Over the last six years, Other People’s Shoes has become more than just a podcast; it’s become a community. This milestone wouldn’t be possible without the support of so many amazing people:

So many other friends — To everyone who stopped by to give a birthday greeting, your words remind me why I continue this journey.
This podcast has always been about progress—slow and steady, just like the tortoise in the fable of the tortoise and the hare. The journey hasn’t always been fast or easy, but it’s been consistent and meaningful. Every story shared, every lesson learned, and every listener touched fuels my determination to keep going. It’s not about the race; it’s about the journey.

I’d love to hear from YOU! What’s been your favorite episode or takeaway from the past six years? Feel free to share your thoughts, and let’s celebrate together.

Imagine this for a moment: it’s Saturday afternoon. The week has been long, and you’ve finally carved out some time for yourself. You’re in your favorite cozy spot in the living room—maybe it’s the couch that perfectly hugs you or that recliner that’s seen better days but feels just right. You’ve got the TV on, ready to catch up on your favorite show, and for a moment, everything feels perfect.
💠
And then it happens.
Alexa’s voice cuts through your peaceful bubble: “Someone is at the front door.”
💠
Annoyed, you groan, thinking, “Who could it be now?” Maybe it’s a neighbor, or worse—a salesperson. You grudgingly get up, annoyed at the interruption. You’re already rehearsing your response in your head: “No, I’m not interested. I don’t care what you’re selling!”
💠
As you peek out the window, you realize it’s not a salesperson. It’s worse.
💠
Standing there are two people with smiles too wide for comfort, clutching those unmistakable pamphlets. You mutter to yourself, “Jehovah’s Witnesses. Great.” Your mind flashes to Sam from work—you know, the one who’s always leaving those flyers around the breakroom. You can’t help but roll your eyes.
💠
Now, you’re faced with a dilemma. Do you answer the door? Or do you pretend you’re not home and wait them out?
💠
My guest today, Amber, has a unique perspective on this situation. She’s a fifth-generation Jehovah’s Witness who made the bold decision to leave the Kingdom Hall behind—a choice that came with enormous consequences. Why did she leave? What was it like to walk away from a faith that had been part of her family for generations?
Amber’s story is one of courage, heartbreak, and rediscovery. There’s a reason she’s chosen not to share her last name, and as you’ll hear, her journey is as eye-opening as it is powerful.
💠
So, are you ready to find out what it’s really like to step away from a faith so deeply rooted in your identity? To hear the story of someone who chose to walk a different path despite the odds?
💠
Hit play and join me as I step into the shoes of Amber, a former Jehovah’s Witness.

What comes to mind when you hear the word "yoga"? To be candid, my first thought is yoga pants—and pain. Okay, maybe sweat and a little smelliness, too.
💠
Yoga is so much more than that. Step into Other People’s Shoes and join me for an inspiring conversation with Lynda Hébert, a woman who truly embodies the strength, balance, and determination of the Warrior Pose (Virabhadrasana). Like the pose itself, which challenges us to find focus and resilience, Lynda’s journey has been one of perseverance and transformation.
💠
Sparked by the struggles of her siblings, Lynda turned heartbreak into purpose, immersing herself in the study of mind, body, and spirit wellness. Through her book, Strong, Sane & Sassy, she empowers readers to embrace sustainable habits that lead to lasting health and vitality—not just for themselves but for future generations.
💠
Lynda’s passion for helping others shines as she shares practical insights and powerful encouragement to live a truth-oriented, energy-producing life. This episode is a must-listen for anyone seeking inspiration to cultivate balance, resilience, and wellness in their own life.

