Submit ReviewOur guest on this episode is captivating! Who better to talk to us about "captivating on command" than the dazzling Stephanie Garcia?
Capturing the attention of an audience or a potential client is a skill that can take people many years to hone. There's a psychology to what people respond to, and Stephanie has it completely dialed-in.
"The meaning of communication is the response that you get."
We learn a lot about how to think about communication on this episode -- get your note taking devices ready!

Our most popular episode up until now was on a similar subject, so we're really happy to have this guest on to revisit it -- but with a big twist!
Our guest Danny does a great job of differentiating "chat automation," "messenger marketing," and "chatGPT," and how they work through the sales funnel and beyond.
The technology is important, but it's also fundamentally important that we are humanizing our brand voice through these chat automations.
"Another one of my mantras that I live by is don't try to automate anything that you've been unwilling to get good at doing manually. Otherwise, you will automate failure."
He talks us through why most bots are not doing their intended jobs -- because of the humans behind them -- so that's becoming more important as more people and brands are using these tools.

Generative artificial intelligence has made a BIG splash over the past few months!
Actually, it made big news with announcements from Google and Microsoft the week we recorded this episode about ChatGPT, in particular (recorded / multicasted on Feb. 9, 2023).
"It's not something to be afraid of, but it's certainly something to be aware of. And I think all of us as content creators have a responsibility to understand how to differentiate ourselves from these tools."Indeed, how to differentiate human from machine... What that looks like or whether it's even necessary? This is something we will all be discussing and debating as these tools continue to emerge.

We've done a few shows with guests who own and run agencies, and each have a different perspective and story. On this episode we have another motivating agency story for entrepreneurs and WOMEN.
An agency that is woman-founded and owned, AND has a focus in a specific (male-dominated) industry is super inspirational.
From a "we didn't even have a computer" start, to being a full-scale branding, PR, and digital agency more than three decades later, these two ladies have an amazing team and so much insight to share with us.
Wichita IS Aviation, and so is Greteman Group... the Aviation marketing pros.
Our guests
Sonia Greteman, Creative Director, Chair of the Board, & Founder of Greteman Group
Whether increasing a client’s market share, connecting with new audiences or championing community engagement, Sonia helps clients achieve maximum altitude. Challenging designers and writers to dig deeper, think smarter. Three decades of helping build brands puts Sonia in demand outside the office, too, serving on multi-disciplinary teams, promoting culturally rich, visually satisfying environments.
Steady, managed growth means clients don’t get lost in the shuffle. They know their brand managers and that Sonia’s directly involved. Almost three decades of helping build some of the world’s best-known brands has put Sonia in demand.
Ashley grew up in aviation.
And she has advanced through the ranks over 19 years. As the head of business development, she puts her extensive aviation background to good use securing clients such as Clay Lacy Aviation, JetHQ, King Aerospace and Vantis. She has helped lead the firm's ongoing evolution to stay abreast of marketing innovations. She understands how to communicate a brand's essence and achieve a vision.
Today, she gives back to the industry and community as the first female chair of the Wichita Aero Club. The Wichita Business Journal selected her as 2008 40 Under 40 and 2021 Marketing Award honoree.

People are more collaborative and connected on TT than just about any other platform these days! If you hang out in the comments, you will learn so many different perspectives.

Everyone has a personal brand! And everyone who talks about personal branding approaches it in a different way.
What is a personal brand?
"I like to think of it as the version of you that lives in other people's heads."

Google Analytics is a beast that is being transformed! Google's Universal Analytics is becoming GA4. Well, for some it already is, but for others who were not ready for the transition, they provided a reprieve until summer of '23!

We have talked before about how marketing, sales, and customer experience should work together, rather than in silos... But we have never had a guest explain there is an actual framework and strategy around this called "Revenue Operations" (Rev Ops).
Having alignment of sales, marketing, and customer success across the FULL customer lifecycle is a way to be more efficient across all departments, and Rev Ops helps you get there.
We discuss how this might be a potential solution as we could be approaching a recession. It doesn't take more staff -- Rev Ops is based around using your staff smarter across the entire organization.
Community also comes into the chat, and so much more.

