Submit ReviewIgnore the above description of HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK... we assure you that this is a family friendly film. Presumably certified as such by existing on the Disney+ platform until the end of time.
On this episode we discuss sequels essentially serving as a remake by doing a cinematic version of jumping the shark in a very special vacation episode where Macaulay Culkin travels to New York to meet up with his old punching bags Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern. Along the way all three are disgusted by a lady covered in bird poop. Happy holidays!

And then the world would know Kevin McCallister's wrath... or at the very least Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern who got a bit too handsy with Christmas goods.
Among other crimes.
On this episode one host looks upon with horror as he continues to procreate while the childless host looks on in equal horror at what he's done. Then we enjoy a holiday classic with the Chris Columbus directed original in the HOME ALONE cinematic universe.

However his co-host Derek (of the much better THE GRAND GESTURE podcast) calls ZACK SNYDER'S JUSTICE LEAGUE "better than my own child."
Which extreme opinion do you fancy? Find out by listening to an awful lot of debate over funny books on film in our episode on the two Justice Leagues.

For an episode on video game movies we have to bring on a real dork in Jared of SOBER CINEMA. As he speaks with us from the comfort of his gaming chair some important matters discussed in the world of MORTAL KOMBAT:
Also we get around to discussing the first feature film adaptation from 1995 and the new HBO Max joint. Because Liu Kang needs no defending.

David Giannini has unfortunately started a new podcast called OFF SCREEN DEATH.
That's bad.
But his co-host is the co-host of this show, Mike Denniston.
That's good.
However as part of the promotional tour for OFF SCREEN DEATH (that's the name of the new movie podcast that is half good and half bad) Dave is the guest on this episode for THE APARTMENT and WICKER PARK.
That's bad.
But the episode is good. We promise. We make fun of Josh Hartnett's hair, Matthew Lillard's face and feud over rights to love Rose Byrne all before Mike starts talking about large breasts in French cinema.
It's more good than bad. Enjoy!

Jairo of MARK AS PLAYED joins the show to suggest that while Ralph Fiennes is no body builder... his version of a serial killer is still "a touch on the sexy side."
This is just the beginning of disagreement as Mike defends the honor of ORIGINAL REMAKE by siding with Michael Mann's version of this Hannibal Lector adjacent story in MANHUNTER and our idiot guest sides with Brett Ratner.
Not just RED DRAGON but Brett Ratner. And that's not even mentioning the tiger penis sequence... though our guest does. Repeatedly. Enjoy!

Getting yourself in the mood for the Halloween season is easy if one tries to emulate the passion shared between Raul Julia and Angelica Huston's respective versions of Gomez and Morticia Addams. And while one host was really into the attacking of Christmas carolers and sword-fighting sunshine that dares to enter the marital bed of this great couple... the other was glad that the filmmakers decided to cut away before that passion went too far.
But there is no cutting away on Original Remake. Enjoy a month of THE ADDAMS FAMILY as we begin with the 1991 feature film adaptation!

In one of the worst movies ever reviewed on this podcast, we attempted to find positive things to talk about in a sequel no one asked for. With a decent idea with a twist on a retelling of the 1997 film I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER (1997), this installment failed to present anything in the franchise worthy of digging back up.

In preparation for a holiday weekend of no traveling we attempt to comfort you with some scary tales passed down from the 1998 film URBAN LEGEND. Perhaps the one about the killer waiting in the backseat of the car. Or the scratching sound coming from outside the car on Lover's Lane. Even the one about Tara Reid's career. Truly terrifying. All of this and some love for the great thespians coming out of the even greater state of Kentucky in our latest episode!

As we wind down the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad summer of 2020 why not make ourselves feel better by at least NOT being stalked by a smelly fisherman with a hook? To make this even more appealing we spend perhaps an unhealthy amount of time talking about Ryan Phillippe's butt, Jennifer Love Hewitt's chest and our complete lack of trust in Freddie Prinze Jr. to do a hard day's work. But he did marry Buffy! All of this is to say watching I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER was a better time than a pandemic summer. Even if everyone smells of fish.

