The drama in the Motley Crue camp just continues to heat up. Between Mick Mars' lawsuit, Nikki Sixx's disparaging response, Carmine Appice getting into the action, and the potential for new music from the band, there's a lot to cover. We share our take on this situation.
KISS' End of the Road tour continues to roll on but not without some speed bumps. In a recent show, Gene Simmons had to take a seat during the band's set due to dehydration. We discuss our thoughts on where things stand with the band and what the future may hold.
Dolly Parton recently welcomed Nikki Sixx as a guest on her upcoming rock album. We share our thoughts on the non-creative song list for this upcoming project.
Some good news in the Soundgarden world, as the dispute between Chris Cornell's widow and the surviving band members appears to have been settled.
Other stories covered this week include Cherie Currie's thoughts on the slim chance of a Runaways reunion, Ozzy Osbourne looking rough, Blackie Lawless fighting back issues, Mr. Big potentially recording new music, Richie Blackmore and Deep Purple reunion rumors, new Great White music, and much more!

We're back with all the latest happenings in the rock and metal world with Geekwire!
Tragically, one person died and several were injured at a recent Morbid Angel show outside of Chicago. We discuss this sad situation and are sending good vibes to the people affected.
Chris recently ventured to the theater to see the Neil Bogart biopic 'Spinning Gold.' Did it accurately portray Neil and the Casablanca Records story? Was it a mess of factual inaccuracies? Above all else, was it worth a watch? Chris gives his full review of the movie.
Sebastian Bach recently pranked Skid Row fans by claiming a deluxe edition of 'Subhuman Race' was being released. Did this work as an April Fool's day gag? We give our thoughts.
Other stories covered this week include Vinnie Vincent bringing Marq Torien on board for his next event in Nashville, Vivian Campbell professing his love for Phil Lynott, Udo Dirkschneider claiming his current band is more authentic than ACCEPT, and more.
We also touch on the recent Ace Frehley and KISS drama (this was recorded before his recent followup interview).

We're back with a great talk with a great guest as comedian Craig Gass joins us for The Best & Worst of Guns N Roses!
Formed on the Sunset Strip in 1985, Guns N Roses quickly ascended to the top of the rock world with their debut album 'Appetite for Destruction.' Along with the success would come controversy as the band truly lived the rock star lifestyle. The combustible mix of attitude, agression, talent, and addiction made the band stand out from their peers. Even their stripped down look would signal to the music scene that times were changing. The band would go on to release the massive 'Use Your Illusion' parts 1 and 2 and graduate to stadium tours. But, just as quickly as they rose, the band started to fall apart. Members leaving one by one would cause a long dormant period for the band while singer Axl Rose labored over his opus 'Chinese Democracy.' By the time the album finally was released, it did more to confuse fans than excite them. Guns N Roses have found new success in recent years with the return of guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan.
In this discussion, we pick our favorite and least favorite track from each album. Additionally, we share our stories of how the band first came on our radar as well as our memories of each album. Craig Gass brings some great stories to the table as he's had multiple interactions with the band members going back to nearly the beginning. It's a fun talk about a very intriguing band.
We hope you enjoy The Best & Worst with Guns N Roses with Craig Gass and SHARE with a friend!

We're back for the second half of our 2 part series on the Best & Worst of Metallica! This time, we're joined by our friend and fellow podcaster Joshua Toomey to cover the latter half of the kings of thrash career as we focus on 1996 through today.
Riding high on the success of The Black Album, Metallica returned in 1996 with Load and Reload a year later. The band had a new look and a new, stripped down sound. While the changes didn't necessarily resonate with their hardcore fans, it opened the band to a new audience and success continued. They would continue to change with the release of St. Anger before returning to an earlier sound with Death Magnetic. However, they'd take a huge left turn courtesy of the collaboration with Lou Reed in Lulu. Righting the ship, they'd release Hardwired...to Self Destruct to the joy of their fan base. In 2022, they'd give fans a glimpse of the future with the release of the single 'Lux Aeterna.' This release would coincide with the announcement of their next album '72 Seasons' as well as a huge tour with Pantera to come in 2023 and 2024.
In this discussion, the guys pick their favorite and least favorite tune off each album, give their thoughts on the ever-changing sound of the band during these years and state their hopes for the next album. Additionally, they discuss singles, EP releases, and cover songs released during this period.

This week we begin a mega two part series as we look at The Best & Worst of Metallica! In this episode, we're joined by fellow podcaster Metal Mike Tyler from That Metal Station & The Plug podcast. This time, we're focusing on the formative years of the bay area legends.
Metallica broke onto the scene in 1983 with the release of 'Kill Em All.' The melding of punk and NWOBHM influences created a bombastic new sound that would create the genre of thrash metal. The band wouldn't slow down; releasing 'Ride the Lightning' in 1984. In 1986, the band would unleash 'Master of Puppets' on a ravenous fan base.
While riding high on the momentum of their first three albums, Metallica would encounter tragedy on the road as bassist Cliff Burton was killed in a bus crash in Sweden. The band would quickly regroup and recruit former Flotsam and Jetsam bassist Jason Newsted. Metallica would work out the kinks on 1987's 'The 5.98 EP: Garage Days Re-Revisited' before launching a full scale assault on the ears with 1988's '...And Justice for All.' The release of the 'One' single and music video would elevate the band into the public eye.
In 1991, the ascendancy would be complete with the release of 'Metallica,' better known simply as The Black Album. The simplified direction didn't exactly please die-hard fans but certainly earned the band superstar status.
In this episode, the guys will discuss their history of becoming Metallica fans, reminisce on their experiences as fans, and each pick what they deem the best and worst song from each album of this era.
What are YOUR picks for the best and worst songs from each album? Let us know in the comments below!

We all remember getting the annual Wish Book from the department store and drooling over all the cool stuff we wanted from Santa each year. The modern day equivalent to that these days is eBay. You can literally find just about anything on there.
With the holiday season now in full swing, this week we take a look through eBay for some of the highest priced rock and metal offerings from our favorite bands. We find some amazing stuff, some interesting stuff, and even some truly disturbing items. We cover everything from stage used items from Alice Cooper and Brad Whitford to hand-written setlists from Alice in Chains to an Aerosmith crew ashtray to strange items relating to Sebastian Bach and Jon Bon Jovi. There's even a car owned by John Bonham!
In this episode you'll hear out takes on some awesome items that we'd love to find under the tree this Christmas. If you've got a special rock fan in mind this holiday season and some money to burn, this might be a great guide for your shopping list.

We've got a new name but the same, goofy news coverage as we present Geekwire! As per usual, we're covering all the rock and metal news that you care about.
Starting things off is our announcement of Keelfest as a part of ROCKNPOD weekend in March of 2023. We go over the lineup and much more. If you haven't yet, get your tickets, VIP, podcast registration and more at www.rocknpod.com
Ex-Iron Maiden singer Paul Dianno has recently clarified a statement he made about Steve Harris. Eric Martin is hinting that new things from Mr. Big might be on the way. Other stories discussed include Zakk Wylde learning Pantera tunes, KISS getting slammed on a Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame list, Sharon Osbourne bashing Bruce Dickinson, and Metallica paying an amazing tribute to Jonny and Marsha Zazula.
As always, Aaron brings you up to date or rock birthdays, death anniversaries, and notable upcoming releases.

