Love in action is listening to understand, not to react.
We were invited by the Hosts of the Nomad Podcast to participate in Pod March which is based on a vision of numerous podcasts releasing a single episode that they’ve created in regards to reacting and addressing the global and local impact of Climate Change.
One of the most amazing and beautiful things about being involved in the podcast world is connecting with other people on such deep and personal levels. Sometimes you become very fortunate and get a chance to know them personally with the ultimate reward of referring to them as friend.
No other podcast over the past couple of years has had a greater impact on me personally than the Nomad Podcast. Tim, David, Jemimah, Nick and Dave have a special place in my heart and mind. Tim and David have also become friends and we even had David on this show previously.
When invited we quickly said yes.
In regard to the content I haven’t listened and no doubt would not agree with 100% of everything that is said but the very essence of this show and what has been the first step in transformation is to, stop, and listen. So we invite you, regardless of your position, to hear this chorus of voices (actual show notes below) within the motto of our show:
Love in action is listening to understand, not to react.
Everybody Now
Climate Emergency and Sacred Duty
We’ve caused a turning point in the Earth’s natural history. Everybody Now is a podcast about what it means to be human on the threshold of a global climate emergency, in a time of systemic injustice and runaway pandemics. Scientists, activists, farmers, poets, and theologians talk bravely and frankly about how our biosphere is changing, about grief and hope in an age of social collapse and mass extinction, and about taking action against all the odds.
On 19th October 2020, Everybody Now is being released by podcasters all over the world as a collective call for awareness, grief and loving action.
With contributions from:

Inspired by an upbringing of highly conservative theology coupled with a transformation into anything but Seth Price was inspired to start the Can I Say This At Church Podcast. As the 100th conversation we could think of anyone better to talk about our parallel but different journeys.
You can find Seth’s podcast HERE.
We also want to recognise and thank Seth for his time given he had recently lost his Dad prior to recording. He still wanted to talk and are humbled by his grace and strength. God speed to him and his family.

When I was given the chance to interview Uzma Jafri and Zaiba Hasan, the hosts of the Mommying While Muslim Podcast, I jumped at the opportunity. After listening to the podcast, finding out I grew up 4 years apart and in the same school district as Uzma and getting the chance to talk to them my perspective is no longer the same. This conversation and their spirit are why podcasts go beyond a place to learn stuff. You get to hear the hearts and minds of your fellow human beings.

When Meg & Mike Glesener's son Josiah headed off to college out of state they never imagined they'd end up in a medical tug-of-war with the state of California. Michael and Cici met in jail. There unconventional beginning was par for the course as they navigated their past with the amazing present and future of a harmonious and complimentary love for each other. From the early days of the podcast I would get an email from Michael after each show with commentary. I really loved hearing from him and after learning more about he and Cici nothing made more sense to me than having them on to talk about it.

Charles Kirk served in the US Army and during his time he was deployed to many places including Iraq. While fighting to protect his fellow soldiers and friends there was always a good chance the enemies he was fighting would become clear. What he wasn’t prepared for was those he would have to fight that could not be seen. He not only fought that fight as well but took it to social media to encourage others to seek help. That act inspired this conversation.
Special thanks to my old colleague and friend Mark Vose for liking Charles’ post on LinkedIn which led to me seeing it and reaching out to him.

Former Pastor Karl Forehand wrote his book Apparent Faith after the love of his children and grandchildren shook his faith to its very core. His renewal and revelations are described these days as "deconstruction" and while may not be on the same journey he is still on the same path of faith, hope and love.

School shootings grip headlines and stop people in their tracks when the news hits. My friend Eric Nevin's and his family experienced a school shooting first hand when on May 7, 2019, one occurred at the STEM School Highlands Ranch where all three of his children attend school. The charter school is located in the Denver suburb of Highlands Ranch. One student, Kendrick Castillo, was killed when he engaged the shooter in an attempt to stop him. A heroic act that prevented further fatalities. Eight others were injured.

I met Kerry Baldwin when we were on a panel together for the first Christian Podcasters Associations Online Conference. We were discussing what it means to ask tough questions and everything about her, as well as our experience, made me want to invite her to the table to talk about the nature of right and wrong. We do that in the first half and then there’s a second part where we talk about politics. Enjoy.

Honestly, I’m struggling mightily with nationalism and culture in the United States. Especially as it lines up with my faith and how it is evolving. How should our faith stand with the culture we live in and the rest of the world? Stephen Backhouse, who has chewed on this subject professionally and personally, comes to the table to discuss these issues and similar ones.
Skubalon is the Greek word that in its day was profane and highly symbolic. To know what it means you’ll have to listen to Stephen Backhouse’s episode on Nomad Podcast here. And no, refuse, rubbish or trash is not the full meaning.
You can find the board game Stephen mentioned, Twilight Imperium, here.

As an avid listener of the Mixed Mental Arts Podcast Spiros Michalakis quickly became one of my all-time favorite guests. He and a researcher at Microsoft, solved one of the world's most challenging open problems in the field of mathematical physics. My friend Patty Pantazopoulos and her husband Tasos started a bakery/coffee shop called Anonymous Cafe in 2017. Less than a year after opening it was voted Best Bakery in Texas in an article by Buzzfeed. Despite incredible success in every way they had close their doors at the end of 2018 and find a new way to reopen. A year and a half later there is finally a light at the end of the long tunnel. We have a conversation about what kept them going during this difficult time, the incredible response(s) of their legion of loyal customers and just exactly when we can expect her mother’s amazing Eckmek to FINALLY be available again!