While the practical applications of horror classic FRIGHT NIGHT might have always been in doubt, in the age of social distancing we see two neighbors truly crossing lines in both the 1985 and 2011 versions of these comedic takes on the vampire genre. And while one host likes his vampire neighbor a bit more aggressive when he comes over to borrow a can of beer the other host, perhaps due to his southern gentlemen upbringing, prefers the charm of an unbuttoned shirt and a come hither gaze. This episode reveals the origin story of an unappreciated podcaster with talent who meets a well-known drunk and thus this very podcast was born. Shockingly Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper tell a very similar story in their Oscar-nominated remake of a film that is now on its fourth incarnation. We choose to compare it to the 1976 version with Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson because it's all about the music. Man. Or something like that. Click these links, that's what matters:

Peter is back after being thrown OVERBOARD for our first episode of 2019, but he gets his revenge on co-host Mike by taunting him over his lack of a shoe rack built by The Great Kurt Russell. As it turns out in that 1987 film his co-star Goldie Hawn also does not get such magnificent shelving for shoes and instead through the movie magic of amnesia finds out that she is married to Mr. Russell (life imitates art, I guess) and is now a blue collar mother of three. This original film gave birth to another remake but on this episode we are talking about the 2018 version starring Eugenio Derbez and Anna Faris. And we were not amused. 2018 is over but we cynically expect 2019 to get a whole hell of a lot worse. And to help us with that doomsday predicting mood we bring on the biggest cinephile cynic we know, Ben Zuk of 99 FROM 99 to take in a double feature of NIGHT OF THE DEMON and DRAG ME TO HELL. And while Sam Raimi's 2009 film was loosely inspired by this 1957 horror movie, they both provide a great playbook with how to live with a curse. For instance one might want to try killing a cat? Guest Web Bist returns to ORIGINAL REMAKE discussing possibly host Mike's ALL TIME FAVORITE FILM in Alfred Hitchcock's REAR WINDOW. Is the enthusiasm shared for 2007's loose remake DISTURBIA? Well, no, but we have a lot of fun with this one debating the nuances of how we can root for peeping tom Jimmy Stewart, who chooses his creepy activities over a life with Grace Kelly... and yet we still hate Shia Labeouf SO MUCH MORE. So maybe none of this is surprising, but to wrap up these shownotes with some bit of new information... Web and Mike have a new podcast coming soon called TRILOGY TALK. For READY PLAYER ONE we do some counting of our own, though as usual we can only manage getting up to two movies. No matter, as this time our original film is the Walter Matthau starring THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE from 1974 and our remake casts Denzel Washington in 2009 for the same part as a train conductor trying to negotiate the release of hostages in New York's subway tunnels. If you want to continue the counting game, try your hand at how many expletives John Travolta throws out during his negotations and also how many times host Peter lets you know that he continues to hate Mr. Matthau. On this episode we gather up our friends (more specifically Peter and his partner Mike the Troll) to take on not one but TWO alien invasions in the films ATTACK THE BLOCK and SUPER 8. Separated by months in the States back in 2011, these two films share similar premises of teenagers coping with an alien presence in their small communities and we share our own experiences growing up to inform our outlook. For our episode celebrating the release of BLADE RUNNER 2049, the sequel to the classic Ridley Scott sci-fi film, we debate the big questions. Not if Deckard is a replicant, but just who thought that this film was going to be a big box office success? Certainly not our guest, Dave of POP CULTURE CASE STUDY, who gives one super fan's response to this universe's continuation. Meanwhile our host Mike continues to lament not the darkness of this particular sci-fi world, but the fact that this visual feast of a movie looks much better on his iPhone than his local theater.

On this episode we reset, watch GROUNDHOG DAY, EDGE OF TOMORROW, and then do it all again for your listening pleasure. In a battle between two Ritas, Andie Macdowell fights Emily Blunt for the hearts of hosts Peter and Mike as they look at films that share the similar concept of reliving one day over and over again. Do we choose the comedic and ice sculpting skills of Bill Murray? Or maybe the rare sighting of a cowardly Tom Cruise running away from a fight is more our speed? The only way to find out is to listen to this episode. But all we ask is ONE listen. That's more than enough.

Peter is joined by Amanda from Amanda's Picture Show A Go Go for a discussion and comparison of THE SCARLET LETTER and EASY A. Defying Emma Stone, Peter and Amanda watched the 1995 version anyway to see how bad it really is. Tune in to find out!
In this episode we take a look back at the made-for-tv movie STEPHEN KING'S IT and compare it to the box office hit IT. We discuss everything from comparing Curry and Skarsgård's Pennywise, changes in the remake, and even go over which actors the new Losers would like to see play their older versions in Part II.