Every now and then we like to challenge ourselves. Our Best & Worst series has become a listener-favorite. Many times, we focus on the glory years of a band. But, NOT today!
For as massive as Motley Crue was in the 1980's, the years beyond that have been a study in contrasts. After a decade of churning out memorable, fist-pumping arena rock anthems, the new decade of the 90's was a battle for the legendary Hollywood band.
The 1990's started strong with the release of 'Decade of Decadence.' However, the dismissal of front man Vince Neil would signify a big fall from the top. The self-titled 1994 album showed off a new side to the band with their new addtion, John Corabi. However, commercial success would elude them. This would force the return of Vince Neil and an album that did more to confuse fans than excite them in 'Generation Swine.'
Since then, only one full release 'Saints of Los Angeles' has been issued along with several greatest hits compilations, soundtracks, and singles that provided a smattering of new material.
In this episode, we go through all of these releases including the one-off singles of recent years. Did we find some diamonds in the rough or will this be tough sledding? You'll have to listen to find out.
We hope you enjoy (as best you can) The Best & Worst of Motley Crue 1990 & Beyond and SHARE with a friend!

Skid Row's Erik Gronwall stated in a recent interview that some fans coming to the shows think that Sebastian Bach is still fronting the band. We discuss how prevalent this actually is among bands and general ticket buyers as well as how quickly Bas' head must have exploded after hearing about this.

What a long, strange trip it's been. When we got together in 2011, we couldn't have envisioned that we'd still be doing this over 11 years later. Moreover, we never expected to have made the connections, friendships, and memories that will serve us for the rest of our lives.
In this mega-long episode, we share drinks, stories, memories and more as we look back on 500 episodes of Decibel Geek. From the theme shows to the interviews to the behind the scenes stories, we covered a lot of ground. It was heartening to take a moment to remember the stories, the people, and the response to these episodes. We discuss a lot of behind the scenes stories from over the years including the now-infamous April Fool's episode that got mixed reviews at the time.
Additionally, we hear from several friends that are listeners and podcasters who graciously provided great feedback and audio clips. It was a blast to hear from you all. We don't take the friendships and listenership lightly. While we've entertained you, you've done even more for us over the years and it's appreciated.
While this is a very long, rambling talk, we hope you enjoy our look back at 500 episodes of the Decibel Geek podcast and SHARE with a friend!

Troy Luccketta recently mentioned that he's unsure if he'll return to the drum seat for Tesla. We give our thoughts on the situation.
New and upcoming releases by Enuff Z'nuff and Iron Maiden are among those discussed this week as well as rock star birthdays and death days.
Falling in Reverse recently cancelled a show due to the loss of a couple of laptop computers. Could the band have gone on without them? Is this becoming a problem or just the new normal for live performance? We share our take.
Other topics covered this week include half of Motley Crue performing at the Taylor Hawkins tribute show in LA, Sebastian Bach making an ill-timed joke at the same show, drama between Acey Slade and Wednesday 13, WASP announcing meet and greets for their tour, and Dave Mustaine hoping to write with James Hetfield again.

We're back this week for another Best & Worst episode; this time we're tackling the catalog of White Lion.
White Lion, formed in New York in the early 1980's, featured all the ingredients that a band needed to propel them to stardom. Led by Danish-born front man Mike Tramp and the virtuosity of guitarist Vito Bratta, the band had the hooks, mind-bending guitar solos, and looks that were required to make it big in the 1980's.
White Lion would start to build a following in the New York and New Jersey areas culminating with the release of 1985's debut album 'Fight to Survive.' After dealing with record company politics that would cause the album to be released overseas first before it was available in America, the band failed to hit it big but would garner attention in the rock press.
With 1987's sophomore release 'Pride,' the band hit pay dirt. Produced by the legendary Michael Wagener, the album was replete with arena rock tunes that seemed a perfect fit for radio play. Once the single for 'Wait' hit MTV, the band's profile rose quickly. The release of power ballad 'When the Children Cry' catapulted the band to new heights.
1989's 'Big Game' album saw the band team up with Wagener again to continued success. The single 'Little Fighter' did well at radio and also showed listeners that White Lion wasn't going to shy away from heavy subject-matter. Other songs like 'If My Mind is Evil' and 'Cry for Freedom' cemented that point. The juxtaposition of the bands' image combined with their willingness to break out of the 'party-rock' trend of lyrical content certainly was a contrast to other bands of the day.
By 1991, the tides of popular rock music were shifting, making the release of 'Mane Attraction' a possible victim of circumstance. The album is every bit as eclectic as it's predecessor; but was it to a fault?
We talk about all of these releases this week and share our thoughts on the songs, the playing, the direction of the band and more. We also pick our favorite and least-favorite song from each album.
We hope you enjoy The Best & Worst of White Lion and SHARE with a friend!

This week we're joined by fellow podcasters Joshua Toomey and Chris Akin as we go over The Best & Worst of Pantera!
With the Texas metal legends making news recently with the reunion of Philip Anselmo and Rex Brown along with drummer Charlie Benante and guitarist Zakk Wylde, we figured it's as good a time as any to look back on this incredible band's musical catalog.
Starting with 1990's 'Cowboys from Hell,' Pantera blazed a whole new path for thrash and metal music. The Abbott brothers; Vinny Paul and Dimebag Darrell, cemented their place in music history and begun a run with Anselmo and Brown that hasn't been equalled. The subsequent releases 'Vuglar Display of Power,' 'Far Beyond Driven,' 'The Great Southern Trendkill,' and 'Reinventing the Steel' helped the band lay claim as one of the most influential metal bands of all-time.
In this long-form discussion, we all share our thoughts on these albums, tell stories of how they personally affected us, and a lot more while picking our favorite and least favorite from each album. This was no easy task but we think you'll enjoy it. We also discuss the 101 Proof Live album as well as some of the b-sides and rarities that Pantera churned out over the years.
We hope you enjoy The Best & Worst of Pantera and SHARE with a friend! Check out Chris Akin and Joshua Toomey on the Talk Toomey Podcast presented by Knotfest as well as The Classic Metal Show at CMSPN.com

We're back to discuss all the current happenings in the rock and metal world with New Noize Weekly!
The past few weeks have been like KISSmas for die-hard fans of the Hottest Band in the Land as a treasure trove of unreleased KISS footage spilled out onto Youtube. The uploader, using the moniker 'Sam Loomis,' appears to be a disgruntled purchaser of the material and points the finger at a well-known KISS fan and author. We're not sure of who or what really led to the release of these videos but we're certainly happy we got to see them.
A big loss to the KISS world (and rock at large) took place recently with the passing of producer Michael James Jackson. Known by many for his stellar work on the 'Creatures of the Night' and 'Lick it Up' albums, he more than left his mark in KISS fan circles. We share our thoughts on his passing as well as his career.
Some big news came out of the Alice Cooper camp recently with the exit of guitarist Nita Strauss and the return of Kane Roberts. Nita left to join Demi Lovato's touring band and Kane's return gives us all hope that more material from his era will be featured in the live setlist. We discuss Nita's departure as well as Kane's return. What do you think about it? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
Van Halen was back in the news recently in a couple of stories; both relating to David Lee Roth. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Wolfgang Van Halen explains that the long-anticipated Eddie Van Halen tribute concert has been put on ice due to difficulties with 'a certain person.' It doesn't take a genius to figure out who he's talking about. We share our thoughts on all of this stuff.
One of the biggest stories of the past few weeks was the announcement of the Pantera reunion that's set to take place in 2023. This has caused a firestorm of response; both good and bad. With the additional announcement of Charlie Benante and Zakk Wylde being recruited to replace the dearly-departed Abbott brothers, it's added a new dimension to the situation. We share our feelings on this controversial upcoming tour. We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments section below.
Other topics covered this week include news on the new Skid Row single, the upcoming Rob Zombie 'Munsters' movie, David Draiman from Disturbed losing his mind, and Tim 'Ripper' Owens feeling snubbed in regards to the Judas Priest Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame nomination.