What happens when two podcasters join two podcasters in a combined show collaboration marketing round table? Crazy awesomeness ensues!!
We wanted to have Jeff Sieh and Grace Duffy from "Social Media News Live" on our show to talk about how they consistently do a weekly live broadcast that becomes a podcast. And they wanted to have us on to discuss the latest crazy marketing news... So we did it together and called it a "Marketing Power Panel"!
Jen and Megan recorded this live on Jeff and Grace's Social Media News Live show on Friday, Nov. 4th -- the week Elon Musk took ownership of Twitter. We discuss the implications of that, along with other marketing news, and insights about what's going on in digital marketing.
We then asked Jeff and Grace questions about doing a live show that is a consistent force, advice for someone just starting out, and got their recommended business books for our listeners!

The "Fear of Missing Out" - or FOMO - is a real thing. Our guest on this one talks about FOMO being a good thing!
She has made it her mission to help businesses create FOMO to drive brand and product awareness and event attendance. She and Jen talk about how you can actually help drive buzz and awareness by using the hashtag even if you aren't in person at an event.
Showcasing products by creating your own "Truman Show" is also a top tactic... Check out how she thinks you can do that and more through pre-FOMO, during FOMO, and post-FOMO!
Also, May King has a giggle you will never forget.
Our guest...
May King Tsang is the original FOMO Creator helping you to bridge the gap between Social Media and PR for your product or service launch, webinar, festival or conference.
She does this by creating Live Social Media Content on your best performing platforms.
She interviews speakers, attendees, sponsors and conference hosts to generate buzz and excitement for your business.
May King is also a live community manager for digital challenges, enriching your challenge to help attendees go from participant to buyer.

Lindsey Bowshier is president of a media company she is part owner of, and through years of being part of a growing agency, she and her team have implemented “traction” and the “Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS).” She shares what that is and how her agency is using it successfully.
Her agency Tribute Media is also a HubSpot agency partner, so she shares how inbound marketing works for both her company and their clients. They’ve always had a big focus on user experience and HubSpot helps them accelerate things.
So many ideas shared through her own experience for those who own their own business or are considering it.

On this final episode of season five(!) we take a look under the hood of the impact events can have in a different way than we have previously. Chief Nation is a UK-based agency that has made connecting people through events their mission. It turns out intimate events (both online and in person) where you have all the right people "in the room" is very effective for building relationships and driving revenue! Who knew? ;-)
Megan and Jen speak with two of the managing directors of the agency who give us insight into why the connections we make face-to-face are a pivotal part of the "digital to human" experience. We also get a little advice for agency owners and have a few laughs (standard).
This was an epic way to close out season 5! Thank you for listening and PLEASE provide any feedback or suggestions you may have via DM on our Twitter @MakeAMarketer. And season six is on the way…
Our guests...

My solo shows have been quite popular and work well with my schedule (having to schedule just me!), so this is the third and final one of those in season five.
Every Monday, with one exception since February 8th of 2021, I have posted a “Monday Musing.” These musings are typically a story that include what I see as a business lesson. Sometimes they are just about something interesting intended to get people thinking! In this episode I talk about two that have really resonated with people on social media, and I also talk about progress and recognition in the meetings and events industry after two difficult years (the meat of this "sandwich").
Optimal Confusion
Have you considered confusion can make you smarter? That it might fire-up a part of your brain that might have been dormant? This will get you thinking!
Events Progress
We are absolutely NOT where we were in 2019, nor should we be. We have had our challenges, but the progress the meetings and events industry is making AND recognition of those in it is important to talk about! There is data to support the progress--more can be learned on this episode of the Trade Show Talk Podcast - Episode 7 with Doug Emslie -- CEO of Tarsus and Kai Hattendorf -- CEO of UFI.
Awe & Wonder
You might not believe in symbolism, but you'll probably still think what happened to me was pretty cool. Do you ever just sit with yourself in the quiet? Amazing things can happen, and when they fall in line with a book you are reading? Even better! This resonated with a lot of people.

