Have you ever tried to declutter the WHOLE house in one day?
This week on the podcast, Kirsty & Fi chat about some of their recommendations of what NOT to do, or as they call i, the Don'ts of decluttering.
They dig into 10 things you probably don't want to do if you want to see success in decluttering. Kirsty and Amy have extended their break so we are replaying some of our top episodes as dictated by you are amazing listeners! We asked for what were some of your fav episodes to share with those that are new to decluttering or the podcast and we'll be sharing them for you.
Minimalism is something we talk about ALL the time but until now had not dedicated an entire episode to. Minimalism has and always will be a huge part of our lives and one of our favourite things to share about – clearly as we go on about it a lot! Both of us identify as minimalists, but we have decided that ‘intentionalism’ (did we just make up a new word?!) really is a better word to describe this type of lifestyle. There is so much gold in this episode so sit back relax and take it all in!
In this episode we:
● Discuss what minimalism is and what does it really look like;
● Share our own journeys into minimalism;
● Highlight what minimalism isn’t;
● Discover that minimalism is really about freedom;
● Challenge you to be intentional about what comes into your home and what goes out;
● Remind you that minimalism is more than just about having less stuff;

Kirsty & Amy get passionate about what they call 'repetitive clutter'. You know those spaces you've decluttered but for some reason it's groundhog day...again!
We explore the four major issues that contribute to clutter reappearing and share what to do about them.
In this episode the four major issues we cover that contribute to clutter reappearing are:

● You might not have a suitable way to keep things - it’s a storage problem
● You have systems but you’re not sticking with it - it’s a habit problem
● You actively chose to ignore the problem - it’s a vision problem

Balance - what is it, how does it relate to decluttering and organising and how can we use it as a tool to achieving an intentional life.
We have some thoughts on balance and we don't hold back! Constantly having to assess and make continuous adjustments is exhausting and a huge drain of energy - we are not a fan!!! We attempt to tease out the heart behind what balance is and how that can help us shift our focus onto the what we are trying to engage in and enjoy, and away from the from the actual balancing act itself.
Join us as we get into the nitty gritty today as we come at balance from many different aspects.
In this episode we;
● Define what balance is and how it relates to decluttering;
● Tell you how the word and concept of balance makes us feel;
● Ask where is the grace when we don't get it all right?;
● Highlight the importance of being aware of the season you are in and working out balance in community;
● Explore other ways to talk about balance that allows us more freedom and flexibility;
And so so so so much more...

Does expectation drive you into action or do you feel it sets you up for disappointment?
Can your expectations daunt you or spur you on?
Today we explore these and more when it comes to how we respond to the expectations we put on ourselves. Get ready to ask yourself 'why' A LOT in an effort to help you better understand what kinds of stories you are telling yourself that then lead to the creation of your expectations. We love using binary decisions as a tool when you have so many decisions to make.
One in particular that we wanted to highlight is today's episode.
Item or Space?
This can look like a few different things
- deciding whether to keep an item or let it go and gain back some of the physical space it was taking up,
- choosing to rearrange/reorganise the area you're focusing on and create more space by changing the layout,
- having a look at your calendar, weighing up your schedule and making adjustments for more white space in your day/week/month.
Asking item or space can basically be used in any area of your life where you need to make decisions!
We hope you gain some tips today that help you feel more empowered in your decision making.
In this episode we;
● Explain what we mean by item or space;
● Remind that every time you make a decluttering decision you are choosing between keeping the item or claiming back the space;
● Highlight the benefits of having space;
● Encourage you to walk through your home and look at everything with fresh eyes;
● Talk about the types of intangible space that can get cluttered;
And so so so so much more...
We hope from this conversation we all learn something and put a smile on your face!

Hey amazing listeners! It's Amy going solo today, dropping you a fun little bonus episode. We do have our regular episode coming up but due to some technical issues it has been delayed until later in the week, so watch this space!
We still wanted to deliver a little something into your ears so Amy has put together a quick mindfulness exercise that you can do to help you view your space with fresh eyes.
Inspired by a mindfulness exercise by Osher Gunsberg on his podcast "Better than Yesterday" Amy takes us on a journey as she intentionally notices everything in the space around her.
If you are someone that may have become blind to clutter, doesn't know where to start or finds it tricky to prioritise and make a strategy for decluttering then you will absolutely love this episode.
Have a great week and enjoy stopping and noticing!

Usually we think of the saying 'All or Nothing', unfortunately this is often entirely unhelpful when it comes to being motivated, so we want to flip it around to say 'All or Something'. Kirsty saw an ad recently that used this phrase and she just new there was an episode in it! We often give up on an idea because we can't get it ALL done. Have you ever thought about what could happen if you replaced that 'all', with what if I just do something? Today we explore just how a whole lot of little somethings impact the 'all' and actually get you to your goals. So join us as we get into what we mean by 'All or Something'..
In this episode we;
● Define what we mean by 'All or Something';
● Give you lots of tips of what something can look like;
● Discuss how paralysis analysis impacts your progress;
● Highlight that somethings is better than nothing;
● Encourage you that all the somethings get you to the all;
And so so so so much more...