This week we're upping the irons as we pick The Best & Worst of 80's Iron Maiden! Joining us for this talk is Chris Dunnett of Powerslave (The Iron Maiden Experience). Chris has been a die-hard Iron Maiden fan since the early days. His fandom has led him on a cool path that includes not only his great tribute band but two opportunities to actually appear on stage with Iron Maiden themselves!
In this episode, we're focusing on the formative years of the band. We start with the two Paul Di'Anno-fronted albums Iron Maiden (1980) and Killers (1981). From there, we go over the Bruce Dickinson era including Number of the Beast (1982), Piece of Mind (1983), Powerslave (1984), Somewhere in Time (1986), and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (1988). For each of these albums, we'll share our thoughts and memories on them and pick what we think are the best and worst tracks. Will we agree? Will we disagree and start yelling at each other? Will our picks infuriate you? You'll have to listen to find out!
We also cover the upcoming Powerslave/Rock United show taking place this weekend at Bowies in Nashville. It's gonna be a great night of rock and metal music.
What are YOUR favorite/least favorite tracks from the 80's Iron Maiden albums? List your choices in the comments below!

We're back to cover all the most important, noteworthy, and ridiculous recent rock news with New Noize Weekly.
The Stadium Tour featuring Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Poison, and Joan Jett kicked off recently. We break down all the happenings and controversy including Tommy Lee's rib injury, Vince Neil's vocals, Def Leppard's new songs, and Poison taking things up a notch.
KISS found themselves mired in a bit of controversy at their concert in Antwerp, Belgium as their use of vocal tracks got exposed due to some timing errors. We talk about the coverage it received.
Kingdom Come's recent performance at Sweden Rock drew the wrong kind of attention as James Kottak's drumming was very off-kilter. Additionally, a bass solo that was, shall we say, memorable was performed. We talk about James Kottak's current state, the rumors of his substance abuse, and his recent explanation.
Ugly Kid Joe had a busy week; releasing the first single for their upcoming album as well as having a band member arrested in California. We share our thoughts on the new track and hopes for their future.
Other topics touched on this week include the Taylor Hawkins tribute concerts, ACCEPT hitting the road in the U.S., a cool upcoming Cheap Trick book, two new Alice Cooper albums, and much more!
We hope you enjoy New Noize Weekly and SHARE with a friend!

This week we're taking a deep dive into the discography of one of rock's most polarizing bands as we discuss The Best & Worst of Poison!
Initially called Paris and formed in Mechanicsburg, PA, the band headed west for Los Angeles; landing on the burgeoning Sunset Strip scene. Quickly gaining popularity for their over-the-top look and relentless promotion, Poison became one of the must-see acts in Hollywood. With the release of 1986's 'Look What the Cat Dragged In,' the band scored hits with singles 'Talk Dirty to Me,' 'I Want Action,' and 'I Won't Forget You.' Superstardom would come next with 1988's 'Open Up and Say...Ahh!' release which resulted in chart positions for 'Fallen Angel,' 'Your Mama Don't Dance,' and the mega-ballad 'Every Rose Has It's Thorn.'
The 90's would start strong on the release of 'Flesh and Blood' but everything was about to change. The exit of guitarist C.C. DeVille, entrance of Richie Kotzen, and change of sound on 1992's 'Native Tongue,' combined with the rise of grunge music, saw Poison's fortune change for the worse. Kotzen would be replaced by guitarist Blues Saraceno on the great, but shelved, album 'Crack a Smile' before DeVille returned a few years later. Since 2000, product from Poison has been sporadic but the band does still do well on the touring circuit; currently on the road with Motley Crue, Def Leppard, and Joan Jett.
In this episode we take a spin through the whole Poison catalog and pick out our favorite and least favorite tracks. Did we get it right? Are we way off in our assessment? You tell us in the comments as well as YOUR picks for this episode.
We hope you enjoy The Best & Worst of Poison and SHARE with a friend!

Since no other podcast has done it, we're back this week to review the recent Creatures Fest event that took place in Nashville. Yes, we're totally being sarcastic. A lot of our friends in the podcast world attended this KISS-related event over Memorial Day weekend and Aaron Camaro was no exception. This is a special free episode of The Torpedo Dudes; a KISS podcast from Decibel Geek that appears exclusively on Patreon. If you like what you here and want to hear more, subscribe to be a DBG VIP at www.patreon.com/decibelgeek. You'll get future episodes as well as over 100 hours of archived material.
This event was headlined by former KISS members Ace Frehley, Peter Criss, Bruce Kulick, and Vinnie Vincent. Rounding out the lineup were rock mainstays such as Enuff Z'nuff, Vixen, and Pretty Boy Floyd as well as younger talent such as Kore Rozzik and Sisters Doll. Additionally, several special events took place including performances by Kuarantine, Minefield, an All Star jam, and an Unplugged pool party. Throw in vinyl and merch vendors as well as meet and greets and it seems like a cool event for KISS fans. So, did it live up to the hype?
In this episode, Aaron shares his thoughts and memories on Creatures Fest from the atmosphere to the vendors, to the guests and, especially, the performances. Ace Frehley and Peter Criss reunited on stage for one of the nights, Bruce Kulick headlined the closing ceremonies but it was Vinnie Vincent's performance that seemed to grab the most attention; for a variety of reasons. What were our thoughts? You'll have to listen to find out. You'll get the on-the-ground review from Aaron and Chris gives his take from the peanut gallery (ie. Youtube videos).

We're back to talk about all the notable current rock happenings with New Noize Weekly for the week of June 7, 2022!
Aerosmith recently cancelled several dates of their upcoming Las Vegas residency due to singer Steven Tyler checking into rehab. We discuss this sad development as well as our thoughts on the current state of the band.
On the heels of the recent passing of Cynthia Plaster Caster, the famous cast of Jimi Hendrix's um, member, was recently put on display at Iceland's Penis Museum. Yes, this is a real story. We never expected to cover a story like this but here we are.
A couple of very big auctions recently took place. One yielded the sale of Kurt Cobain's guitar from the 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' video for over 4 million dollars. Another notable rock auction featuring items from late Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul took place. We go over some of the items up for auction and share our thoughts.
Other stories covered this week include the upcoming autobiography from WASP's Blackie Lawless, feuding between current and former members of ACCEPT, drama between Yngwie Malmsteen and Jeff Scott Soto, Bret Michaels bandana folding tips, new releases from Dio and Queensryche, a controversial Rolling Stone article on the last days of Taylor Hawkins and much more.

This week we return to the classroom as they go On Assignment for the 1979 self-titled release by New England. This time our teacher is Dennis Talbott from the Ages of Rock podcast. If you don't know, Ages of Rock is a fantastic music discussion show that you should check out. Dennis has plenty of reasons why he assigned us this record. He bought it as a new release and has since purchased over 20 copies! Say what?! Would we feel the same enthusiasm for this album as Dennis? You'll have to listen and find out! We give each song an A-F grade as well.
New England featured band leader guitarist/vocalist John Fannon, drummer Hirsh Gardner, bassist Gary Shea and keyboardist Jimmy Waldo. The group was best known for the song "Don't Ever Wanna Lose Ya", which received heavy radio exposure on Album-oriented rock (AOR) stations and reached the US Top 40 in 1979. "Hello, Hello, Hello" also received some airplay.
The quartet formed in the Boston area and was discovered by manager Bill Aucoin, who also managed Kiss. Paul Stanley helped produce the debut album along with producer Mike "Clay" Stone, best known for his work with Queen and Asia. Guitarist and vocalist John Fannon was the leader of the band.
The group had a live stint supporting Kiss, but New England slid between the cracks of other Aucoin projects. The group's success stalled when their label Infinity Records was absorbed by its parent company, MCA Records.
Gardner, Waldo, and Shea would go on to work with a then-unknown Vincent Cusano on a project dubbed Warrior before disbanding due to Cusano being brought into the KISS fold to replace guitarist Ace Frehley. Waldo and Shea would then go on to help form Alcatrazz.
We hope you enjoy our On Assignment episode discussing New England and SHARE with a friend!