When someone this important agrees to be your 100th episode guest, you record whenever she is available! Jen and Megan were beyond delighted when THE content marketing maven Ann Handley agreed to be on 100. (We might have fan-girled just a little!)
Can you believe she used to think writing was boring? For real.
She went from thinking she had to write about herself to writing stories about things that happened that delighted her… from thoughts, emotions, feelings… to the ridiculous stuff that goes on that she can tell stories about.
Ann has so much to teach us, and if you know who she is, you already know this. If you have not discovered her just yet, you’re in for an even bigger treat with this one.
"I don't think writer's block is really a thing. I think that when we say we have writer's block, it's usually something else."
We talk about how to track content back to revenue, how we should reframe content as a mechanism to hone our relationships with clients and prospects over time, and so much more.
Are you listening to your audience? Your audience will tell you what content is and isn’t working!
There are so many valuable nuggets and this EPIC episode… Even a brief chat about NFTs for good measure.
Our guest...
As the world's first Chief Content Officer, Ann Handley speaks and writes about how you can rethink the way your business markets. Cited in Forbes as the most influential woman in Social Media and recognized by ForbesWoman as one of the top 20 women bloggers, Ann is the Chief Content Officer of MarketingProfs, a training company that empowers marketers internationally with the skills they need to drive success at their companies. She is a speaker, author, and member of the LinkedIn Influencer program. A pioneer in digital marketing, Ann is the co-founder of ClickZ.com, which was one of the first sources of digital marketing news and commentary.

We can have seasons in our careers and in our businesses. Our guest on this inspiring episode shares that just because we might be entrepreneurs with a certain type of business doesn't mean we have to keep doing that thing. We can have a new "season" of our business and ourselves.
And if we are serving ourselves first - checking in and taking care of ourselves first - we can then be there for our clients, our businesses, our people in a more impactful way.
SO much inspiration on this one!

Season 5 is holding nothing back, and this episode featuring Angus Nelson is no exception. He blew our minds, motivated us, inspired us, taught us, and made us laugh.

This our very first "no guest" episode! It's an idea host Megan has been toying with -- to add a third episode each month that's a very brief recap on recent marketing news or a "what I learned" recently sort of thing. We really look forward to your feedback if this is something you'd like more of as a supplement to the two episodes per month we normally publish.
Megan had a BIG birthday recently and through that adventure there were a few things that occurred to her that are life / business lessons. It's just about 12-minutes long, and she also did the editing herself on this one, so please forgive if it's a little less smooth than normal:).

Have you ever thought about how your personal brand might affect sales? We talk about so much more on this episode, but our guest's insight on how our personal brand is a reflection on everything is super interesting!
"...so when you think you work for a company, you're really working in the best interest of them. And, unfortunately, some organizations just don't put their people at the center. And so we as individuals have a responsibility to ourselves, I believe, to put ourselves at the center of what we do. And so your brand is doing that -- in every way..."
Truly, this episode gets DEEP in a way you might not expect, given the title of the show. We would LOVE to hear what you think! If you comment on our Twitter, we would love, love, love that!

Also - social media has evolved quite a bit. Do you think it has become more challenging to manage? We cover that!
Our guests...

There is HUGE upside to audio media. Here you are, reading about this podcast episode - an audio medium. This is one-way, though, right? One of the beauties of the emerging audio platforms, like Clubhouse*, is that you get to engage with others in a very personal way. You can truly interact with your community - or build one.
We have a "club" in Clubhouse called Making a Marketer! And we want to interact with you - please join us. We're going to do a Clubhouse or two as a follow-up to this episode... Judi Fox even gives YOU some calls to action inside the show.
SO many amazing nuggets about Clubhouse and some LinkedIn too (that IS her jam outside of CH, of course).
*Clubhouse is currently only on iOS, but all of this info can be applied to any audio platform!

It's about what TikTok has truly gotten right so far. It IS fun, AND it can be used to drive business! These two things don't have to mutually exclusive.
Check out this super informative episode about how TikTok is emerging as the top social media platform worldwide!

For the last 75 episodes we've mostly talked strategies and tactics in marketing, but after hearing Gary speak on Clubhouse a few times, it was obvious it would be interesting to get a little philosophical & maybe even sociological on this one.
We break down what "Social Media Marketing" is, its evolution, and discuss the impact of how we communicate (or are communicated to) in digital media these days.
We get deep, y'all!

This is a LANDMARK episode -- number 75! Thank you for being with us through 75 strong, as we look towards the next 75. We LOVE doing this podcast, and feel blessed that you are listening.
I believe people show up in our lives when they are meant to. After watching and listening to the amazing nuggets this guest was sharing online, she was instantly on my radar as a person we had to have on this podcast.
The work of accessibility in digital marketing is incredibly important "as humans," as Alex states eloquently, but it's also our obligation as digital marketers to be sure as many people as possible see our marketing.
65% of humans might not. If that isn't compelling enough to learn more, I don't know what would be!
Every human should be able to read and hear every thing we do as marketers. Full stop.
Grab a pen and paper for all the tips Alex gives us!!
Our guest...

