Submit ReviewFor 58 years our guest was a dedicated educator in the Houston Independent School District (HISD).
As evidence of our guests' indelible impact on the Furr High School during her 17-year tenure, education advocate and philanthropist Laurene Powell Jobs, wife of the late Apple, Inc. CEO Steve Jobs, recognized Furr High School in 2016 as a recipient of a ten-million-dollar grant grant through the XQ Super School Project. Our guests’ school was one of 10 selected from nearly 700 schools nationwide for “reimagining high school education.”

Dr. Barbara Roberts’ life is a story of passion: for women’s rights, motherhood, medicine, love, and the underdog. She stood up for what she believed in and battled politics, career stereotypes, her children’s fathers, the Family Court system, public scrutiny, and even her own conscience at times. And she made it through all, proving to be the hero of her own unique journey. Her memoir, The Doctor Broad [Heliotrope Books, September 3, 2019], details it all.

In January 2003, our guest from today was found dead in the bathroom of a small restaurant. He had been dead for over half an hour. When paramedics arrived, they put him in a body bag and took him away. But a rookie paramedic had a feeling and decided to risk his career, break all protocols, and try to resuscitate Vincent. It worked! He restarted Vincent’s heart! Vincent was in a coma for three days after. He gained consciousness and has lived a full life since. We're exploring what he saw after being pronounced dead and how he's living his life now, as well as his message for those of us that lost loved ones.

Purpose activator, entrepreneur, scientist, author, speaker, innovation, product and systems consultant and undaunted catalyst Dr. Holly Woods and I had a great conversation about what happens when we start counting our blessings.
She disagreed with me in a way, but that just made the conversation even more interesting and it helped me learn something new. Hope you will too!

We're joined today by Nimo, the artist behind one of the most beautiful gratitude songs with over 2m views on Youtube. His unique perspective on complaining and gratitude is so powerful and I'm happy to be sharing it with you!
Nimo Patel went from an Ivy League education to Wall Street, to fame and fortune as a MTV Rap star but didn't find fulfillment in his worldy success. For the past 10 years Nimo has been serving and working with the underprivileged communities in the Gandhi Ashram in India. Most recently Nimo has reconnected to his roots of music and is offering this gift of love, peace and oneness through his songs: an offering he calls "Empty Hands Music". Nimo chose the title 'Empty Hands', because of the profound wisdom we all can gain when we understand this deeper truth: that we arrive on this planet empty handed and we will all soon leave empty handed.

Taking on too much, either because of our own over ambitious character (like in my case usually) or due to changes in schedule (like in the story I'm sharing) or due to other reasons, makes us become a certain type of person that doesn't enjoy things much and can be focused on the wrong things, even though he/she is getting rewarded for that kind of focus.

Unless our 6 basic human needs are met, feeling grateful and happy can be quite a challenge. In this episode, I've touched on each of the 6 basic needs, on the 3 sections of our brain and how they influence our state. Also, our focus went on what we can do about the challenges, so that we leave more space for gratitude and fulfillment. There are 7 morning habits that can make a huge difference in our life & they're based on our basic human needs.
Hope you enjoy it and find it useful for you and for your loved ones!
Thanks so much for subscribing and for sharing!

Thankful to our fellow Gratitude Seeker Norda Mullen for her beautiful flute interpretation of Amazing Grace which accompanies today's episode. She has been the touring flautist for the English classic rock group, the Moody Blues, since 2003, and has also played in the orchestra for many motion pictures in Hollywood, including Toy Story II and III, Cars, Monsters, Inc, and Jurassic Park II and III., among others and now I’m honored to give credits to her, on our podcast. Thank you Norda for your continued support and appreciation!

Our guest for today is a self-taught decorative artist who, as a single mother, built her business into a nationally recognized company with projects published in every major design magazine in the US. Her new memoir, “This or Something Better” takes an unflinching look at early abuse and its effects. Readers learn how nature guided and empowered her successful career, until devastating fires on her mountain forced her to face her lifelong issues with trust. She and her husband live in Northern California, where they hike and ride horses on Sonoma Mountain.

Our guest endured a rough upbringing before becoming a proud Marine right out of high school. He was trained to fight the enemy and was prepared for war. When he volunteered for a combat tour in Iraq, little did he know his real battle would be fought in his mind. After eight years of military service, Sgt Q suffered from depression, anger, and panic attacks and was diagnosed with PTSD. Sgt Q traded the battlefield for the mission field and found healing and purpose through building homes and churches, feeding children, and supplying precious hope to struggling communities worldwide. He felt called to form QMissions, a pathway for veterans—SgtQ’s fellow warfighters—to replace the battle scars of their minds with the joy of serving. Now, Sgt Q is the award-winning author of Healing Thru Service originally aimed at struggling veterans, which also offers help for anyone in crisis and may be one's ticket to a more fulfilled life. He went from being homeless and on the brink of suicide to starting the multi-million dollar company with over 100 employees, Reliable Commercial Cleaning, founding the veteran non-profit, Q Missions, and the health-tech startup, Q Actual 2.0.

Had to go for 5 ideas about gratitude instead of the usual 3 as Jack Canfield is a huge advocate of gratitude and that became more and more clear as I was doing my research for this episode.
The purpose of this kind of episode is to learn from the best, from those people that we admire and that inspire us, to explore their perspective on gratitude and see how we can implement it in our life as well.

Our guest was born in Peoria, Illinois in an Orthodox Jews family. When she was two years old her family moved to Israel. Matana Jacobs grew up speaking Hebrew at school and with her friends and English at home. Now Matana lives in the US, she's a health consultant and podcaster but also a proud mother of 5. She used gratitude to heal her depression after a really challenging situation that she shares with us on the podcast and managed to turn her life around becoming one of the most passionate advocates of gratitude I know.

An orchestra director, violonist and string teacher, our guest Karen Dillard is also one of you, a Gratitude Seeker.
She shared how much the podcast has impacted her life and I found out what amazing things she's been doing and what a legacy she's living the world so we talked a bit on Instagram and invited her to share her story and her love for music.
Exploring and appreciating deeply something in particular can be a great source of gratitude and happiness, in contrast with always wanting more/new things for a short burst of excitement.
