Submit ReviewIn this episode of the Business Side of Music, we talk with Camille Barbone, an established music industry executive, who is best known as the person who discovered, developed, managed, and launched the mainstream music career of superstar Madonna.
We discuss with Camille the new way of doing business during the COVID 19 shutdown of the industry, finding what it takes to not only get your foot in the door, but staying there by immersing yourself in the business and upping your game, by figuring out what it takes to engage those that are important to your career, whether you're an artist, label exec, or someone who's currently going to school wanting to enter the field of the music industry.
Starting out in the business at an early age (as a young girl, she witnessed Carlos Santana in the studio when he was working on his "Abraxes" album) Camille learned about the music industry from a unique perspective; the high tension arena of project and production management at Columbia and Universal/Polygram whereas a manager and later on as a director, she learned how high profile companies were run; coordinating and troubleshooting the activities of the 28 different departments that are integral to the recording, art direction, manufacturing, marketing, radio promotion and release of the label’s huge roster of super-stars such as Billy Joel, The Jacksons, Grace Jones, Pink Floyd, The Bee Gees, Barbra Streisand, Bob Dylan, etc.
At Buddah/Arista Records, Camille specialized in A&R, handling live performance for artists such as Gladys Knight, Andrea True, Michael Henderson, etc.
For almost 3 decades she consulted entertainment companies and music publishers such as Sony, Arista, Universal, Warner Chappell, Peer-Southern, SESAC, F3 Technologies, and more.
Camille has acted as Vice President of Artist Relations and later G.M. for Aezra EMI Records, Vice President, and G.M., for Winedark- Universal Records and President of Stadium Entertainment working with artists such as Sevendust, Kanye West, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire, Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Lady Antebellum, LeAnn Rimes, Trace Adkins, Blake Shelton, Keith Urban, Martina McBride and more.
Camille has owned and operated states of the art studios; Gotham Sound in NYC and Long View Farm Recording, a residential studio in Massachusetts. Past studio clients included Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, Collective Soul, The Indigo Girls, Aaron Neville, Kleer, Johnny and Edgar Winter, Melba Moore, The Jay Giles Band, etc.
She has managed and consulted to major entertainment companies and music publishers through her company, Camille Barbone Coaching & Consulting.
