Submit Review...and please (PLEASE) stick around for the other host who respects and admires both while also showing some love to the auteur Mr. Ben Affleck. This means it's time for another new release! Though it may be a throwback to popcorn dramas aimed at adults (and not children's movies marketed towards adults who won't grow up) we still must cope with the nostalgia factor that is anything set in the 80s or 90s. No matter as Viola Davis comes in to close it out with a speech on the great American tradition of wage theft.
More fun than ANT-MAN 3 these show notes can assure you!

As one does when discussing NOTTING HILL. It's lovely. And mostly gross. The erotica! Not Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant falling for each other across tax brackets in a Richard Curtis script. One host is late to the game and the other never really left his rewatch of Flopsy & the Movie Star. Nor does he ever want to. In fact this is approximately his eighteenth podcast on the very subject.
No apologies! Except for the erotica talk.

...when Orson Welles could still rock a deep V and at the height of his career.
No, not making CITIZEN KANE but instead being married to his co-star in THE LADY FROM SHANGAI, the great Rita Hayworth.
Obviously.
To kick off our trilogy on protagonists out kicking their coverage in like we look at another troubled Welles production which leads into another obvious fact... that he was the Zack Snyder of his time. Enjoy #ReleaseTheSnyderCut community and apologies to everyone else!

... how about two OTHER guys who can't shut up about HIM talking movies?? Huh? HUH?? Worth a dollar?
We certainly hope so. On TRILOGY IN THEORY we've talked about the desire to read more and one of the books both of us have been enjoying recently is Mr. Tarantino's CINEMA SPECULATION. I say enjoying because for our Patreon supporters we are going to produce an episode for each chapter which discusses a film the author into the filmmaker that he is today. Follow along at our Patreon page as once a month (although sometimes more) we read AND watch the following films:

Which is to say that the old men shouting at clouds FINALLY get a franchise reboot that speaks to their hyper-specific demographic for peak nostalgia.
No offense to CREED 3 and JOHN WICK 4. All the offense in the world to SHAZAM 2.
We finish out our trip to New York City with Ghostface taking the subway and one host finally knows one of the new SCREAM requel cast members name. Mainly because Jenna Ortega was on a Netflix show that he didn't watch. Still... it's progress!
Make sure to come back next week for our Patreon exclusive book club episode on the DIRTY HARRY chapter from CINEMA SPECULATION by Quentin Tarantino!

...but the studio didn't really want to pay for it. Another theme is forming as we continue to look at horror movies in New York City (or Vancouver.) This time around we try to figure out if we were ever the right age for Joe Dante's filmography, it is revealed that THE SANDLOT was actually a trilogy and one host's distaste for Alexandra Daddario befuddles the other host AND THE WORLD.
As the great auteur Chris Columbus would say... kill Gizmo. Enjoy!

...but thankfully you have this podcast to keep you company. In which one host calls this series part of the Mt. Rushmore of horror while ALSO calling this the worst film to ever be featured on this very podcast!
The other host is befuddled that there is such a thing as The Tommy Jarvis Saga. And he missed out! So this podcast is basically some Crystal Lake Memories for the fans and uninitiated alike as we join the chorus of complaints about the lack of Manhattan in... JASON TAKES MANHATTAN.
But that's what you have a TRILOGY IN THEORY for as this is merely the first part in our horrific journey to New York City!

Sure LA LA LAND won Best Picture for thirty seconds but then there is GANGSTER SQUAD. Which leaves us with this ensemble film starring Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Marisa Tomei, Lio Tipton and Kevin Bacon as the bad guy... but not really. THANKFULLY there is no ambassador of the movie posters full of squares in Greg Kinnear.
For that would be death.
So come with us as we celebrate the death of our First Date Trilogy and move on to... Jason Takes Manhattan? In March... love is truly dead. But TRILOGY IN THEORY lives.

We make exceptions for any entry in Richard Linklater's BEFORE trilogy and this time it's BEFORE SUNRISE! However as the producers of this independent podcast we can't pass up on an opportunity to listen to one of our more popular episodes when we covered the second part of Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke's adventures... BEFORE SUNSET.

I'll wait a moment for you to catch your podcast breath after that masterpiece and spoiler alert... we top that episode as one host calls this the ultimate cheat movie while working at a video store and your other host had to get married to finally enjoy this romance without any cynicism. It's beautiful. It's romantic. It's the latest episode of TRILOGY IN THEORY.