We're back to talk current rock news with the weekly edition of New Noize as we close out May of 2022! There's lots to get to so let's get going!
A less-than-credible source has stated that Motley Crue are doing rehearsals with Vince Neil's son in case dear old dad isn't up to the task of the upcoming Stadium Tour. Is this a nothingburger or could there be something to it? We share our thoughts.
The tongue-meister himself, Gene Simmons, recently made waves at a KISS soundcheck in Hartford, CT as he donned a bath robe (with nothing under it) in front of fans that paid to be in attendance. Chris made a simple joke post on Facebook for laughs and all hell broke loose. We address the God of Slumber as well as some choice comments from the post on social media.
Mental health came to the forefront in a couple of recent stories including the recent death of Black Dhalia Murder's Trevor Strnad as well as an out-of-character moment onstage between Metallica's James Hetfield and his band mates. We talk about both stories as well as share our thoughts on mental health struggles.
Def Leppard's Joe Elliott recently made headlines calling their upcoming 'Diamond Star Halos' album "career defining" as well as comparing it to some pretty legendary releases by other groups. A few songs have been released so far. We each share our thoughts on what's been released as well as our expectations for the new album.
Other stories covered this week include KK Downing getting the green light for the upcoming Judas Priest Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame induction, Spinal Tap finally doing a sequel, and the online original music competition show by Hit Parader called 'No Cover.'

This week Eric Dover joins us to discuss Slash's Snakepit's 1995 release 'It's Five O'Clock Somewhere.'
In 1995, Guns N' Roses were one of the biggest bands in the world; yet one of the most divided. Ongoing tensions between the members of the band would lead to constant delays in new material and the future of the band in limbo. Not one to sit around, Slash was moved to create new material on his own. With the go-ahead from label heads at Geffen Records, Slash started assembling a lineup of players and got right to work. Bringing in fellow Guns members Matt Sorum, Gilby Clarke, and Dizzy Reed as well as the bass talents of Alice in Chains member Mike Inez, he quickly got several songs written and demoed musically. With additional songwriting contributions from Izzy Stradlin and Duff McKagan, the album is loaded with Guns n' Roses attitude and sound; albeit without Axl Rose on vocals.
With lots of great music ready to go, Slash needed a singer. After auditioning over 40 others, the job went to former Jellyfish member Eric Dover. It was an unlikely hiring considering Eric was a backing vocalist with Jellyfish. But, after an impassioned audition and showing he had the songwriting chops to hang with him, Slash offered him the job. The resulting album 'It's Five O'Clock Somewhere' is a lean, mean slab of bluesy rock n' roll featuring blistering vocals and Slash's identifiable guitar tone and solos.
Eric Dover shares his memories of his time with Slash's Snakepit for this special Albums Unleashed episode; from his audition to the songwriting and recording process to the tour for the album. There's a lot of great stories in this chat that give you a behind the scenes look at what Eric went through during this time. We think you'll enjoy this one for sure.
Eric has done a lot more in his career and we hope you'll check out his other projects including Sextus and more recently The Lickerish Quartet. We hope you enjoy our talk with Eric Dover about his time with Slash's Snakepit and SHARE with a friend!

We're back with a whole bunch more rock and metal news with New Noize May 2022! We're covering a ton of stuff this week and giving our unfiltered takes so strap in.
Autograph bassist Randy Rand recently passed away. The sad news came in around the time of this recording. We give our thoughts on Autograph the loss of Randy. As requested in the episode, let us know of some recommended Autograph tracks.
Metallica's James Hetfield is, reportedly, still fuming over the album covers for 'Load' and 'Reload.' Why? We get into the reasons in this episode as well as share our take on this era of Metallica.
Jason Newsted recently spilled the beans on his potential involvement in a Van Halen-related project. This news was confirmed by guitarist Joe Satriani who was also asked to contribute. As strange as this story is, it appears that something was in the works. We share our thoughts on this strange story as well as cover David Lee Roth's recent statement on the situation.
Other stories covered this week include the passing of Cynthia Plaster Caster, Matt Sorum's recent comments on the breakup of Guns n' Roses, John 5 revisiting a tense on-stage moment with Marilyn Manson, Machine Gun Kelly, Dave Mustaine relieving himself in an odd location, Queensryche lawsuits, Judas Priest albums news, and more!

We're back this week with all the rock news that's fit to spit with New Noize April 2022! It's been a heavy past couple weeks in the rock world with sad stories including the untimely death or Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins and the reverberations felt worldwide from it. We share our thoughts on Taylor and some of the reactions to it including that of Ted Nugent.
Skid Row announced their newest singer recently with the hiring of former H.E.A.T. front man Erik Gronwall. The band released a brand new single 'The Gang's All Here' featuring Gronwall's vocals. We share our thoughts on the hiring of Gronwall, the firing of Z.P. Theart, and what we think the future holds for Skid Row.
Bon Jovi recently kicked off their latest tour and the press is definitely not going wild for it. A recent brutal review from their St. Paul show led us to find some audio of the tour kickoff show in Omaha the night before. You won't believe your ears. Even worse, you won't believe the crowd reaction to it.
Additionally, Chris Jereicho recently admitted that Fozzy does make use of backing tracks for their live performances and claims that "everybody does." Between these two stories, it's clear that there's some not-so-great things on the horizon for the rock world and Chris makes his feelings known on the subject while pulling no punches.
Other stories touched on this week include Vivian Campbell reflecting on his bad deal with Ronnie James Dio, Tom Keifer publicly commenting on his late band mate Jeff Labar's passing, Spike getting sacked from The Quireboys, and Ugly Kid Joe announcing a new tour; spoiler alert, the US is once again not included.

This week we debut a new theme with On Assignment for the Marvelous 3 album 'Ready Sex Go.' Here's how it works. Each time, we seek out a fellow podcaster that we respect to assign us an album to review. We give the album several spins, in our own time, and then reconvene with our guest and grade the album on a A-F scale; going track by track through the album.
For this inaugural edition of On Assignment, we're joined by Jay Scott of The Hook Rocks podcast. As a fellow Pantheon network member, Jay's show has steadily climbed in popularity and regularly produces great episodes for the musically obsessed as well as fantastic interviews. We asked Jay to assign us an album that he loves and he chose the third, and final, Marvelous 3 album 'Ready Sex Go.' Released in 2000, the album completely flew under the radar of most rock fans despite getting modest airplay with the single 'Sugarbuzz.'
In this episode everyone shares their memories of Marvelous 3, how they discovered the music, and their links to Butch Walker's solo material and Southgang. We, then, go through all the tracks from 'Ready Sex Go' and give our thoughts as well as our letter grades.
This album is loaded from front to back with power pop rock greatness. The hooks, the melodies, the production, the playing and more are highlighted. If you haven't checked out Marvelous 3, Southgang, or Butch Walker's solo material, we highly recommend you do so.
So, what do YOU think? Did we pass the assignment? What letter grades would you give these songs? Let us know in the comments. We hope you enjoy On Assignment: Marvelous 3 Ready Sex Go and SHARE with a friend!