She has an enormous readership, both in print and online, and her books have sold over 3.5 million copies worldwide, in more than thirty languages. In 2020 while Peter was quarantining after returning to Australia from the USA, we managed to steal some of his time and pick his brain with all our questions. You may know him from his days as Oprah's Decluttering Guru, or TV shows such as The Living Room, The Rachel Ray Show and Space Invaders.
Peter is a legend and pioneer in the Professional Organising industry and it was such a joy and delight to have this time with him.

In this episode we;
● Learn Peter's story from being a teacher in Australia to sharing the TV screen with Oprah;
● Hear his heart for deep understanding of people and not just superficial tidying;
● Glean from his wisdom what changes happen in peoples heads, hearts and home when they do the deep work of decluttering;

Did you know that shopping bags don't have to take over your house and that they can actually be nicely organised?!
Over a week ago Amy posted a video to our socials showing us all her hack for folding reusable plastic shopping bags - well it created quite a stir! We even had our friend and fellow podcast host Mandy from Too Peas DM us on Instagram with her own questions after seeing it. So thanks Mandy, today's podcast was inspired by you!
Since grocery stores phased out single use plastic shopping bags a few years ago, people all over the country have been unintentionally hoarding reusable bags. It is very common for us to find said bags stuffed into multiple cupboards and drawers when in our clients homes. We get it, we've all been there, you get to the checkout and the realisation sets in....you forgot your bags! Faced with the choice of becoming a pack horse laden with groceries or buying a new bag most pick the more convenient latter option.
Get ready as we delve into what we think about this and how to stop it by putting some helpful steps in place! Enjoy some laughs and giggles with us in your ears today.
Oh and if you are a super human and have managed to maintain the condition of those little black plastic bases that come with the green fabric bags please jump into our Facebook Community and show us - we need to know!
We hope from this conversation we all learn something and put a smile on your face!

Rounding out our mini series is this week's episode 'Love It'. Asking yourself 'Do I love it' can grant you the permission to keep or let go of an item you have been umming and aaahing over. How many things do we keep because we feel that we HAVE to, not because we actually LOVE them? Spoiler alert: It's ok to keep things that you absolutely love!! Do you use it? Following on from last week’s episode, today we are posing to you this question - Do you use it? We often buy things with good intentions or ideas in mind (we call this aspirational you) but often end up with an overflowing cupboard or room filled with said items. Get ready to clear the clutter by asking yourself some hard hitting questions to get some clarity on what is actually being used in your home.
Don't forget to come over to our Facebook community to let us know what you use and how that has changed as part of your decluttering journey AND what have you let go of that you used to think you used it but realised that you actually didn't.
In this episode we:
● Discuss how seeing the potential in an item and the reality of actually using it are two different things;
● Challenge you to ask - 'What could I instead?;
● Highlight that it's harder to let go of it once you've already purchased it;
● Hear how asking 'do you use it' has changed the way the Revell's and Farrugia's buy clothes for their kids;
● Encourage you to look at your possessions with fresh eyes;
And so so so so much more...
We hope from this conversation we all learn something and put a smile on your face!

Do you need it? Need is such a subjective thing, only you can truly know what you need but sometimes figuring that out can be a little tricky! We love questions (as you all know!) so this week we suggest adding this one to your decluttering toolkit to pull out when you need it (pun totally intended!). Today is the first of a 3 part series over the next couple of weeks where we'll be looking at questions that can serve you well on your decluttering journey. Join us as we share laughs - cue Amy's YES button, tips, advice and our feelings as we check in with each other about how lockdown is going. Sending love to all of you experiencing a hard time xx
In this episode we:
● Define and distinguish 'need' from 'want';
● Share the importance of timing when making purchases;
● Highlight that efficiency and effectiveness is a great way to determine a need;
● Remind you to be a thoughtful and conscious consumer;
● Encourage you to check yourself - are you buying to numb your feelings or do you need it?;
● Hear the return of Amy's Yes button;
And so so so so much more...
We hope from this conversation we all learn something and put a smile on your face!

Today's episode is a good one!! We bring you a concept that you can use as a tool to help make the decluttering process that little bit easier. Breaking things down into binary decisions is a great way to take a step back when things get hard or overwhelming and make it plain and simple to get you back into your decluttering groove. Sometimes reducing the options to yes/no black/white type decisions can help you to refocus your energy in the midst of trickiness or when you can't see the forest for the trees. Enjoy our conversation today as we share loads tips and advice for you. Come over to our Facebook community and let us know your experiences with using binary decisions to help you achieve your goals in all areas not just decluttering.
In this episode we:
● Define and discuss what we mean by binary decisions;
● Share how to use this concept as a tool to help simplify the decluttering process;
● Highlight yet again our differences!;
● Encourage you at every point to split your decisions down into binary ones;
● Challenge you to use Amy's fav decision making tool when you get really stuck making decisions;
And so so so so much more...
We hope from this conversation we all learn something and put a smile on your face!

Don't let the title of today's episode put you off. Yes we are talking about control but in relation to freedom, grace and self agency (now there's a fancy new term for you!). Come along for the ride today as we toss around a whole bunch of our thoughts on how we are in control of our minds, bodies and emotions, how trying to control others generally results in resentment and Kirsty's hatred of the word 'should' just to name a few. Get ready to go deep and reflect on your own mindset around control.
In this episode we:
● Explain and define what we mean by control vs what the world says;
● Remind you that you have the authority to determine what life looks like for you;