On this episode we celebrate the release of IT by looking at another Stephen King adaptation... only this time the original was a theatrical film and the remake a television mini-series. Margo D. of the BOOK VS. MOVIE podcast joins ORIGINAL REMAKE as our official Stephen King expert as we relive the horror of early television CGI, a kinder, sweeter father haunted by personal demons at the Overlook, and a sitcom star doing his best (worst?) Jack Nicholson. Join us as we declare a winner between Stanley Kubrick and Stephen King as we look at both versions of THE SHINING!

For our 50th episode, we compare the similarities in THE TRUMAN SHOW and EDTV and for the first time, answer listener feedback! Thanks again to everyone that has supported us!
We are joined by the crew of the You Don't Know Ish podcast for a trip through space and time to compare Ridley Scott's much loved classic ALIEN and his not so loved return in PROMETHEUS. Along the way we discover a shared love for Michael Fassbender's prankster robot, why Charlize Theron would not be a top fantasy football draft pick, and the true nature of horror in the shape of a penis. Enjoy!

On this episode film critic Alice Bishop joins us at the lovely Civil War era bed and breakfast as found in the 1971 and 2017 film version of THE BEGUILED. We discuss the differences in seeing Colin Farrell and action and western icon Clint Eastwood in a state of vulnerability and how one increases the horror of the situation in these similarly plotted films. The accusation of whitewashing in the new Sofia Coppola version is discussed as is the different interests between her and the original's director Don Siegel. All in all its a lovely time where we exchange mushroom recipes.
ALSO: Our friendship survives a minor disagreement on the merits of Blake Lively in shark flicks.

Inspired by the recent release of Spider-man: Homecoming, Peter is joined by Chris Braaten from the More Gooder Than Podcast to discuss and compare Sam Raimi's Spider-man and Marc Webb's reboot from 2014. Along with talks about Willem Dafoe's cheekbones, there's also some love given to Arnold and some of his classics.

On this episode we turn to a baby podcaster himself, Dan of Get Reel Movies, a film site that caters to millenials. We ask him his take on Edgar Wright's version of the stoic getaway driver in BABY DRIVER, under the assumption that the hosts of this show are just too damn old to get it. However a love for Ryan Gosling and the film DRIVE knows no age barriers as we rave about that film and then get into the meat of modern online film criticism: which driver has the best playlist for conducting cool chase sequences?
All of this and we find out that Canadians aren't that nice in the latest episode of ORIGINAL REMAKE.
ALSO: Be sure to check out Dan's interview with DRIVE screenwriter Hossein Amini on his podcast GET REEL MOVIES.