There are many ways to test our content. We can do A/B testing of email subjects and different calls to action... But HOW do you test visuals? Historically, the only real way to do that has been through market research (I don't say this on the show, but I personally have been paid a BUNCH of money to take part in market research studies!), which is expensive.
What if there was a company using AI that can give you data on what visuals will resonate with your audiences? What if it was a SaaS product that would save you a ton of money - you'd jump at it, right? We're not "promoting a product here" -- we don't do that -- we are sharing a NEW and unique solution to an old time issue.
Also, Christina is the queen of #MarketingTwitter, so it made perfect sense for us to also talk about the platform we both love to bits.
This is a GOOD one, y'all! Another show that will help prepare you for a new year. Please let us know your feedback on the show and what subjects you'd like us to cover in the new year.
Here's a scientific article about visual intelligence, and a fancy deck about how it works.
Our guest...
Former teacher and marketing director, Christina works with Fortune 500 brands to strengthen their digital strategy. With inbound marketing and audience intelligence at the heart of her work, Christina focuses her efforts to encourage a deep dive to understand personas, competitors, and more. With her work at VIZIT, Christina works to create strategy playbooks and visual intelligence reports in the pursuit of content that resonates with the target audience. She has a deep love for audience research and social listening, believing that to truly understand your audience, you need to listen to them. Christina is featured in HubSpot Academy's Social Media certification course, as well as their separate course on social listening. She has been a speaker for national events like INBOUND19 and Adapted Digital Media Summit as well as local events for the Virginia SBDC. You can also find her featured in various ebooks by Social Insider, HubSpot, and Talkwalker, as well as articles by The Next Web and Meltwater.

Y'all, email marketing is no joke. Social media is important, but it's rented land, which you'll hear about straight-away. Rob and Kennedy are our guests on this episode -- two guys who are epic and successful in their individual spaces who carved out a niche (which they would pronounce NEESH, since they're British!) in email marketing because they had so much success with it.
Email marketing is about making sure people have all the information they need for WHEN they want to buy... we should be using email to nurture those relationships.
Our guests...
Rob & Kennedy are from Newcastle Upon Tyne in the North east of England
You might know them as hosts of the very entertaining podcast, The Email Marketing Show, or as the founders of the survey platform that makes you sales, ResponseSuite.
Red-haired Rob is a comedy stage hypnotist, and platinum-haired Kennedy a psychological mind reader (or mentalist as they call it in the US), who have spent almost 18 years each relying on their skills of getting into other people’s heads to carve out successful careers in show-business.
Now as founders of EmailMarketingHeroes.com, Rob and Kennedy’s mission is to save the world from that grubby old-fashioned email marketing we’ve all grown to loathe, and give others the tools to become the Email Marketing Heroes in their small businesses.
Rob and Kennedy are here to help you make more sales and grow your business by sending more emails that people love receiving.
Goal stated by Kennedy: "Let's try to become less crap than we were yesterday."
My absolute favorite tips were about the subject line and the preview bits! I'm not going to tell you why... when you listen you'll know the reason.
For sure, this is one of our most resourceful episodes yet. Email marketing has been bumped off for social media, but it's unquestionably more important. Megan used to "do email" (no, seriously, she got hired by a dot-com without a title)... and this chat was so enlightening! Things. Have. Changed.
"You're the only person who looks at 100% of your content."

To just be KIND is the best advice anyone can give in life. Our guest on this episode exudes kindness that's not just in her name, but in her being.
We start out with Mskindness sharing how she got into the cannabis space, and explore not just her journey, but also how using EDUCATION in marketing cannabis is crucial.
Our guest...
Mskindness is a Master Educator, CEO of cbd.com/">EBK Apothecary, & founder of Club Kindness. As a motivational coach, CBD entrepreneur, author, wife, mother, and cannabis advocate, Mskindness is not only her given name, but more importantly, a calling. Her passion is fed by a desire to bring inclusive health education to the masses, via excellent pedagogical practices in the Cannabis space and beyond.
“For me it’s simple. Cannabis calms the chaos, and gratitude wins.”
This brief episode packs a big punch! If you are not a cannabis marketer, but a generalist or in another industry all together, this show is still valuable -- using education in marketing is something we can all be doing vs. just "selling." TOP word from this show: INCLUSIVITY.

