Submit ReviewHello everyone! Thanks for being here and for wanting to learn more about keeping your dog healthy and happy. I’m so excited about today’s guest. With us is Chelsea Kent who co- founded Hero's Pets in Littleton, CO in 2007. She is a regulatory specialist, attends all AAFCO (American Association of Feed Control Officials) meetings and consults for multiple non-profits, manufacturers, retailers and consumers. She also authors educational articles on a variety of veterinary and social platforms.
If you have not yet listened to Chelsea’s previous episode on The Ins and Outs of the Dog Food Landscape, I highly encourage you to check that out. Lots of great information!
Chelsea, as an owner of a boutique pet store, I’d love to get your opinion on the various types of retailers that carry dog food: Boutique vs Big Box vs Grocery Stores.
If someone was to call a manufacturer directly, to inquire about their products, do you have examples of certain questions they should ask?
Can you briefly touch on manufacturer marketing strategies and labeling terms (such as "premium”)?
What other misleading terms do manufacturers use?
Chelsea can you share with us how Hero’s Pets came to be?
What makes your store different from others?
What questions should we be asking our local retailer about the food they carry?
In closing, what is the one thing that you advise dog parents on regarding how to choose the right food?