This week we welcome good friend, podcaster, and author Brian J. Kramp to discuss The Best & Worst of 70's Cheap Trick! In addition to his hosting duties of the awesome Rock and/or Roll Podcast, Brian's got an awesome new book coming out this Summer based on the early days of Cheap Trick!
This Band Has No Past tells the story of a bar band from the Midwest—the best and weirdest bar band in the Midwest—and how these four baby boomers, having been lucky enough to avoid the Vietnam draft, doggedly pursued a most unlikely career in rock’n’roll and made it on their own terms. It traces every gnarly limb of the family tree of bands that culminated in Cheap Trick, then details how this unlikely foursome paid their dues—with interest—night after night, slogging it out everywhere from high schools to bars to bowling alleys to fans’ back yards, before signing to Epic Records and releasing two brilliant albums six months apart.
Drawing on more than eighty original interviews, This Band Has No Past is packed full of new insights and information that fans of the band will devour. How was the Cheap Trick logo created? How did the checkerboard pattern come to be associated with the band? When did Rick Nielsen start wearing a ballcap 24/7? Who caught their mom and dad rolling on the couch? Read on and find out. The book is set for release June 21, 2022 and we can't wait to get it!
In this episode, the guys each share their favorite and least favorite songs from Cheap Trick's 70's output. This episode covers the self-titled debut, In Color, Heaven Tonight, and Dream Police as well as the landmark Cheap Trick at Budokan release. There are some definite differences in taste among the guys in this episode and it makes for an interesting discussion.
What are your Best & Worst of 70's Cheap Trick picks? Let us know in the comments below! Be sure to pre-order your copy of This Band Has No Past by Brian J. Kramp at https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1911036874/creativepubco-20

This week the guys recount a roller-coaster of a weekend in the sunshine state as Chris & Aaron Do Florida! One of the more memorable guests from Decibel Geek history was Dick Wagner. The original career-spanning interview with Dick as well as his appearance for an Albums Unleashed episode on Alice Cooper's Dada album were listener favorites and it led to a friendship between the guys which was cut short due to Dick Wagner's untimely passing a few years ago. Dick's partner Susan Michelson also became a friend through that experience. Susan would go on to found the Dick Wagner Remember the Child Fund; a music therapy program that provides musical instruction and instruments to sick and disabled children. That's what led to last week's events in Florida.
The Dick Wagner Remember the Child Fund recently added Woodstock co-founder and music industry legend Artie Kornfeld to it's board. Artie will be working with the charity in many ways in the near future. Chris & Aaron were selected by the charity to be the interviewers for an upcoming film project featuring Artie. The guys met up with Artie at recordingstudios.com/">Dogmanic Studios in Pompano Beach, FL for several hours of discussion of his amazing career with a hyper-focus on Woodstock and it's societal impact.
The interview was a definite highlight of Chris & Aaron's trip to Florida but not the only thing that happened. In this episode, the guys give a day-by-day account of the trip. There are many ups and downs throughout this loose discussion. From too much alcohol on too little sleep to rental car adventures to meeting some special friends while in town to flight issues to having one of those friends come in and save the day; there's a lot to discuss.
We hope you enjoy Chris & Aaron Do Florida and SHARE with a friend!
Decibel Geek is a proud member of the Pantheon Podcasts family.
Chris & Aaron would like to give special thanks to Susan Michelson, Deborah Peak, Artie Kornfeld, Ralph Viera, Charlie & Daniella Hill, videographer Albert Aronov, and Christian and the team at Dogmanic Studios for the hospitality.

With Chris & Aaron out of town for an interview, this week we look back on a DBG Classic as we revisit Albums Unleashed - Alice Cooper's Dada with guest Dick Wagner. Chris and Aaron are currently working with the Dick Wagner Remember the Child Fund this week; conducting an interview with a legend of the music industry for a future project with the charity. In honor of the charity, they thought it best to republish this classic interview with Dick Wagner in his honor. Original notes below:
Released in 1983, DaDa was, for all intents and purposes, dead on arrival due to being the final album in Cooper's contract with Warner Brothers as well as the out-of-the-box style of songs. Part art-rock, part esoteric/theatrical concept, DaDa's synthesizer-infused production combined with a healthy amount of humor crossed with dark subject matter left 1983 audiences confused; and they weren't the only ones.
The early 80's were a self-professed "blackout" period for Alice Cooper with the rocker going as far as saying that he barely even remembers the songwriting process or production of this album. Cooper's lack of recollection has led many die-hard Cooper fans to create their own theories as to the concept behind DaDa. Guitarist/composer Dick Wagner, a longtime collaborator of Alice's, was the principal songwriter on this album and was kind enough, while in Nashville in May of 2014, to sit down with Aaron and Chris to discuss the entire album track by track and memory by memory.
In this discussion, Wagner shares his memories of the difficulties that led to getting Alice to come to ESP Studios in Buttonville Ontario from his Pheonix home to join he and producer Bob Ezrin in the making of DaDa. Alice's alcohol abuse hit record highs during this period and Dick shares his recollections of their songwriting and recording process that led to the songs on the album.
From the creepy title track's intro that features producer Ezrin aping a psychiatrist talking to Cooper as DaDa's featured character over a bed of strange reverberating sounds and the voice of a child calling out for its father to the dark tale of self-destructive realization that is album closer 'Pass the Gun Around,' Wagner tells the story of the album's basic concept.
During this in-depth discussion of 1983's DaDa, Dick Wagner reveals the inspiration for the man-in-the-attic track 'Former Lee Warmer' and how, while it has horror opera feel, it's true roots lie in a bad business realtionship with Alice's record label.
A fantastic fan-created theory of the albums concept and storyline was written online in 2008 for guitar.com/reviews/compact_discs/alice_cooper/dada/">Ultimate-Guitar.com by a user named guitar.com/madpaperboy89/">madpaperboy89. Aaron and Chris were so intrigued by the review that they read parts of it to Dick to get his take on it. As you'll hear in the discussion, the writer was spot-on in parts.
As you'll hear in this installment of Albums Unleashed, DaDa still holds a very special place in Dick Wagner's heart and it's finally earning some much-deserved attention after all these years.

As you'll find out in this 2-plus hour mega-episode, that's a load of hogwash! There was a massive amount of great music released in 2021!

Killer combo releases featuring a combination of great artists were released including The End Machine, Sunbomb, Seven Ravens, Minefield, and many more. As you can see, we had a lot to consider.
So, which artists/albums made our lists? You have to listen to find out!
Do you agree with our picks? Did we get it right? Who did we overlook? What are YOUR top albums of 2021? Let us know in the comments!

We're delivering a big KISSmas gift this week as we are joined by producer/engineer Mike Plotnikoff for Albums Unleashed - KISS Psycho Circus! This album, released in 1998, promised to be the return of the original fearsome foursome to the studio. Unfortunately, it turned out to be anything but that.
Psycho Circus has become a very polarizing album among the KISS fan base. Coming off the heels of the successful Alive Worldwide reunion, anticipation was high for a reunion album. The final product, however, would include more Tommy Thayer and Kevin Valentine contributions than those of Ace Frehley or Peter Criss.
Mike Plotnikoff joins us for this in-depth talk about the making of Psycho Circus. After growing up a KISS fan, it was a big deal for Mike to be involved in the project. Producer Bruce Fairbairn had been on a run of big albums from bands like Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, AC/DC, and Van Halen. His knack for a polished, big guitar sound would also be achieved on Psycho Circus.
In this long-form discussion, Mike Plotnikoff talks about the making of Psycho Circus, the mood between the members in the studio, the use of outside musicians, songs that didn't make the album, and much more!
We hope you enjoy Albums Unleashed - KISS Psycho Circus and SHARE with a friend!

