There were plenty of other terrible SCOTUS decisions handed down this term, and we take a look at a few of them. The Washington Post summarized it best - "The emboldened 6-3 conservative majority, with three nominees of President Donald Trump, wasted little time expanding the rights of gun owners to carry firearms in public, strengthening the role of religion in public life and sharply curtailing the Biden administration’s power to combat climate change." Conservatives have the court they've been dreaming of (and planning for) for 50 years. It's going to get worse.

The dreaded day has come. The landmark Supreme Court case granting women the constitutional right to an abortion, Roe v. Wade, has been overturned after nearly 50 years. It was a 6-3 decision written by Justice Alito. This overtly political decision has ominous implications for not only for reproductive health access, but for constitutional protections for contraceptives, gay marriage, and intimate sexual conduct. It's a dark fucking time to be a woman or person with a uterus in the United States.

We discuss the continued fallout from last Tuesday's mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. The more we learn about the police's inept response the worse it gets. There were police on the scene within minutes and outside the classroom door for nearly an hour before intervention, despite repeated calls from the children from inside the classroom. It is unfathomable how such a disconnect managed to persist for this hour. On Tuesday a gunman murdered 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Last week a shooter murdered 10 people in a grocery store in Buffalo, New York. No meaningful gun control has been passed in the nearly 25 years since Columbine. How much senseless violence has to occur before lawmakers actually do something? We process the news that the worst case scenario is upon us. The Supreme Court is most likely going to fully overturn 50 years of precedent and overturn Roe v. Wade and we are gutted, devastated and furious. Justice Alito's 98 page majority draft opinion leaked on Monday, and was verified Tuesday by Chief Justice Roberts. We understand this is a draft and things could change, but they probably won't. Proceed accordingly.

We're still furious about the rolling back of abortion rights so we're getting deeper into it today.  We discuss the Supreme Court's 5-4 decision to let the law stand for now, despite it being clearly unconstitutional and encouraging vigilante justice. We are enraged, frustrated, gutted (insert all the negative adjectives) at the new Texas law that went into effect today banning abortions after 6 weeks, well before most women even know they're pregnant. This law is unconstitutional on its face, and yet SCOTUS hasn't blocked it. We get into the other devastating, insidious aspects of this law, which allows private citizens to act as vigilantes and sue anyone "aiding and abetting" an abortion - from the front desk administrator at a women's health clinic to the Uber driver transporting her. It's fucked up on every level, and not how the legal system in this country is designed to work, and also just plain unconstitutional. Rage, rage, rage. Last week Britney Spears addressed the court directly for the first time regarding her conservatorship. Her testimony was devastating. If something this unjust is happening to one of the most prominent superstars in the world, there are certainly more abuses of conservatorship happening to those with less power and visibility. We discuss the updates to the case since our February episode (Ep 119: Free Britney), and hope Britney's case will spur legislators to re-examine conservatorship laws and enact much stricter oversight for such an oppressive legal arrangement.

It’s the last full day of Trump’s presidency!!!!!!!!! We have a lot of feelings and cannot wait for this era to be officially over tomorrow. Our fitting sendoff for 45 is that we're going to ignore him and discuss the new film, Promising Young Woman, written and directed by Emerald Fennell and starring Carey Mulligan. The worst breach of the Capitol in two centuries, an armed violent, seditious mob attempting to overturn a free and fair election, directly incited by the current president. People died. The country is shaken. It's a global embarrassment. It's a lot to make sense of, and certainly more than can be summarized in brief show notes.

He hasn't conceded, but he's lost 39 court cases and there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
