Though rare, several known examples exist of doctors, nurses and other caregivers murdering patients.  One of the first such angels of mercy, “Jolly” Jane Toppan, had the desire to kill more helpless people than any other man or woman who ever lived.  By 1901, she would succeed in her goal. This episode, we made the Code Blue cocktail.  A code blue refers to an emergency situation in a hospital.   To make the Code Blue, you’ll need: 4 parts cranberry juice 2 parts citron vodka 2 parts blue curacao 1 part lime juice Granulated sugar Moisten the rim of a chilled martini glass with lime and coat lightly with sugar.  Add ice, cranberry, vodka, curacao and lime juice to shaker, and shake until chilled.  Pour into martini glass and enjoy. Wayne Nathan Nance committed a string of brutal murders around Missoula, Montana from 1974 to 1986.  It wouldn't be known, however, until an attempted crime in 1986 went wrong for Nance, leading to the discovery of evidence that helped solve a decade of murders. This episode, we experienced our first real difficulty finding ingredients for cocktails, but we found a suitable backup drink in the Montana Payback.  The owner of Philadelphia's Hop Sing Laundromat (bar) named his creation for the Battle of Greasy Grass, aka Battle of the Little Bighorn, aka Custer's Last Stand.  The name "Montana Payback" just happened to fit perfectly with the crime for this episode. The murder of Marilyn Sheppard in the small town of Bay Village, Ohio created one of the first media frenzies and captivated the nation for decades.  Her husband, Dr. Sam Sheppard, received a life sentence in the first trial, but his story would continue long after Marilyn’s untimely death. Ken Gorman served as one of the most vocal pot activists in the United States until his untimely death in 2007, when he was shot and killed inside his home.  Many consider him a martyr for the legalization of marijuana.  Could it be a drug-war conspiracy or is someone else responsible? This week, in honor of Ken Gorman, we're enjoying Liquid Marijuana cocktails. A Canadian on holiday in Bermuda, Rebecca “Becky” Middleton was only 17 when she was brutally attacked.  The murder brought unwanted attention to the Jewel of the Atlantic and left Rebecca’s loved ones to fight for justice they’d never realize. In 1885, Austin, Texas experienced a series of assaults and axe murders that brought the city into the national spotlight, for all the wrong reasons.  A killer began targeting black servants in the heart of the city.  Seven women and one man would end up dead by year’s end.  Though authorities tried many suspects for the murders, the case remains a mystery today.
