There has been a TON of buzz in the Stephen Smith case, which is a good thing. Just like they did in the Satterfield case, Eric Bland and Ronnie Richter have done a full-court press ensuring Stephen’s case is front and center in the media.

After eight long years, the family of Stephen Smith is finally seeing momentum in their quest for answers about why he was left to die on a Hampton County road. But challenges remain as DIY detectives on social media spread misinformation about the case and try to paint Stephen’s mother as on a crusade against the Murdaugh family.

A private medical examiner must be present from the start of the exhumation through the examination period at a cost of approximately $750 per hour. Now that Alex Murdaugh has been convicted in the murders of his wife and son, it’s time to take a look back on all the pieces that had to come together for the jury to deliver that guilty verdict.

Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell talk about key testimony in the case and also had a fun chat with South Carolina prosecutor Creighton Waters himself.

Looking ahead, we have big plans to expand our particular style of journalism to other cases across the country — cases that would be solved if not for local corruption in law enforcement and other government agencies, but we still have a lot of work to do with this case.

Over the next few months we will be redoubling our efforts into our investigation of the Stephen Smith Case. Sandy, Stephanie and the entire Smith family deserve to see justice in this case, which should have been solved in 2015.

So this is a big day — we hope a new day — in South Carolina.