This is the first episode of a handful we're doing this month when we normally take a break. We want to do a couple of things with these shows. The first effort at-hand is to amplify Black voices. We must do better about having a more diverse mix of guests on, and right now it's most important for Black voices to be heard.
Gary Ware is a special soul, and the perfect person to have on our first summer bonus episode of Making a Marketer. Culture is being transformed on all levels, and it is requiring allies willing to stand up, wherever we are.
Our guest...
Gary is a sought-after Corporate Facilitator and Keynote Speaker with nearly a decade of experience as performer in improv theatre. He assists teams with unlocking creativity, confidence, and sparks collaboration with experiential methods proven to drive peak performance.
Gary spent over a decade in the corporate world and originally pursued improv to master public speaking. He quickly discovered that combining improv and play could be a powerful solution to achieve various business challenges.
If you are interested in an experiential team-building workshop for your team--reach out to him.
Helping companies make transformations through PLAY -- how cool is that?! Gary Ware is also a TEDx speaker - check it out. And he's helping to head up a San Diego chapter of Culture First. Culture First is an organization created to help "a group of leaders, practitioners, and change agents committed to amplifying what people are capable of being and achieving at work."
As we move forward with the podcast, the Black Lives Matter movement will not be "the" subject, but we will make a conscious effort to have more Black people and other people of color on the show. We had two ROCKSTAR guests on our final episode of season three, which rounds out a truly stellar season where we have learned SO much. Amy Tischler and Caitlin Jenkins of Simply Social Media share all of their micro-influencer knowledge with us.
An event doesn't have to involve a big group of people, and Amy & Caitlin prove that to us. The word "exclusivity" is key, and is central to the idea of the "insta-meets" they have developed for their clients.
Our guests...
Simply Social Media™ is a Santa Fe, New Mexico based influencer and social media marketing agency formed in 2014 by Caitlin E. Jenkins and Amy Tischler. They create community, connection and conversation through influencer & social media marketing.
They offer their clients a unique blend of services including many and varied micro-influencer marketing strategies, social media strategy creation, workshops, and personalized training. What started with their micro-influencer Instagram accounts @SimplySantaFeNM and @TravelNewMexico has now grown into a large influencer network made up of a diverse and talented group of content creators."We're really only limited by our imaginations" is one nugget Amy shared. There's a ton of opportunity with micro-influencer CREATORS. These folks are helping us by providing "user generated content" (UGC) and social proof of the quality of the business or destination we are (or could be!) seeking to support.
These dynamic business partners have created a very unique offering we all can learn from! Creating events around influencers -- regular people, y'all -- can have incredible, lasting impacts for our clients.
Do you have a micro-influencer story to share? We would love to hear it! Reach out to us on our Twitter via a post or a DM.

Without CONTENT, we have nothing to share with our communities, clients, and prospects. Sometimes it can be daunting to figure out what do I post? How should I get it out there? Our guest on this episode felt that way... After she figured it out, she found herself counseling people on how she did it, so she decided to put it all in a book!
Having a framework for how to develop your content takes out the guesswork. A viewer as we broadcast this live even said he can use this framework for his song writing.
Our guest...
Melanie is the founder and Chief Content Officer of StoryFuel, the author of “The Content Fuel Framework: How to Generate Unlimited Story ideas,” and an international keynote speaker recognized as one of the world's leading experts in native advertising and branded content.
As a speaker, she's taught marketers around the globe to brainstorm better, think like journalists and tell better brand stories. She is a member of the National Speakers Association, and has graced the stages of industry-leading events like Content Marketing World, Native Ad Days, Social Media Marketing World, Inbound, SXSW, and more.We also spoke about how to market at at time when the world is going through a crisis (or two) -- she provided some really valuable tips for us as we navigate the challenging waters we're all going through.

Search Engine Optimization - SEO - is amazing and elusive for many! It's a topic most people don't know a ton about, and our guest on this episode shares a ton of knowledge bombs. This is a foundational piece of your marketing strategy, so it should not be over-looked.

