Submit ReviewLet's step out of the box! Today, I'm joined by the incredibly talented and deeply authentic Seán O'Grady. Seán's journey is one many of us can relate to—marked by challenges, including a past with drugs, and a search for identity and purpose. Seán’s story is so powerful because he turned the lens on his own life and began to tell stories through photography and videography. Seán first picked up a camera back in high school while navigating his love for skateboarding, music, and the arts. Although he didn't feel confident enough to pursue those creative paths directly, the camera gave him a unique way to immerse himself in the culture, document it, and become a creative force within it. Whether he's capturing the energy of a live show, the artistry of a chef in the kitchen, or the spirit of a brand with a meaningful mission, Seán has found a way to be present, contribute, and inspire. He sees his camera as more than just a tool—it's a bridge between his passions and the world, a stage where he doesn't need to perform, but still gets to shine. Now, Seán uses his skills to tell engaging stories that spark social change and bring awareness to the causes and communities he cares about. As he puts it, "I'm blessed to be able to do what I love to do. Come with me on my journey and let me capture your reality.” Join me as I try on Seán shoes.

April Fools’ Day: A Day of Tricks—But Don’t Be Deceived. April Fools’ Day has been around for centuries, but its origins are a little murky. Some say it started in 1582 when France switched from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar, moving the New Year from April 1st to January 1st. Those who didn’t get the memo—or refused to accept the change—were mocked and tricked, earning the title of “April fools.” Others trace it back to ancient Roman festivals where deception and pranks were part of the celebration. Either way, it’s a day built on fooling people, making them believe something that isn’t true.
Yesterday, I played along. On social media, I teased that Other People’s Shoes was coming to an end and that the time had come for a change. It was just a joke, but for a moment, some believed it. And that got me thinking—how often do we believe the lies we’re told?
Because the truth is, deception isn’t just for one day a year. It’s happening all around us, every single day.
Right now, our young people are being fed lies—about their identity, their worth, their purpose. They’re told they can define their own truth, that faith is outdated, that they don’t belong. And many parents are left feeling helpless, believing another dangerous lie: there’s nothing they can do.
My guest, Debra McNinch, knows this battle all too well.
For her, one phone call changed everything. She had raised her family in faith, yet one of her children took a path she never expected. Fear, shame, and heartbreak followed. She wondered where she went wrong, and questioned if she had failed as a mother. But then she learned the most powerful truth of all:
God is not done writing their story.
In Battle Cry, Debra shares how to:
Develop a focused daily prayer plan to lay your prodigal at Jesus’ feet.
Let go of your imagined “fairy-tale” life and trust God with your reality.
Overcome the shame of not raising perfect Christian children.
Her motto is simple: NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE.
This is a wake-up call. The enemy wants us to believe our prodigals are too far gone, that prayer doesn’t work, that hope is lost. But that’s just another trick.
Who will rise up? Who will answer the call to stand in the gap, to battle in prayer, to intercede for our sons and daughters?
Satan may think he’s won, but the battle isn’t over. God is still in control, and our prodigals are coming home.
Buy Battle Cry click here today and pray your prodigal home. Join me as I walk in Debra’s shoes.

