored the secrets of the Freemason Library. They lost CD for a bit, collected some books that are probably illegible, and discovered a creepy theater. Eventually they met up with CD, and, after a spiritual detour in the cathedral across the street, they were hit by a dust storm. Returning, they took shelter in a back room of the theater. Sammy totally figured out on his own without any help from me, a pass-code, that lead to a confrontation with an actual Freemason, or so they can assume. They received a detailed map with a recommended location to immigrate to, and now have just a few more things to check off before heading back to Angel.
Content Warning: This is a post apocalyptic series. And while it is also comedic, most of the horrible things you would associate with that genre do come up in some way.
Darby, Dallas, Sammy, and CD, gathered around the campfire and discussed various topics such as how Dallas came to have his daughter, how Sammy has never left Angel, long lost religion, and the next steps of their mission. During Darby's watch, the party was attacked by wolves. Dallas once again saved Sammy from worse fate, and the party had no choice but to fire off their guns, potentially alerting the Ravagers who are on their tail. They made way towards the Freemason Library, where they hope to find a map.
Content Warning: This is a post apocalyptic series. And while it is also comedic, most of the horrible things you would associate with that genre do come up in some way.

Dallas, Darby, and Sammy continued their mission to stock up for Angel Island's caravan and so far things aren't going quite as planned. They found the island's missing hunter CD, and worked with him to get to the top of Ravager tower in hopes of stealing supplies. They ended up trapped in a barbed-wire cage by Young Mikel, Age 14. Young Mikel still doesn't know they also killed his father. But Darby used his charming attitude to get an escorted trip to the bathroom, which turned into a pissing contest with a Ravager guard. Literally. Darby won the bet, and now has the key to the Ravager's food stockade.Meanwhile, Dallas and Sammy conjured a plan to send out Bill, a hopeless prisoner of the Ravagers, with a stick of dynamite to scare Young Mikel, and then “save” him, in quotes, to earn his trust. Except, some extra guards just showed up, and they have a striking looking woman in custody.

In this campaign, we will be using a home-brewed RPG system of my own creation called The One System. Unlike most role-playing systems, the lower the number, the better. Getting “The One” is a critical success, and any thing above 6 is a failure. Think of the 1 as a tiny bulls-eye. The odds are usually against the roller, but with a gambling mechanic, players will have to decide if testing their luck is worth the risk of an abysmal failure. Much like the apocalyptic west itself.
But the main focus of this series, this system, and this podcast is to put the numbers aside and focus on the real game at play; the improvised story.
Our protagonists are:
We recommend checking out the World Introduction before diving in.
Enjoy.

A brief introduction to the world and lore of the Macabreverse.
Content Warning: This is a post apocalyptic series. And while it is also comedic, most of the horrible things you would associate with that genre do come up in some way.
Some more goodies:
-
No one remembers how the old world ended.
Buildings are toppled. Ash and fog flood the skies. With dry, blistering days and long, cold nights, entire cities lay beneath the rising tide, and long lost is the world's most valuable commodity: Trust.
Answers may lie beneath all the ruin and water. But there isn't even enough time to search. Most survivors have to live by their name and scavenge for food or supplies above all else. Though, over time, small communities have been raised. Some attempt to recreate the old world through what little knowledge was passed down or read in salvageable books. Many have resorted to tribalism as a result of desperation and confusion.
And then there are Drifters.
Drifters hold no titles or affiliates. They are gunslingers. Mercenaries. Lone scavengers and questless explorers who spend so much time trying to live, they can hardly find something to live for. Since the #1 commodity is so rare, two Drifters crossing paths is almost always a confrontation. It comes down to the most silver tongue or the fastest draw.
But it is important to note that the survivors of this Macabre universe are not savages or inherently “evil”. Most are searching the land for salvation. There is enough bleak proof around them serving as a constant reminder... “Things were once much better”. We understand this concept as Manifest Destiny. Many caravans will set sights on the horizon in hopes of finding what is known as “The New Frontier”.
The most traversed of Drifters know, however, that The Frontier is a lie. It is a fabrication of each survivor's hopes and dreams to find a purpose where any help is almost completely destroyed.
These ideologies divide the New West.
Think of it this way; There are three types of people...
Those who seek to rebuild the past
Those who seek to build a new future
Those who seek nothing than their own gain
Violence is hence still rampant, even with a bare population. You could travel days without encountering a single soul, but that would almost be a blessing.
In most of the New West, among all its crumbled ruin and flooded passages and dry plains and buried bunkers and hidden communities, there is no name more uttered and feared than The Ravagers.
Bandits dressed in black leather and blood. Lawless—that is without moral bounds—and chaotic with no control aside from trickle-down, alpha male power plays. They take, rape, pillage, and plunder all they can. While chaotic and violent in nature, their group is not without organization. Rumor has it that they are lead by a mysterious man named Stefan. He travels with minimum packs of 7, with a mostly covered face, a long duster, and the quickest smoking barrels in all the West.
There are Drifters who make it their sole mission to seek out Stefan, but he never stays in one encampment. Some wish to take his throne, others see his power as a moral dilemma. What is certain is that it takes a legend to catch a legend.
The Ravagers have more concentrated fire power than any faction in the New West. Where most get around on foot or bikes, Ravagers have been on motorcycles and in even buses. They can scavenge faster and wider than any Drifter or caravan, and they do so ruthlessly. It's this sheer power that leads so many to join in the first place. Though, how exactly one becomes a Ravager is still myth.
There are many other groups and collectives across the wasteland. The Ashwood tribe, The Freemasons, Scholars of the Temple of the Fog, and many other secret societies can be discovered by any curious Drifter. That is, if they can best the hurdles of starvation, thirst, and crippling depression.
No one remembers how the old world ended, and while many are happy to leave it behind, just as many search endlessly for clues, answers, and hope.
It is Mad Max meets The Road.
Fallout meets Red Dead Redemption.
The Book of Eli meets The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
Will you fix the world or build a new one?

Imagine this:
Seasoned Actors and Improvisors gather around a table with microphones and play a role-playing game
—But NOT Dungeons & Dragons—
No, they play they're own formats and systems, or ones where the rules are streamlined and easy to follow. Much like an improv game.
Now imagine these games, with all their zany jokes and character quirks and ridiculous encounters, but imagine them, realized, embellished, fleshed out, activated and BROUGHT TO LIFE! So that you hear everything as it unfolded in the performer's heads.
Sound intriguing? Interesting? Impossible, even? Don’t answer!
Welcome to 20 Sided Stories, an improvised role-playing parody podcast hosted by Sage, Travis, Jess, Emily, and David.
With immersive sound design, an original music score, and full ensemble casts of voice talent, we’re going to take you into a variety of familiar worlds and genres, changing every season, with an original story, and brand new characters to meet. All woven together on the spot...
It's the comedy of an improv podcast, but with a cohesive, complete story.
It's the adventure of an actual play podcast, but it's like you’re right there with us.
It's the polish of an Audio Drama, but not even we know what's going to happen next!
20 Sided Stories!
An epic audio quest to tell the best story possible, in every genre imaginable.