Welcome to Season 19 of Other People's Shoes titled "X-Ray."
💠
This season, I’m diving into the theme of X-Ray "sight beyond sight," exploring the unseen damage and resilience in our lives. It’s about uncovering what lies beneath the surface, understanding our struggles, and discovering the beauty in how God works through even the most challenging moments. As I embark on this journey, let these words resonate with you: "While I'm waiting, I will serve You. While I'm waiting, I will worship. While I'm waiting, I will not faint. I'll be running the race even while I wait." Today, I’m honored to welcome my guest, Kim Patton, author of the book Nothing Wasted: Struggling Well Through Difficult Seasons. Difficult seasons catch us off guard and make us feel like life won’t ever make sense again. On my worst days, it’s hard to believe that God will guide me through the mess. Even on my good days, when I feel I have done all the right things, I sometimes wonder: Why am I working this job? Am I making a difference? How do I know the way to go? Why can’t I seem to be content? In Nothing Wasted, Kim Patton takes us on a journey of hope and faith. She shows how we mature over time, how like fog dissipating, we begin to see how God gently leads us through each season of our lives. We may be struggling, but we are moving forward. My faith is not unseen. My moments are not wasted. All the pain that comes in these seasons does lead to a full, rich life, growing in relationship with God and with others. Kim’s story and insights are a powerful reminder that even when life is falling apart, God is still at work, weaving a story of redemption and purpose. Do you embrace difficult seasons and trust that nothing is wasted in God’s hands? Join me as I walk in Kim's shoes.

🎄 Merry Christmas from Other People's Shoes! 🎄
This holiday season, we have one last gift for you to unwrap. Continuing what has become a beloved tradition, Garrett joins Neil to reflect on the previous six years of the show in this special season finale of Homecoming—the 18th season of Other People's Shoes. Get ready for laughter, reflection, and a bit of holiday cheer as Garrett quizzes Neil in a way only he can.
As we wrap up another incredible year, let me ask you:
Here’s the beautiful truth: as long as you’re breathing, there’s still time.
As we close the chapter on 2024, know this: we’re here to serve you with stories that inspire, encourage, and remind you that walking in other people’s shoes truly gives you a new perspective on life.
Thank you for walking with us this year. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and we’ll see you in 2025 as we step into Season 19: X-Ray to uncover the “sight beyond sight.”
What’s the greatest Christmas gift you’ve ever received? For many, it might have been a pony or a horse—a dream for countless children. For our guest Kim Tschirret, founder of Hope Reins in Raleigh, horses were more than a gift; they were a lifeline. Growing up in a home marked by her father’s alcoholism and a lack of unconditional love, Kim found solace and safety in her horse. While her father prioritized performance and horse shows, Kim longed for a deeper bond—a relationship that planted the seeds for Hope Reins. Today, Hope Reins is a ministry that "Inspires True Hope and Real Healing," offering a place where children and families can encounter Jesus, who meets them in their brokenness and brings restoration. For Kim, the journey of founding Hope Reins has brought her personal healing and a profound experience of God’s love. This growing community of grace is making a tangible impact across the Triangle and beyond, providing a space where love, healing, and transformation come to life. Saddle up! Join me as we try on Kim's shoes. 🎄🐴

What is your favorite Christmas Movie? One of my favorites has to be "It's A Wonderful Life". In *It's a Wonderful Life*, George Bailey discovers his worth and the profound impact of his life on others. Guided by an angel, he sees a world without his influence, realizing how deeply his choices matter. Similarly, *Homecoming*, the 18th season of *Other People’s Shoes*, explores returning to places of safety and belonging, reminding us of the unseen value of our lives and connections. This idea resonates with John Graham and the Good Samaritan Home, a non-profit that has been offering ex-offenders housing and support since 2001. From one remodeled house to 17 homes in Dayton, Ohio, they’ve helped over 1,000 people rebuild their lives through faith and kindness. Just as George learns that brokenness can lead to redemption, the Good Samaritan Home shows that broken lives, like broken houses, can be restored. Join me as I walk in John Graham’s boots.

Who do you need a hug from today? Take a moment and read that sentence again: *Who do you need a hug from today?* Now, think carefully—who was the first person that came to mind? Say their name out loud. Chances are, it’s someone you hold close to your heart, someone who means the world to you. It’s probably not someone you hold resentment or disdain toward, is it? Hugs, after all, symbolize connection, care, and a shared moment of vulnerability. My guest today is Jennifer Sakata, someone who understands the deep power of grace in everyday life. Jennifer invites you and me to step into a place she calls "the corner of real grace for real life." It’s a neighborhood where forgiveness, belonging, empowerment, and faith aren’t just concepts—they’re alive and thriving. Join me as we lace up Jennifer’s shoes and walk alongside her story. Let’s explore how grace can reshape our lives, relationships, and even the way we think about who we need a hug from today.
