The Run: Alias 1-28 Mara and Matt discuss Marvel's roughest private investigators with Brian Michael Bendis' and Michael Gaydos' Alias. This run not only introduces us to Jessica Jones, but gives us a peek at a very different time in Marvel. While Bendis had already made a name for himself with books like Daredevil and Ultimate Spider-Man, Alias was for a lot of readers their first introduction to his noir adult roots. This series is as fun as it can be thought-provoking and challenging.

The Run: Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. #1-12 It's like Shakespeare, but with lots more punching. Melissa Megan joins us as we take a look at Warren Ellis and Stuart Immonen's Nextwave Agent's of H.A.T.E. This series follows a collection of offbeat Marvel rejects as they experience one of the satirical comic book stories of all time. It's one of those perfect moments where the artist, writer, editor, and Marvel Comics are all in on the joke, and for 12 issues, its a heck of a joke too.

The Run: Deadpool 1-33, -1, 0, Daredevil/ Deadpool Annual '97, Deadpool and Death Annual '98, and Baby's First Deadpool Book In this episode Mara and Matt look at the run that made The Merc with the Mouth who he is today, Joe Kelly's Deadpool. What surprised us the most is how many of the characteristics associated with Deadpool, and are attributed to this run, are downplayed and how subtle, dark and complicated Kelly's character work actually is. It's hard to be both enduring and disturbing, but Kelly finds a way to balance it masterfully. Along with art and subtext that was a highlight during one of the more lackluster periods on Marvel's publishing history, Kelly's Deadpool is an excellent example of what our show is about.

The Run: Amazing Spider-Man #298–323, 325, 328; Spider-Man 1-14, 16 This episode we are joined by Ty Watson from The Delay of Game Podcast and Level Select. A lot of people heavily criticize Marvel in the 90s and much of what that comes from a style that McFarlane popularized on The Amazing Spider-Man. We try to pinpoint that criticism and also look at what is redeemable (and there is a lot) from what remains to be a significant contribution to the Spidey mythos.

The Run: Squadron Supreme #1-12, Captain America #314 and Squadron Supreme: Death of a Universe Graphic Novel This episode we are joined by Talking Comic's own Bob Reyer. Before The Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen, there was Mark Gruenwald's Squadron Supreme. Considered the best Justice League book Marvel ever put out, and some would say better than what DC was offering, this post modern book asks how terrible would it be if super heroes were put in charge of our lives. The answer is simple: it would be awful. Groundbreaking, controversial, underappreciated, classic. A few words to describe this Legendary Run.

Matt and Mara take a look at one of the most appreciated runs on Wonder Woman. Battling through mythology and personal struggles, this run is one that focuses on what's going on within the character as much as it is on what is happening around her. For a character that is historically on another level, this is no small feat. All of this is complimented with excellent art from the likes of Terry Dodson, Aaron Lopresti and Nicola Scott.

Matt and Mara go from one teenage super group to another with Geoff Johns' version of Teen Titans. Taking cues from the seminal run of Wolfman and Perez, Johns puts Impulse, Robin (Tim Drake), Superboy (Conner Kent/ Kon-El), Wonder Girl (Cassandra Sandsmark) with the classic Titans Starfire, Cyborg, Beast Boy and Raven. There are many adventures involving time travel and identity issues ahead leading to the somber events of Infinite Crisis. It's a long run, but a great one!

Brian Keohan joins us for our last episode of X-Artist Month on Legendary Runs! Bill Sienkiewicz's brief tenure on New Mutants shook the comic's industry to it's artistic core. Sienkiewicz brought energy into the X-teen book with his advant garde style that made the secondary X-Men book at times more interesting than it's popular flag ship. In just 14 issues Claremont and Sienkiewicz crafted two of the most beloved stories in New Mutants, The Demon Bear and Legion and made readers fall in love with Magma, Cannonball, Sunspot, Magik, Warlock and Wolfsbane.