For this much Cruise on this episode of ORIGINAL REMAKE, we have to bring on a fellow Tom Cruise enthusiast and a man who understands the need for speed in Jason Michael from ATLANTIC SCREEN CONNECTION. We discuss the glory days of star power without the need for a franchise, even if TOP GUN and DAYS OF THUNDER share so many similarities they could almost be about the same character. Of course the music, mentors, and ridiculously named rivals change. So join us as we decide if we like our Cruise delivered by ground or air!
Anticipating Tom Cruise's new MUMMY movie, Peter invites Jon of Now In Technicolor to discuss and compare Boris Karloff in 1932's THE MUMMY and the loosely based remake in 1999 with Brendan Fraser.
In this epsisode, Michael sits out and Peter is joined by Hannah of the Film Roast Podcast to discuss and compare the 1974 tv movie starring Cathy Lee Crosby and the unaired pilot from 2011 starring Adrianne Palicki. They also give their thoughts on expectations of the upcoming 2017 movie starring Gal Gadot.
Being mostly unsatisfied with the weekly reboot and clones that Hollywood presents us every week we head to space to find our own in two older films: Duncan Jones' MOON from 2009 and Joseph Kosinski's OBLIVION from 2013. Can multiple Sam Rockwells take on the star power of Tom Cruise? Which A.I. do we want to take orders from, Kevin Spacey or Melissa Leo? And is there something to be appreciated in a copy? We certainly hope so on that last question as that's the premise of this podcast.
On this episode we celebrate (?) the old fashioned format of video for the video release of RINGS which came out earlier this year... not that anyone noticed. But guest Alice Bishop did! And we discuss this reboot of the original remake THE RING from 2002, which carries on the tradition of this franchise always being slightly behind the times from a technology standpoint and better uses of the idea such as 2015's IT FOLLOWS. This episode may sound pretty negative but it includes one of my favorite live cover performance, so there's that.
For the home release of The Founder, we decide to compare it with a similar idea in David Fincher's The Social Network. For this review we bring in Alicja of Reel Red Reviews who brings in a different insight than two men who seem to only want to talk about attractive men on screen.
In this episode where we compare a comedic caper to it's more toned down remake, we recruit Daniel of GET REEL MOVIES to join in on the heist with us to talk about THE ITALIAN JOB! What starts out is your traditional comparison and discussion leads to allegedly picking on our Canadian friend and his love for Aaron Sorkin.
We give this podcast thing a second chance in our return from the dead. To do so we are joined by Alyssa from the Hindsight Movie Podcast for a double feature of HERE COMES MR. JORDAN and DOWN TO EARTH. Which films reminded us of the joy of talking cinema and which one made us wish we stayed in podcast heaven? Find out on this episode along with many other things like the meaning of getting "in the pink" and the announcement of an ENTIRELY NEW PODCAST from Alyssa and your hosts Mike and Peter!
In this episode the original hosts of the show, Mike and Peter, are back just in time for an alien invasion involving Keanu Reeves and placenta armor. But before we get to Scott Derrickson's 2008 remake, a look back at the original Cold War era film from 1951 when Gort robots could bend their knees and could predict the future heroic quests of a man with a chainsaw for a hand. Then we predict a newer version of this film which involves The Chastain. Then again that's our hope for every future remake.
With Marvel's Dr. Strange premiering and newly home released Star Trek Beyond coming in the same week, Peter and returning guest Seth Heasley of the Take Me To Your Reader Podcast take a look at Khan in both STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN and STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS.
On this episode we take a ride with the original GIRL ON THE TRAIN in Alfred Hitchcock's 1938 film THE LADY VANISHES. Joining us on the trip to the 2013 BBC television remake is Dwight Hurst from The Broken Brain podcast, who helps us cure our current affliction of hysterical women and the podcasters who love them.
We saddle up and return from our podcast hiatus which was spent on watching the VERY LONG but very good Akira Kurosawa film SEVEN SAMURAI. The saddle part comes in with the first western remake THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN. These two films also inspire possible stripper names and sexy Halloween costumes for our hosts Mike and Peter.
Peter is joined by returning guest Mason of reeldudereviews.com for a discussion about the 2003 FINDING NEMO and the 2016 FINDING DORY. They being with a non-spoiler review and then debate which movie about talking fishes was more realistic.
With the upcoming release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Out of the Shadows, Peter recruits the aide of Aaron and Patrick of the Feelin' Film Podcast to review the 1990 and 2014 versions of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES. They talk about their history with the popular franchise and also recast some of the more notable characters in this Turtle Power filled episode.
We have our own civil war with two sides of Captain America. The first being the failed release of his 1990 adventure which ended up making its way direct to video in 1992. The much higher budgeted Marvel Cinematic Universe version in 2011 introduced Cap as The First Avenger and was the last solo MCU film before a little arthouse success in Joss Whedon's Avengers the following year. This one isn't much of a debate, so we bring in Master Sergeant Bill Paxton as a true threat to the guy wielding the shield.
On this episode hosts Peter and Mike combine our last two holiday weekends of Mother's Day and Friday the 13th by watching two versions of the mother/daughter body switch comedy FREAKY FRIDAY. Is this the only chance for Lindsay Lohan to better Jodie Foster in an acting performance? Does Jamie Lee Curtis' 2003 rendition of "...Baby One More Time" have us traveling back to the 1976 version as quickly as we can? Find out the answer to these very important questions in our latest episode!
