Another new episode? Damn right.
Ryan Dunfee of Portland, Maine visited our neighborhood in September to do some mountain biking and boondocking. Even if you don't know him you've likely clicked on something that was his fault during his Teton Gravity Research days. True to form we talk skiing and not skiing.
Wintry Mix is Stowe, Waterbury, MRV locals and visitors. Recorded from my office/studio in Waterbury Center.
Episode 55 and 56 dropped right before this one to re-launch the pod for 18/19. So be sure to catch those too. Want to be on the pod? Or sponsor it? Or say anything at all? Email me alex@wintrymixcast.com or leave a voicemail at 802 560 5003. Right now that voicemail is for leaving your car related questions for the upcoming Wintry Mix Car Talk episode.

The pod is back! Episode 55 also just dropped so get both of them.
Aaron Rice decided to ski the most human powered vertical feet in a year. Then he did it. How and why he did it is pretty damn interesting. As is what life is like after accomplishing such a life altering goal. Lucky for us he's doing it in Waterbury so he's on Wintry Mix.
The future of Wintry Mix will be all locals and visitors. Recorded from my office/studio in Waterbury Center.

Happy Halloween. No joke.
People get spooked. When they do they call a paranormal investigator to help them get answers. Stowe's Karen Keene is the Assistant Director and Case Manager for ne.org">Paranormal Investigators of New England.
In the first episode of the locals and visitors format of Wintry Mix I sit down with Karen to learn about her other local pursuits, which are many, as well as what it means to be a ghost hunter. If you want to take one of Karen's (or my wife's) indoor cycling classes check out Ride in Stowe.

This could be fun. This could get crazy. Episode 46 explains how the new format of Wintry Mix will roll, if it rolls at all.
After you've listened this part will make sense. Get those sounds to me at alex @ wintrymixcast.com. First full episode of new format drops (hopefully) in mid September. So get me those sounds by September 6th for potential inclusion.

Maybe this isn't the end, but it's the end of Wintry Mix 1.0. We had a good run. Thanks for listening.
While the news swirls about Vail Resorts east coast arrival, a pair of local skiers/businessmen from the Finger Lakes Region are a few years into ramping up operations at their recently acquired local ski areas, Greek Peak (2013) and Toggenburg (2015).
Episode 44 is a discussion with co-owner Marc Stemerman, who together with his business partner John Maier, has been navigating this new industry after acquiring Greek Peak out of bankruptcy. After decades skiing the place, now they own the place.

The wassailing component of Waterbury Vermont's Winterfest brings out creative musical troops to entertain themselves and local patrons at the town's watering holes.
Episode 17 tries to keep up with this third annual event. Wassailing (verb): The house-visiting wassail is the practice of people going door-to-door, singing and offering a drink from the wassail bowl in exchange for gifts. This practice still exists, but has largely been displaced by caroling.