We recently passed the anniversary of the loss of Dimebag Darrel. Coinciding with that, the venue where the tragic shooting happened (Alrosa Villa in Columbus Ohio) met it's fate with a wrecking ball. We discuss our memories of that tragic day as well as the impact that Dimebag had on our lives.
David Lee Roth recently added more dates to his upcoming Las Vegas residency. Billed as his final shows, the addition of dates makes one wonder if this was just another ploy to sell more tickets. We give our thoughts on Diamond Dave's recent announcement.
Former Black Sabbath vocalist Tony Martin recently launched a new single from his upcoming album and it is damn good! We talk about Tony's contributions to Black Sabbath as well as our thoughts on his upcoming album.
Other topics covered this week include Steve Vai reminiscing on playing EVH songs and honoring him, Ted Nugent's strange way of delivering songs, Motley Crue selling their catalog for serious bucks, KISS possibly going on with new members, a Vinnie Vincent festival that was just announced for Nashville, KK Downing being angry, and way more!

We're back this week to share our thoughts on the classic 80's era of heavy metal legends Judas Priest! Mark Strigl from the Talking Metal podcast joins us as we pick our favorite and least favorite song off each album from British Steel through Ram It Down. Judas Priest had built up their reputation as one of metal's godfather bands with great 70's releases such as Stained Class, Sad Wings of Destiny, and Hellbent for Leather. They'd up the ante in the 1980's with an amazing run of albums and even more success.
Singer Rob Halford, guitarists Glen Tipton and KK Downing, bassist Ian Hill, and drummer Dave Holland were an astounding group of musicians that would help shape hard rock and heavy metal for many future generations.
We had a great time recording this episode and hope you will share YOUR Best & Worst of 80's Judas Priest in the comments below! Please listen, comment, and SHARE with a friend! Catch Mark Strigl on the Talking Metal podcast at https://art19.com/shows/talking-metal.

We're back this week with loads of cool stories about the music business in our Conversation with Munsey Ricci. You may not know his name but you definitely know his work. With a career in the record industry going back nearly 40 years including 30 as the head of Skateboard Marketing, Munsey has helped push countless records to rock radio around the world. If a rock or metal artist has released something in the past 30+ years, chances are good that Munsey was behind its marketing. Seriously, look at his past client roster at marketing.com/">https://www.skateboard-marketing.com/pastros.html and see for yourself.
Munsey has lots of great memories and stories of working with legendary artists. In this episode we hear about his time working with KISS, Motorhead, Alice Cooper, AC/DC, Metallica, Dio, and tons more. Additionally, he gives us his perspective on how marketing albums to radio has changed over time. It's an interesting insight into a side of the industry that you may not know.

We're back this week with a new concept we think you'll enjoy as we ponder The Producer Switch! A producer can, many times, make or break an album. Sometimes they can bring it to another level and, conversely, can hold back the potential of an album. As rock and metal fans, there are numerous examples of albums we all think could have been improved with a different producer at the helm. With that in mind, this week we're making The Producer Switch.
In this episode, we'll switch producers for albums by KISS, Black Sabbath, Enuff Z'nuff, David Lee Roth, Alice Cooper, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, an Ozzy Osbourne. What albums did we pick? What producers are being replaced? You'll have to listen to find out!
We want to hear from YOU! What producer switch would you make to your favorite albums and why? Say so in the comments!

We return this week with a show that will run the gamut of emotions as we present our ROCKNPOD Recap and a tribute to our fallen brother Rockin' Ron Runyon. ROCKNPOD Weekend was definitely a blur but we've had time to reflect. In this episode we'll share are thoughts on the entire weekend. Starting from Friday's preparty concert all the way through the comedy show that closed things out on Sunday, we have a lot to reflect on.
Tragically, we recently lost our friend and Decibel Geek TV producer Rockin' Ron Runyon this week after a hard fought battle with cancer. Ron's enthusiam, hard work, and spirit took Decibel Geek to new heights. More importantly, his friendship is going to be missed immensely. We go through some of our favorite Rockin' Ron memories and stories and reflect back on what a blessing he was to so many. Ron was also a huge part of ROCKNPOD and his connection to the event is also discussed.
As we mention in the episode, there's a GoFundMe campaign setup for the Runyon family. You can donate to it at https://gofund.me/5d3b7c82.

We're back this week with another great conversation as Billy Sheehan & Gregg Bissonette reflect on Eat 'Em & Smile. This legendary album by David Lee Roth was released July 7, 1986 and peaked at #4 on the US Billboard charts. More importantly, it was an absolute statement being put forth by the former Van Halen front man that he could still swing for the fences. With a powerful backing band including the rhythm section of Sheehan and Bissonette combined with the guitar acrobatics of Steve Vai, the Eat 'Em & Smile album is loaded with hooks, precision, and the patented tongue-in-cheek lyrics of Roth. It's a true example of rock's dominance in the 80's.
This interview was recorded live on-stage at the ROCKNPOD Expo in Nashville, TN on Saturday August 7, 2021. In this discussion, Billy & Gregg give the full backstory of how they hooked up with David Lee Roth, the audition process, album recording and much more. Their stories are incredibly entertaining and we think you'll get a kick out of these two legends reconnecting with each other.

We're back this week to talk about memories of KISS live with Koncert Memories! We know many of you have seen KISS live going all the way back to the glory days of the 70's. However, Aaron and Chris didn't get started until the early 90's. This makes for an interesting discussion as we got into the band at a commercial low-point and got to witness the resurrection of their popularity with the reunion tour in 1996 and all the strange twists and turns that lead us to today.
Tours discussed this week include the Hot in the Shade tour, Revenge tour, Bad Boys of KISS tour, Alive Worldwide 96-97 tour, Psycho Circus tour, Farewell tour, World Domination tour, Rock the Nation tour, Alive 35 tour, and End of the Road tour. Additionally, we discuss some Ace Frehley solo shows and notable one-off performances including KISS playing on a floating stage in Nashville in 1994 and the Vinnie Vincent acoustic performance at the 2018 Atlanta KISS Expo. There's a bunch of fun and interesting stories in this episode.

We're back with another fun read-through of metal on the printed page with Rock Mag '95! This week we're thumbing through the May 1995 issue of Metal Edge Magazine. As you probably remember, 1995 was a strange time in the hard rock and metal world and this magazine is proof of that! Grunge was huge by this time but there was a lot going on in the hard rock and metal worlds. This magazine issue is a definite clash of cultures as it covers stories on Pearl Jam, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Skid Row, Biohazard, KIX, Megadeth, Queensrych and loads more.
Additionally, we take a look at our favorite parts of these magazines with the mailbag section, question of the month, and outdated advertisements. It's a fun flip-through from a bygone era. What's even better this time is that you can flip through the magazine with us by going to this link https://fliphtml5.com/hqrk/etyi/basic

We're back to talk all the latest news on the Hottest Band in the Land with New Noize 15 - KISS Edition! After a pretty non-eventful 2020, KISS has ramped up things this year. This week we're gonna touch on some interesting recent news items pertaining to the band.
It was recently announced that A&E will air 'Shout It Out Loud,' a four-hour 2-night documentary on the band. The press release seems to make it pretty clear that the story will be mostly told from the perspective of Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. Apparently, original members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss declined to be involved in the project. Will this have a negative affect on the documentary? Will it be portrayed as a one-sided history? We share our thoughts on it.
Related to the A&E documentary, KISS will do a live performance at the Tribeca Film Festival following a screening of the event. With this being the band's first performance in 2021, what can we expect? Will rarities get played? Will tape roll? Listen and hear our thoughts.
There might be more than one KISS movie coming out. A possible biopic is close to production for Netflix. With some big name production people mentioned as well as a tie-in with Universal Music Group, this has the potential for a large budget. However, how the band is portrayed is, once again, at the heart of concern for KISS fans. There's a lot of possibilities with this one and we go over several scenarios.
Another new development in the KISS universe is the upcoming Vinnie Vincent May Metal Madness show at S.I.R. Teasing in his press release (ie. group post) that this "could be" the last of these $500 per ticket parties, he promised more spirits, food, fun, and, oh yeah, music at this upcoming event. Will it be the last of these parties? Will salad be served? Will any actual songs be played instead of mindless noodling? We share our theories.
Wrapping things up this week is some discussion on a KISS fan-created project that's apparently gone off the rails. A book called Magic: KISS Khronicles started taking pre-orders in 2018. Judging by some sample pages and the author's notable history of knowing the most minute details of rare and live KISS photos, this book seemed to have everything going for it. Fast forward 3 years and the book has still not been delivered and, it appears, keeps getting pushed back another 3 months every 3 months. A lot of buyers are up in arms and wondering where their book or refund is. We talk about this project and it's apparent hurdles in the episode.