In this episode host Peter is joined by guest Mason of ReelDudeReviews.com to compare the animated JUNGLE BOOK with the new live-action version directed by Jon Favreau. They discuss some of the differences in characters and tell you which version they recommend.
On this episode hosts Mike and Peter decide to enroll in the SCHOOL FOR SCOUNDRELS instead of seeing Melissa McCarthy's THE BOSS. We discuss how the scoundrel curriculum has changed from the 1960 original to the 2006 remake taught by Billy Bob Thornton. And being the great students that we are, we make some recommendations for staffing in a future version of this story.
On this episode we celebrate the return of baseball (mainly just Michael) by watching the 1976 and 2005 versions of THE BAD NEWS BEARS. We admire the hard living of Walter Matthau, the romantic peak of Billy Bob Thornton, and the cinematic coaching abilities of Mark Wahlberg in PAIN & GAIN. Join us as we take your earbuds back to a time when Freddy Krueger ruled the diamond as we wait for Richard Linklater's newest baseball movie EVERYBODY WANTS SOME to make its way to our local theater.
On this episode, featured player and our resident horror expert Derek Stewart returns to relive the horror of watching BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. We discuss the film's attempt to present a version of Frank Miller's THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS on the big screen, which was far more successfully done with a straightforward animated adaptation for the home video market.
Peter recruits Jay of The KedaNJay Show to compare both versions of SUPERMAN II and discuss if either versions made us believe a man can fly and all the differences between both movies.
We take a look back at a 1965 classic western SONS OF KATIE ELDER and compare it with it's loose remake FOUR BROTHERS.
In this episode our hosts take a tour of the White House twice with the films Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down. Do they choose Gerard Butler or Channing Tatum as their tour guide? Two-Face or Electro as their President? But most importantly, which First Kid was more annoying to noted child hater Mike?
On this episode we protect the integrity of Precinct 13, or more accurately Precinct 9, Division 13. Shane Conner, co-host of the podcast War Machine vs. War Horse, bunkers down for a debate on the appropriate amount of cheese, how far we have NOT come in film casting since 1976, and the possibility of future remakes for this John Carpenter classic. But for now, we try to survive the 1976 and 2005 versions of ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13.
We look into the life of former track star Steve Prefontaine, from the University of Oregon, in PREFONTAINE and WITHOUT LIMITS. We discuss the style and perspectives from some of the different characters and also debate Breckin Meyer or Jeremy Sisto.
We discuss Ben Still remaking a film to far greater effect than ZOOLANDER 2 with the 2013 version of THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY. Listen to us compare the fantasies of not one, but TWO Walter Mittys. Do we daydream about Danny Kaye patter-songs? Or maybe Ben Stiller punching Adam Scott in his very punchable face is more our tempo. Either way, all of your fantasies will be fulfilled in the latest episode of ORIGINAL REMAKE.
For all of our podcast valentines out there we present A Very Problematic Episode on how to lie, cheat, steal, and manipulate your way to success with the ladies. To do so, we of course don't share any actual life experience but take in a double feature of the 1955 LADYKILLERS starring Alec Guinness and the 2004 Coen brothers remake starring Tom Hanks. We look at not only the cultural differences between the English and American versions, but also how the 2004 version would be received in 2016. And of course some Batman and James Bond talk with guest Derek Stewart because... hashtags.
With the hubbub going on in Hollywood, we remake our hosts by having an Asian play Mike and a Caucasian playing Peter. Jokes aside, with Mike absent from this episode, Peter is joined by guest host Seth Heasley from the Take Me to Your Reader Podcast to compare the 1960's Rat Pack filled Ocean's 11 with it's remake Ocean's Eleven. We attempt to pull off the ultimate heist by making you think Original Remake is on iTunes and Stitcher.
We get someone topical by questioning the Academy Awards choices, though we are stuck in 2009 with the winner of Best Foreign Language Film, THE SECRET IN THEIR EYES. We talk about the differences in style, tone, and relevance with the little seen English remake starring Chiwetel Eijofor, Nicole Kidman, and Julia Roberts. This will definitely be our most downloaded episode.
We attempt the ninth Osaki ordeal in reviewing and comparing the 1991 and 2015 remake of POINT BREAK. Find out how different or similar the two movies were and ultimately, which one we'd recommend.
On this episode, Mike and Peter continue to talk Star Wars by going all the way back to one of the inspirations for the A NEW HOPE in Akira Kurosawa's THE HIDDEN FORTRESS. We talk about the original Artoo and Threepio and praise the two princesses seen in both versions. However ONLY ONE has a Death Star!
On this episode we look at the striking similarities between the newest chapter in the Star Wars saga, THE FORCE AWAKENS, to the first film A NEW HOPE. Warning for those strange folk who may listen to an ORIGINAL REMAKE episode before seeing what is already one of the most popular films of all time (and we appreciate you!) but there be spoilers ahead as we talk about many of the same story beats that these two films share, and how Episode 7 puts a modern touch on them.
With the release of the much anticipated ASH VS EVIL DEAD, we decided to go back to the origins of Ash Williams and compare Sam Raimi's 1981 cult classic EVIL DEAD and the Fede Alvarez remake. We are joined again by Derek Stewart of N-Us.com">Horror-N-Us.com in this follow up to our Halloween weekend extravaganza.
In this episode we celebrate Halloween with... Halloween! John Carpenter's genre defining film faces off against Rob Zombie's remake, and we accuse one of these filmmakers of being the quarterback on the couch. We'll let you guess which one. To find out for sure, listen to our discussion with our horror expert guest Derek Stewart.
