We have recently been accused of racist and homophobic content. After a long internal conversation our response is that it is unfortunate that we have reached a place where nuanced conversation apparently cannot take place.
The accusations were directed towards two moments from Episode 216, one in which OC tells a story regarding his son and a spelling error and another in which OC tells us about a former online comedian who, after going off of his prescribed medications, began tweeting transphobic material and committed suicide.
At no time during either of these moments did any single member of the show say anything directly racist or hinting at racist, nor did anyone support the transphobic statements made by an unmedicated now deceased comedian.
We spend a lot of time on this show taking on potentially controversial topics, with the understanding that they may get misinterpreted. However, it does not mean we will not respond to those misinterpretations. Generally we do so privately, in this instance we have decided as a group to respond publicly. We strive to put out as positive, fun, and harmless material as we possibly can, that will not change.
This week's episode starts out with a very clear message to any and all critics/accusers. We will continue to have these complex conversations. Enjoy this week's show!