Imagine this for a moment: it’s Saturday afternoon. The week has been long, and you’ve finally carved out some time for yourself. You’re in your favorite cozy spot in the living room—maybe it’s the couch that perfectly hugs you or that recliner that’s seen better days but feels just right. You’ve got the TV on, ready to catch up on your favorite show, and for a moment, everything feels perfect.
💠
And then it happens.
Alexa’s voice cuts through your peaceful bubble: “Someone is at the front door.”
💠
Annoyed, you groan, thinking, “Who could it be now?” Maybe it’s a neighbor, or worse—a salesperson. You grudgingly get up, annoyed at the interruption. You’re already rehearsing your response in your head: “No, I’m not interested. I don’t care what you’re selling!”
💠
As you peek out the window, you realize it’s not a salesperson. It’s worse.
💠
Standing there are two people with smiles too wide for comfort, clutching those unmistakable pamphlets. You mutter to yourself, “Jehovah’s Witnesses. Great.” Your mind flashes to Sam from work—you know, the one who’s always leaving those flyers around the breakroom. You can’t help but roll your eyes.
💠
Now, you’re faced with a dilemma. Do you answer the door? Or do you pretend you’re not home and wait them out?
💠
My guest today, Nathan, has a unique perspective on this situation. He’s a second-generation Jehovah’s Witness who made the bold decision to leave the Kingdom Hall behind—a choice that came with enormous consequences. Why did he leave? What was it like to walk away from a faith that had been part of his family for generations?
Nathan’s story is one of courage, heartbreak, and rediscovery. There’s a reason he’s chosen not to share his last name, and as you’ll hear, his journey is as eye-opening as it is powerful.
💠
So, are you ready to find out what it’s really like to step away from a faith so deeply rooted in your identity? To hear the story of someone who chose to walk a different path despite the odds?
💠
Hit play and join me as I step into the shoes of Nathan, a former Jehovah’s Witness.

💔 Abortion. A word that carries weight, controversy, pain, and shame. It’s a topic often whispered about, avoided in conversation, or shrouded in judgment. But what happens when the shame isn't just about the choice—but about who you are? This week, my guest, Tonya Bailey Jones, shares her powerful journey of self-discovery—one that took decades to fully embrace. For much of her life, she struggled with her identity, unable to confidently say the words: I am Tonya Bailey Jones. But today, she not only says them—she knows and loves who she is. From childhood, Tonya felt like an outsider, never truly accepted for who she was. As she moved through adulthood, she became a version of herself shaped by the validation of others—playing the role she thought she was supposed to. The distractions of military service, parenting, and everyday responsibilities allowed her to bury the unease deep inside. But when retirement brought stillness, its weight became undeniable. She could no longer outrun “the feeling.” The mask she had worn for so long began to crumble. Join us as Tonya opens up about the deep shame, the search for identity, and the moment she finally embraced her true self. Her story is one of resilience, self-acceptance, and the courage to face the person in the mirror. 👟 Join me as I walk in Tonya’s shoes.

Loathing...The Duke vs. UNC rivalry is the sports equivalent of Loathing from Wicked—a relationship built on deep-seated animosity, unwavering contempt, and just a hint of begrudging respect. Much like Elphaba and Glinda’s cutting yet strangely harmonious duet, the Tar Heels and Blue Devils are forever intertwined, each defining the other through decades of battles on the hardwood. Every season, the Cameron Crazies' sneers and the Dean Dome’s roars echo the song’s theatrical vitriol—"Every little trait, however small, makes my very flesh begin to crawl!"—a sentiment any UNC fan can relate to when spotting Duke’s blue and white on the court. My guest today is Andy Bagwell. Andy Bagwell, co-author of Duke Sucks: A Completely Even-Handed, Unbiased Investigation into the Most Evil Team on Planet Earth, captured this dynamic perfectly, dissecting Duke’s infamous flopping, smug superiority, and, of course, their uncanny ability to get every foul call.
But in true Other People’s Shoes fashion, what happens if we step back and examine this rivalry from another angle? The loathing, after all, is what makes it great—what fuels the passion, the unforgettable moments, the pure ecstasy of victory and the gut-wrenching agony of defeat. Without Duke, there is no UNC dominance; without UNC, there is no Duke villainy. Just as Elphaba and Glinda’s friction drives Wicked’s story forward, this rivalry elevates college basketball itself. It’s a hatred that, deep down, every fan secretly loves. Because in the end, while loathing may be the foundation, the rivalry itself is pure magic. Join me as I step into Andy's shoes.