We talk ins-and-outs of SEO and TOOLS - "If you don't go out and create your Google My Business, your Facebook Page, your OpenTable profile, they will create them FOR YOU..."

Sometimes a non-profit just drops in your lap & slaps you in the face it's so incredible! I discovered Shelter to Soldier at a VERY important, and perfect, time in my life... Right after my Marine nephew passed away.
This incredible organization rescues dogs from shelters, trains them to be service dogs, and pairs them with post-9/11 combat veterans. They enable these vets to LIVE. And that is not an exaggeration.
Our guests...
Shelter to Soldier also has GREAT marketing, using video in wonderful ways to share their mission through storytelling. I think we can all agree it's a mission worth learning about!
In this "pause" (paws ;-) with Covid-19, they're getting creative and adapting to keep the organization going as STRONG as ever!

Video has been touted as "what's next" for a long, long while now... the truth is it has been and remains a HOT way to communicate with your community, customers, and prospects.
This wasn't intended to be a commercial for Wave, but as a user, I wanted to be sure to talk about it on this episode... plus, any information we can hear about a start-up is useful to learn from.
This conversation about video ended up also being quite a bit about community, empathy, and imperfection.
Our guest...
Daniel is an innovative and internationally experienced CMO with a passion for building data-driven marketing systems that empower creative marketing teams to thrive and perform. Proven strengths in aligning marketing, sales, product, and IT teams to deliver personalized digital customer experiences that create hype. Creative, quick, analytical, and collaborative. Do you think about "pace" when you're creating videos? Whether your videos should be short-form or long-form? You will after you listen to this.

Have you ever been ghosted by a prospect? Andrew & Pete have some incredible tips for how to get through that!
Without question, this show is the most interesting and insightful episode of the 52 we've done so far. Andrew and Pete are HILARIOUS for one, but also they really know what they're talking about... They WILL help you grow your business. Not many people *really* like to sell - we find so many things we can do instead! You'll think about that differently after listening to this.
Our guests...
Andrew Pickering and Pate Gartland - AKA ANDREW AND PETE - are business partners and best friends (after meeting on the first day of University). They live in New Castle, England.
They both always had a passion for business and entrepreneurship, and ambitions to one day rule the world, so when they graduated they decided a "proper job" was not for them… and they set-up their own company. FAST FORWARD TO NOW: ATOMIC The main aim of their business and headline programme ATOMIC is to help other small business owners grow and scale their business online. An ATOMIC business is a small AND mighty business. That's what they believe.... that it's actually better being small, because they can scale their businesses in better ways, whilst keeping the freedom and flexibility that a small business offers us.There are many things that hold us back, and these two help us realize ways to break down some barriers for ourselves and our businesses. They have a Webinar they're offering, which Pete mentions, so we wanted to be sure to share that link with you - How to Generate Leads Through Social Media and Content Marketing. OH, they also have a great book - Content Mavericks.
Andrew mentions VideoAsk by Typeform at the end, so we wanted to share that with you also.

When we scheduled Sarah Evans on episode 51 to talk PR, we had no idea what would be going on in the world. At a time when some are capitalizing on the COVID-19 situation, this show is NOT intended to be focused on that... However, with the seeming blurred lines between Marketing and PR being the topic of the show, it was only natural that we would discuss this with a TRUE PR PROFESSIONAL!
We recorded on Facebook live in the middle of her extremely busy schedule -- Sarah is in the trenches with her clients right now, and she shares her insights and recommendations when it comes to marketing vs PR.
Our guest...
Sarah Evans is a digital strategist and global brand correspondent who works with companies worldwide to create and improve their social and digital strategies, advising on branding, marketing, advertising, and public relations.
Additionally, Sarah is a digital correspondent for several companies including Paypal, Cox Communications, MGM International, WalMart, Shorty Awards and more... Sarah got her start by helping small to midsize businesses build their digital PR efforts. Previously, Sarah worked with a Las Vegas crisis center to raise more than $161,000 in three weeks exclusively via social media, and is honored to be a member of the Guinness Book World Record holding #beatcancer team.
If you've wondered yourself "what is the difference is between marketing and PR?" and how the two should be working in concert, this is the show for YOU. Sarah knows her stuff, and this quick 30-minute show is super insightful.