Legendary drummer Vinny Appice joins us this week to examine the making of Dio's Holy Diver album. Coming off success with Black Sabbath, Ronnie James Dio was in a tough spot. While the band was in a good place professionally, interpersonal relationships were severely hampered. While in Sabbath, Dio was offered a solo record deal and decided to snap it up and bring drummer Vinny Appice with him. What resulted is an absolute masterpiece of metal music.
Holy Diver was released May 25, 1983 and immediately gained traction in a growing rock and metal scene. Powered by the singles 'Holy Diver' and 'Rainbow in the Dark,' the album is loaded with timeless songs. The rhythm section of Vinny Appice and Jimmy Bain combined with guitarist Vivian Campbell's soaring leads and Dio's majestic vocals produced an album that sounds as amazing today as it did upon its release.
In this discussion Vinny shares his memories of this album and era. From their split with Sabbath to the formation of the band to the recording of the album, you'll hear about it all. There are some great behind the scenes stories in this chat about the making of the album at the legendary Sound City Studios. Additionally, you'll get stories from Vinny about the songwriting and recording process for Holy Diver.
The chat wraps up with some other entertaining stories from this era including backward track recording, performing seances, and Ronnie's addiction to....video games. It's a great view into the making of a metal classic. We hope you enjoy Holy Diver - Albums Unleashed and SHARE with a friend!

In related news, Paul Stanley was asked about his KISS partners' comments and has a different take on the subject. We break it all down in this episode.
Motley Crue's 'Time for Change' is being used in a new commercial for Delta faucets. Huh? We share the details and our thoughts on Motley's answer to 'We Are the World' in this episode.
John Bush was recently asked about his desire to do a tour performing his Anthrax-era material. With things beginning to look hopeful for concerts again, he shares his thoughts on it and we share our thoughts as well this week.
Other topics covered in this New Noize episode include Oz Fox's recent brain surgery, Nikki Sixx warning against eBay bootleggers, Journey's 'Don't Stop Believing' hitting over a billion streams on Spotify and much more!

This week we're talking about bands that never topped their debut with Best Firsts! While many legendary bands take a few albums to fully find their footing, there are certain cases where the artist put their best foot forward on their debut album. Bear in mind, these are purely our opinions and your mileage may vary but we feel pretty confident in our picks this week. In this episode we talk about many well-known rock and metal artists and there's no easy way to not spoil it here in these notes. Did we get it right? Are we way off on some of these? Should we have our heads examined after listening to this episode? Listen and comment below and tell us!

This week we're joined by Ron Keel for an insightful conversation on his career and future plans. As recently announced, Ron has been added to the roster for ROCKNPOD weekend taking place in Nashville this August. In this conversation, Ron talks about his early days in Nashville. Coming to Music City in 1979, Ron encountered a much different Nashville than the way it is today. In this discussion, he shares stories of what led him to Nashville, the rock scene at the time (or lack thereof), and how he planted roots and founded Steeler. The formation of Steeler would lead Ron and the band to Los Angeles in the early 80's. In this conversation, Ron shares the story of the band's early days, lineup changes, and how he feels about the legacy of the band. Things would go full-circle in 2019 when Ron reunited with several past members of the band at KEELFEST which would take place at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, OH. It was a great way to cap off the history of Steeler.
Steeler would give way to the formation of KEEL. The band would ascend the rock ranks through the 80's and work with producers like Mike Varney, Gene Simmons and Michael Wagener. In 1986, Keel won the Best Band of the Year award in the second annual Metal Edge magazine reader's poll, beating such noted bands as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Their studio albums 'The Right to Rock,' 'The Final Frontier,' and 'Keel' are celebrated by many hard rock fans. 2010's 'Streets of Rock n' Roll' showed the band could still rock with the best of them.
From that first Steeler album to recent releases like “South X South Dakota” and “Fight Like A Band,” Ron Keel’s 35-year career in entertainment has taken him from the concrete jungles of arena rock to the dirt roads of country music. Along the way, he has sold millions of albums and toured the world as both a heavy metal screamer (KEEL, Steeler, and a brief encounter with Black Sabbath) and a southern rock/outlaw country artist (with dozens of songs in major films and TV shows). For the past two decades, the Metal Cowboy has combined both genres, establishing a style and a persona which captures the heart and personality of this self-proclaimed rock n’ roll outlaw.
In this conversation, Ron talks about the great connection he has with his fans. His following spans generations and he regularly interacts with them through his Patreon content which is uploaded constantly. He also shares some details of an upcoming album that he's working on as songs continue to flow. Additionally, Ron hosts his longtime radio show 'Streets of Rock n' Roll' and 'The Ron Keel Podcast,' both of which feature tons of great music and great interviews.
We had a great time talking to Ron Keel this week and look forward to seeing him at ROCKNPOD in Nashville this August! Get all-things-Ron-Keel at www.ronkeel.com!

This week we're taking a bite out of the Big Apple as Tony Mann joins to tell us why New York Rocks! Tony is a man of many talents; musician, author, filmmaker, designer, and writer. He started attending rock shows in New York City back in the early 70's. Over the years, Tony formed a bond with many artists that would go on to become legendary. With the recent passing of Sylvain Sylvain of the New York Dolls, it's a good time to delve into this subject.
New York RocksTony Mann was close to Sylvain and has many great stories to share about the history of the Dolls, Sylvain as a person, and much more. Tony also shares his experiences and friendship with the late, great Dee Dee Ramone. Of course, we couldn't do a New York rock episode without including KISS. In this discussion, Tony shares his memories of KISS' early days, how they fit into the scene, and personal interactions with the members of the band.
There's so much more to talk to Tony about in the future so, rest assured, he'll be returning in a future episode. Be sure to check out Tony's book Lost Rockers as well! We hope you enjoy New York Rocks with special guest Tony Mann and SHARE with a friend!

We're back this week to deliver all the news that's fit to spit with New Noize 13! So far, 2021 has been an active year for rock and metal news. In this episode we talk about some of the notable stories that have taken place recently.
Def Leppard recently launched an online museum for their fans. This site contains images of passes, stage worn gear, photographs, and tons more from their entire career. Best of all, it's actually free. We take a look at the Def Leppard Vault and share our thoughts on it and how it is a great template that other bands should be using for fan interaction.
Some exciting reissues are on the horizon from the Ronnie James Dio era of Black Sabbath. Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules are getting the deluxe treatment and contain some cool bonus tracks. We talk about this cool reissue.
Gene Simmons recently partnered with Gibson Guitars for a set of new guitars and basses as well as upcoming digital content. We break it all down in this episode.
Legendary label owner Marsha Zazula passed recently. The co-founder of Megaforce Records was an integral part of opening the door to loads of great acts from the 80's. James Hetfield recently released a statement in tribute to Marsha and we discuss that.
Megadeth leader Dave Mustaine recently revealed the working title for the next studio album. What is it? What do we think of it? You'll have to listen to find out.
Don Dokken recently had some criticism of the new project from former band mates Jeff Pilson and George Lynch. In this episode we talk about those comments and read Jeff's response to them.
Other notable news stories we touch on include Scott Rockenfield, Suspect208, Goran Edmond on Yngwie's treatment of the band, and how Elton John might be trying to ruin rock music (it'll make sense when you listen).

