  • Pokemon dress up
    Dec 16, 2017
It's goofy good. Overall, this is listening to the development of great friendship as they explore the Pokemon world together. This is true both in game and out. I love how excited they get about their Pokemon and the overarching season 1 plot is well designed. The pacing is wonky with season 1 racing through cities and plots and season 2 being a slow walk in the forest with plot hooks taking ages to resolve. You will fall in love with at least one member of the team. Pepper is a good, sweet boy and I would hold his hand. Alan is a god of voice acting.
  • Cherry pick and you'll do well

There's a lot happening here. The exploration of the Pokemon world starts off as a hot mess with insanely long episodes that exhausted me. It gets better later on so if you're familiar with Kanto maybe just skip that for newer regions. There's a smattering of other special episodes that are hit or miss in entertainment value. The spotlight episodes are a little more interesting than reading a bulbapedia entry. This podcast shines brightest when they use their imaginations. They've created Pokemon teams for Power Rangers, summoned up their own gyms, and best of all started a Pokemon RPG campaign. This introduces the best part of Pokemon World Tour: the voice acting of Alan Sells. I would recommend cherry picking the rest of the hodgepodge and diving into PWT United.
  • Fall in love with Power Rangers (again or for the first time)
    Dec 16, 2017
The beginning of this podcast is a trip to 90s nostalgia as they watch the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. It transitioned well in later seasons to a great partner as I watch seasons I am not familiar with. It's especially helpful with the less than stellar episodes/seasons because they can always find something to love. There's A LOT of episodes which can be intimidating, but just like Power Rangers you can pick it up at the start of a season and do decently well. Like many productions it starts off rocky as they find their way but get better and better as you go. My first season with them was Turbo and then I went back to Alien Rangers up to Zeo and then jumped back to the very beginning. It still worked. Jake and Josh create a friendly, open environment and community across their many, many podcasts. If this is your first Hey! Jake and Josh production then you are in for a *putty* good time!