The way you view influencer marketing will likely change after you listen to this show with Neal Schaffer.
Neal: "I'm introducing the concept of looking at social media not as a place to market, but as a place to collaborate, and let other people do the talking for you."
Our guest...
COLLABORATION is a word that permeates throughout this episode, and you'll understand why.
Neal: "There's this big gap around what marketers know about influencer marketing and what they should know about it, and the potential it has for any business."

Sometimes someone comes along who is asking us to think a bit unconventionally... And when research backs it up, you have yourself a pretty darned good book... That book is Marketing Rebellion, and that author is our episode 46 guest Mark Schaefer!
"The most human company wins" is the subtitle to his most recent book, and our conversation in this show centers in part around the need to be HUMAN in business, and get out and actually TALK to people in this digital age.
Our guest...
Mark’s company offers consulting services, training, corporate workshops, and strategy development with an emphasis in social media, content marketing, and digital marketing strategy.
His services stand out because of his deep experience across many industries, his ability to connect the dots between strategy and reality, and his background in organizational development, which allows him to design strategies that are practical and achievable.
He works with a variety of companies ranging from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups and solo entrepreneurs.
You might think poor quality content is a bad idea... But Mark's take is that "there's a business case for crap." Megan doesn't really agree with him on that, and we have an interesting conversation around it. We do 100% agree marketers need to spend more time face-to-face with our customers!

Guest Dan Gingiss is an absolute pro. His career with customer experience and marketing makes him the perfect guest to speak on this topic!
From his Forbes article: "Customer experience and social media are part of a 'continuous cycle' whereby they each feed the other. Offline experiences are shared online, and then a brand's response – and the learnings it takes from customer interactions – are incorporated back into the experience."
Our guest...
Dan Gingiss Chief Experience Officer at Winning Customer Experience, LLC As a Forbes contributor, he writes about how a remarkable customer experience can be your best marketing. Dan teaches audiences and businesses how to make the brand lovers louder than the haters by creating experiences they can’t wait to share with their friends and followers. Demian Ross - Demian was with us on Episode 21 - on being a Digital Nomad
Road to 1,000 - Rootless Lifestyle - Plan D
Demian is currently a Digital Nomad, and has been traveling the country in a 42-foot fifth wheel since June of 2017... and has logged more than 40,000+ miles.
When he started this road trip he was working at Social Media Examiner as part of the sales team for Social Media Marketing World, and decided he needed a creative outlet... So he came up with an idea to record 300 videos in 365 days. He called the series "ROAD TO 300"… And after recording 300 videos in a row he decided to stretch the series to the "ROAD TO 1000" and is was on DAY 583 in a row when we recorded this show.
Since the last time he was with us, Demian started a lifestyle brand called ROOTLESS LIVING with the goal to help teach and inspire people to embrace the digital nomad lifestyle. He also has a podcast called PLAN D where he talks about his struggles to start a company while living on the road.
He's also the proud father of 4 adult humans.
Do "subs" matter? Why do we care about vanity metrics? How can you be so consistent on one platform, and not on others? He is doing a lot, and has so much more in store. If you aren't motivated by this show, we will be shocked. Get ready to learn AND laugh.

Marketing a Podcast is key to growing your show's visibility, like any product you're bringing to market. How you market will vary depending on your niche, your success, your whatever... for sure many of us can do a better job at it! Not only is Bella a *firecracker* who drops a TON of knowledge bombs on us in this episode, but she also gives stacks of shout-outs to people in the industry who are doing it RIGHT.
Our guest...
The way she looks at Facebook Groups is different than you might. And her skill at carrying a metaphor throughout the bulk of this episode is UNMATCHED! It's unlikely you'll think of Facebook Groups the same again.
While co-host Jen Cole commented in the chat while recording this episode "totally felt like a chill out sesh," we guarantee you will learn and laugh. No question!
If Pet Marketing is your thing, this show is for you too, as we start out talking about her evolution as a successful business owner in that space… and she's a resource for you (still) if you want to join her Mastermind to help you improve your business.
Be sure to listen through to the end to learn what tech/gadgets/apps she’s recommending these days. Grab yourself a beverage and *hold on* for episode 35, as it's our second to last show in Season 2 & it moves fast!