We kick off the new year with a look and listen back at our favorite albums from the past year with Best of 2020! While last year absolutely sucked for the world, it didn't stop the release of tons of great rock and metal music. By our count, there were over 80 albums released in 2020 that deserved our attention. We've poured over them all and narrowed it down to our Top 15 each. In this episode, you'll hear clips from 30 albums released in 2020 and get an explanation of why we chose them.
Lots of legendary acts released new material in 2020. We got new music from the likes of AC/DC, Ace Frehley, Marilyn Manson, Blue Oyster Cult, Bon Jovi, Stryper, Armored Saint and more. Several "supergroup" type projects were released by Revolution Saints, Dirty Shirley, Sons of Apollo, Black Swan, and Tokyo Motor Fist to name a few. Some longtime metal acts returned to the scene with new material such as Primal Fear, Annihilator, Cirith Ungol, Testament and Alcatrazz. Younger bands emerged in 2020 with fresh material such as Massive Wagons, Electric Mob, Speed Stroke, Red City Radio, Prowess, and more. As you can see, we had a lot to choose from.
Check out our Top 15 in this episode and tells us YOUR list in the comments section below. We'd love to hear yours!

We're closing out 2020 with special guest Julian Gill as we talk The Best and Worst of 70's Judas Priest! The Metal God, Rob Halford, and his band of brothers started kicking our asses all the way back in 1974 and continue to do so today. While the vast majority of their catalog is considered essential, the first 5 albums hold a special place in our hearts.
In this week's episode we discuss our thoughts on Rocka Rolla (1974), Sad Wings of Destiny (1976), Sin after Sin (1977), Stained Class (1978), and Killing Machine / Hellbent for Leather (1978). These albums would influence countless musicians around the world and help foster the arrival of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and, later, Thrash Metal. Their importance can't be understated.
Picking a Best & Worst track on each of these albums was no small feat and there were some definite differences of opinion in this discussion. We'd love to hear YOUR picks in the comments section below! We thank the awesome Julian Gill for joining us this week and hope you will SHARE with a friend!

We're back this week to pick our favorite bass and drum combos with our Rhythm Section Draft! While the singer and guitarist tend to get the most fanfare in bands, there's nothing like a groove being laid down by the bass and drums. When this unit is locked in, it can produce magical results.
The rock genre has been home to some amazing rhythm sections from the 60's on. With so many to choose from, we go back and forth and pick our choices. 20 total picks are made (10 for each of us). We think you'll agree with some picks and probably be infuriated with others.
Got an idea of YOUR Top 10 rhythm sections? List them below in the comments! We hope you enjoy our Rhythm Section Draft and SHARE with a friend!

We have a big announcement this week in an episode we're calling The Pantheon of Rock! In the nearly ten year history of Decibel Geek, we've been approached by several podcasting networks. While the offers were tempting, we've always shied away. However, we recently were approached by the Pantheon Podcast Network and, after a productive conference call and the possibilities of growing the show and offering more to our listeners, we've accepted their invite.
This week Pantheon Podcast Network founders Christian Swain and Peter Ferioli join us to talk about Decibel Geek joining the network. Additionally, you'll hear more about the network and the great collection of music podcasts that are a part of it including our friends at Rock and/or Roll, The Hustle, Should It Out Loudcast, and many more. The network also has great shows by rock author Martin Popoff and the legendary Pamela DesBarres among many others. Christian and Peter also share some entertaining stories of their musical background including concert memories.

We return this week with a blast from the past with Rock Mag '87. In the 80's, one of the only sources of rock news and information were magazines. Rock magazine titans of the 80's included Metal Edge, Circus, and Hit Parader. In June of 1987, Hit Parader released their supersized anniversary issue. Featuring Ozzy Osbourne and Randy Rhoads on the cover, this giant issue is a great time capsule of a magical time in rock and metal music.
In this episode, we scan through the magazine and share our thoughts on several of the stories. Some of the news items, rumors, and letters to the editor are pretty entertaining in hindsight. Topics covered include Steven Pearcy, Whitesnake, Autograph, Black Sabbath, David Lee Roth, KIX, Ace Frehley, Megadeth, Rob Halford, Eric Carr, and tons more!

We're getting cerebral this week while talking about the hottest band in the land as we chat with the authors of KISS and Philosophy; a book that seeks to enlighten you in a rock and roll way.
On the surface, you'd probably think that KISS songs are simply about groupies and having fun. To a point, you'd be right. However, as this book seeks to prove, there are a lot of poignant statements made throughout KISS' lyrical history.
Editor Court Lewis and contributor Matt Alschbach (along with others) provide an interesting case study in the ways that KISS' music parallels philosophy by Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, and more. Don't worry, this is no stuffy read; it's written for the layman and carries some great humor throughout. Plus, these guys are died-in-the-wool KISS fans and you'll get lots of cool nuggets throughout.
In this discussion, Matt and Court share their personal KISStories as well as help explain the main points of the book. We had a great time talking to these guys and know you will enjoy listening. You can pick up KISS and Philosophy: Wiser Than Hell at most major book retailers or direct from Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/KISS-Philosophy-Popular-Culture/dp/0812694910

With the sad news this week of a legends passing, this week we are Remembering EVH. Eddie Van Halen passed away from cancer this week at age 65. The news shook the world impacted us personally. To help process this information, we decided to go live on Youtube and Facebook. It was a cathartic chat between ourselves and several guests that joined us. Additionally, a large number of viewers shared their thoughts in the comments; many of which we reacted to.
Guests that joined us for this live tribute included Bakko from Cobras and Fire Podcast, JTB from JTB's Groovy Record Room, Ian Wadley, Rockin' Ron Runyon from Decibel Geek TV, Greg Mangus, and Toddzilla.
The void left by Eddie Van Halen is impossible to fill but we're appreciative of the decades of amazing music he left behind. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
We hope you enjoy the replay of our livestream of Remembering EVH and share with a friend.

This week we welcome back one of our favorite people to the show as we have a Conversation with Phil Shouse! As many know, Phil is one of the founders of Thee Rock n' Roll Residency here in Nashville. You also probably know that he's a member of both the Gene Simmons Band and the Ace Frehley Band. You may even know that Phil recently became a member of ACCEPT. What you might not know is that Phil has entered the world of podcasting/content creation! Shouse Rules recently launched on Youtube and is a welcome addition to our community.
In this episode Phil gives us his thoughts on appearing on the new Ace Frehley album Origins Vol. 2 from eOne. The members of Ace's band including Phil, Ryan Cook, Jeremy Asbrock and drummer Paul Simmons perform a scorching version of 'She' by KISS. We got the breakdown of how the song was chosen as well as the story behind the recording.
Additionally, with Phil's recent addition to German legends ACCEPT, he shares his story of how he was brought into the fold as well as an update on the upcoming album which promises to be killer.
Other topics covered this week include Status Quo, the new album by Thee Rock n' Roll Residency, and a recent ghostly encounter that Phil had at his apartment. It's a fun talk that we know you'll dig.
Also, Phil takes on Chris in another round of Beat the Geek! Check it out!
We hope you enjoy our Conversation with Phil Shouse and SHARE with a friend!