Which would you rather indulge in, lemons or tamales? I feel like it's a pretty easy choice, right? Life has a way of throwing challenges at us when we least expect it. Sometimes, it feels like all we have are lemons—sour, bitter, and hard to swallow. But what if, instead of making lemonade, we made something heartier, something rich with culture, love, and perseverance—like tamales? In this episode, I sit down with Leslie Alvarez, a woman whose life is a testament to resilience, hustle, and the power of staying true to oneself. From a young age, Leslie learned the value of hard work and determination. Whether it was selling homemade oatmeal cookies to buy a bike or making tamales to support her family, she embraced the philosophy: “Where there is a will, there is always a way.” This mantra has carried her through some of life’s toughest moments. Leslie’s journey is one of incredible highs and devastating lows—financial struggles, relationship breakdowns, health crises, and career setbacks. She has faced them all, from early motherhood and divorce to job loss and a terrifying incident involving her son. Yet, through every storm, she chose to rise, using each hardship as fuel for growth and transformation. Leslie reminds us that while life may hand us lemons, we can turn them into something meaningful. Whether it’s tamales, a new career, or a fresh perspective, there is always a way forward. Join me as I walk in Leslie’s shoes.

In this heartfelt episode of Other People's Shoes, I sit down with my good friend Mike Oppenheim from the podcast Coffin Talk. Mike has become a true friend in this podcasting space, and today he shares a deeply personal journey about anger, grief, and missing his son. He opens up about the invisible weight he carries—how, on the outside, you might not see the pain etched into his heart, but it's always there, shaping his days. Mike's story is a raw, emotional exploration of love, loss, and the resilience it takes to move forward. Through our conversation, we unpack the layers of his grief, understanding how it intertwines with hope and the belief in eventual reunion. As part of this episode, I wrote a poem titled Tomorrow, inspired by Mike's experience. It captures the enduring love of a father for his son, the ache of absence, and the unwavering hope for a reunion. Join me as I try on Mike's shoes.
Tomorrow
Tomorrow, I'll think of you just like today,With echoes of laughter that never fade away.Your name is carved deep within my chest,A sacred place where my heart finds rest.
Tomorrow, I'll stand by the door you once passed,Holding onto memories I pray will last. Not out of anger, not out of blame,But love unshaken, still burning the same.
Tomorrow, I'll sit in the room made for you,Though you've never seen it, it's always felt true.Walls whispering stories we never got through,Pillow untouched, sheets still neat,But in my dreams, I hear your feet.
Tomorrow, I'll feel the ache in my chest,Missing your voice, your smile, your jest.Yet hope's gentle whisper calls out to say,There will come our Reunion Day.
Tomorrow, I'll trace the stars in the sky,Imagining you're under the same, close by.Though miles may stretch and time may roam,You’ve never left the heart you call home.
Tomorrow, I'll believe in the thread unseen,Tied between hearts, strong and keen.No distance can break, no silence can sway,The love that grows stronger every day.
Tomorrow, I'll wait with arms open wide,No shadow of anger, just warmth inside. For deep down I know, come what may,We’ll find each other on that bright Reunion Day.
Tomorrow, and every day until then,I'll carry you softly, again and again. Not with sorrow, not with dismay—But with the hope of our tomorrow, lighting the way.
Tomorrow, and always, know this is true,No words could measure how much I love you.
Takeaways from This Episode:
Grief can be hidden beneath the surface; you never know the pain someone carries.
The power of friendship and authentic conversations in healing.
How hope can coexist with grief, offering a light in the darkest moments.

Buffalos have a unique instinct when facing storms—they don’t run away like other animals; instead, they charge directly into the storm. By doing this, they minimize their time in harsh conditions and emerge stronger on the other side. In life, we are constantly faced with challenges, and just like the buffalo, we have a choice: we can run from adversity and prolong our struggles, or we can face difficulties head-on, knowing that growth lies beyond the storm. Jill Ogle, a guest on Other People's Shoes, shares this powerful message of transformation, encouraging others to embrace life’s storms rather than run from them. Like the buffalo running into the storm, you have the power to transform your current reality into one of harmony and success. We believe in the power of synchronicity and know that you have found us for a reason. When the student is ready, the teacher appears, and your time for transformation is now. Step into the storm with courage, embrace all that you are, and watch as you emerge stronger than ever. Join me I try on Jill's sandals.