As I listened back to Ep. 34 I kept writing down nugget quotes from our guest Jessika Phillips!
You'll have to listen to hear most of them, but one that stood out to me is this: "It's not selling, it's serving"
Our guest...
Relationship marketing and relationship sales are very closely tied, and the crux of it is that we all have a sense of belonging, and connecting with people who are similar is something we all desire. We talk about this, in addition to what coaching can do for your self & career, and about Social Media Week Lima 2019!
Check out this quick show, chock-full of GOOD stuff.

On Episode 33 our guest Dahlia El Gazzar shares her unique perspective based on the work her team does with event organizers.
Our guest...
Some shows are simultaneously hard to describe, and at the same time we could go on and on… this is one of those. Dahlia and Megan, along with the viewers, share so many marketing insights and tips on this one in 31-short minutes.
"It's less about bandwidth and more about brain width..." is just one nugget of a quote from Dahlia when asked why many event organizers still haven't fully embraced social media. She also says "it's not their fault."
Give this quick one a listen - we promise you’ll learn something no matter your level of expertise (always our goal, by the way)!

In Episode 32 we get real about incentivizing people. If you think incentive trips are a "boondoggle," you are wrong. Dead wrong!
It's incredible what the research shows incentives do for both the bottom line of your business AND the CULTURE. It isn't just about the sales team either if that's what you're thinking... this is a marketing tool that works both internally and externally for businesses that we should all know more about.

In Episode 31 we are live on Facebook, speaking to someone who has made crisis communication a key area he is speaking and teaching on.
It's marketing's responsibility to share out information if a crisis occurs. Period. With the emergence of social media, that is now a key place to share it… And you MUST have a plan in order to do it properly!
Our guest...
Alex Plaxen has a Crisis Communication Certification he's teaching for Meeting Professionals International, so he was the perfect guest to have to speak on this topic.

In episode 30 we dive into... how do you make sure your event marketing spend produces real results? Creating an experience takes more than blinky lights. Your attendees need to feel something and achieve their goals (or your goals) for the event. We define experiential events and explore topics such as mindfulness, engaging all five senses, empathy for attendees, and making sponsorships more valuable to the sponsors and participants.
There are lots of ways to transform your events, and we explore them all on this show. Our guests are talented event designers and we’re excited to share their knowledge with you.

For more on mindfulness and events, listen to this podcast where our co-host, Elizabeth Glau, was a guest.

The term "Influencer Marketing" has been very hot, especially in light of the Fyre Festival documentaries bringing it to the forefront! The thing is, as our guests on episode 29 share with us, there should be a distinction between an influencer and an endorser. Have you heard the term "Key Opinion Leader"? We cover that too.
There are all sorts of levels of influence, and we explore them all on this show. Our three guests are inspirational women working within the meetings and events industry.
Our guests...
"I think in our day-to-day lives, ordinary people (ordinary attendees who are members of their own networks and communities) are genuine influencers." -Tamar

Many professionals continue to work a "day job" while also building their own personal brand... while also having a "side-hustle."
Our guest on this show is doing just that! He has a job he loves running marketing for a start-up called Talkative, while at the same time he has a podcast, he has a Personal Branding Story he launched last year, AND he's writing a book that's set to be released SOONEST!
It is possible to do both, and Ben Roberts gives us some great tips on how to manage.
Our guest...
If managing your own personal brand is something you can use help with, or you're considering a side-hustle, this episode is for you especially.

Facebook advertising is necessary, and our guest on episode 27 is an industry expert on the topic. He’s an “in demand” speaker at the top social media marketing conferences, and it’s because he knows his stuff.
Our guest...
More than anything, what’s clear on this episode is that it's crucial to test, test, test… optimize.... tweak… and test some more! It's Azriel's feeling that the ability to advertise on Facebook is easier than it used to be, and he gives us some great knowledge bombs our hosts were furiously notetaking on!

The Cannabis market is still in its infancy, with makers and marketers alike trying to strike while the proverbial iron is hot!
Here's the catch: there are a ton of federal limitations because, although it might be 100% legal in your state, the federal government still considers it a crime to grow and sell cannabis. This makes banking and compliance with advertising quite tricky!
Our guest...
Compliance to FCC regulations and more make this a vertical of marketing that requires some support and research. Kendra's been doing the work, and this 30-minute show gives us a taste of getting started.
