Over his career, Tom Comiskey exposed and prosecuted corruption in New York City’s anti-poverty programs and public schools. In his non-fiction account of the Mob in lower Manhattan, Mr. Comiskey cuts through the myths and legends surrounding the East Village organized crime families. Hidden among East Village tenements, storefronts, neighborhood coffee shops, avant-garde art galleries, and alternative rock music venues, the Mafia ran rackets, murdered enemies, and corrupted politicians. From the 1920s to 1990, mob icons from Lucky Luciano, Joey Gallo to Bill Bonanno lived in or frequented the East Village.