This is a short and sweet message to our wonderful listeners about why we've had a recent drought of episodes.
Stay tuned dear friends...there are some amazing conversations coming!!!
Millions of Americans and millions of dollars are used to support faith-based missions each year. Groups of people large and small head outside the borders of the US to save the world and be the Gospel by providing all kinds of support. Could we have our typical models of operation structured to do more damage than good? We welcome Lucretia Hall to the table to talk about her experiences in this world. Her husband John came to the table in our first season and we are delighted to call them both listeners, guests and friends of the show
You can find the organization, Praying Pelicans Mission, that was mentioned here.
Your can find the documentary mentioned Poverty, Inc here.
You can learn more about the story about King Frederick mentioned by Lucretia here. It talks about how not just love but the innate NEED for love through physical affection and touch are necessary for life.

Tracy Winchell experienced grief that tried to break her. As she continues to fight back through the muck and the invisible chains she found a path that strips off all that she knew to build it again. The beauty of her journey is the revelation that in the midst of this ongoing process we must reach across the table, the aisle or whatever barrier, real or not, and truly connect with others.

David Benjamin Blower pours out his thoughts and emotions through multiple mediums of sound. I've listened to him through his music, podcasting and devotionals which led me to extend an invitation to come to the Table. He's not self-indulgent or seeking fame, fortune and approval. He is simply on a journey and finds solace in those doing the same.
You can hear David’s latest single “The Soil” and all his music on Bandcamp or Spotify. You can follow him on his Facebook and Instagram pages as well.
You can also hear him as a guest and then as a host on Nomad Podcast.
I cannot personally recommend David’s music and the Nomad Podcast more. They are both truly incredible and a source of constant inspiration and contemplation.

Geothermal Energy gets little attention or love in regards to being a renewable and alternative energy source. The standards, expectations and time requirements for those who lead a church can be very high. The expectation, fair or not, can be not to just represent the church but to be the perfect Christian. Is that fair let along possible? After all, they need The Gospel as much as anyone. Brandon Cunningham comes to the table to talk about his journey as a pastor and those expectations.
You can catch Brandon and his friend, co-host and previous Table Podcast guest Jerry Dugan on their podcast Beyond The Rut.

Climate Change can bring about a myriad of emotions and provide a definitive ground for division. When my old colleague and friend Karen Spenley reached out to me to tell me about her acceptance to the Homeward Bound project I felt it was a great chance to talk about this subject. I definitely didn't expect it to have the impact on my own personal viewpoint of the subject as it did.
You can follow and connect with Karen and her Homeward Bound journey below:
If you’d like to find out more on how you can support Karen’s Homeward Bound journey you can access her Chuffed page here.
Karen mentioned Project Drawdown as a place to learn about Climate Change. Here is their website https://www.drawdown.org/.

Brandy and her husband Matt experienced the ultimate threat to their marriage: infidelity. When I first heard their story on their podcast The Road Home to You like many I initially listened with an ear for who had been unfaithful. It's a shame that we tend to start there but with the courage of Brandy and her husband, we get the chance to hear another voice. The one of grace, humility and forgiveness.

When my friend and former guest on the podcast Jenni Aguilar reached out about this weeks guest and told me about Rachel Summers, her job in the sex industry and her willingness to come to the table to talk about it we could not pass up the chance. As much if not more than any of the topics we’ve covered having a conversation with “a stripper” is and was ripe for many preconceived notions and opinions. She isn't trying to argue the right and wrong of the job but she is dedicated to advocating for those in this legalized business to be treated with dignity and respect.

This episode is about suicide, how it directly impacted the life of my friend Caroline Ferguson and how she's fighting back against it with not just her heart but with her business Grateful & Co.. We need to do all we can to shed light on this subject and I cannot thank my friend enough for her courage to have a conversation. To all who are suffering and continue to struggle as well as those, like Caroline, who have been impacted by suicide we love you and stand next to you.
This is the first of what I hope will be more discussions on this subject. You are not alone. People care and we can all do something, anything, to help all who are impacted by this.

I met Rudy Giecek through the Mixed Mental Arts Podcast group. He has a successful podcast of his own, The Cascade Hiker Podcast centered around the old tried and true outdoor activity of hiking. His story is one of humility and self-awareness as he may have grown up hiking but it wasn't until later in life that he rekindled and discovered his love for trekking through the woods. However, he's much more than a hiker and podcaster but a man dedicated to his faith, his family and friends.

Our first episode featuring Jim Sanders was about race. During our conversation, he mentioned a seminal book The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander and I felt motivated to read it. After I did I reached out to my friend Isaiah Gooley from the Mixed Mental Arts community to see if he would like to discuss the book itself. The book is an extremely important piece of literature in regards to understanding American Culture. This is our conversation about it.

I found it impossible to pack in even one conversation with Liam Breunle into a single episode so here is the second half of our conversation. Stereotyping others is a flaw we all suffer from both from others and from our own hand. Liam is scientific evidence that fighting stereotypes are worth the effort. I reached out to him after he started following the podcast on from his Instagram account and encourage everyone to follow his burgeoning career!

It seems to be in our very nature to stereotype others for a variety of reasons. How does this stack up when a person is the embodiment of a stereotype but it isn't accurate? How do we deal with the shattering of these images? What does it tell us about ourselves.
Liam Breunle started following the podcast on from his Instagram account. When I realized it wasn't a random travel blog or hair product account farming for followers I took a look around his profile. Former WWE wrestler. Stand Up Comedian/Actor. Former Accounts Receivable with the Italian Mafia. Add in he looks like the picture perfect Biker and stereotypes were made but something seemed potentially off. I dug deeper, looked around and with a little tug at my heart to motivate me I reached out to him and invited him to have a conversation about stereotypes.

Is Bigfoot real? Are the stories around supernatural experiences and entities simply the delusions of people? Can you be a Christian and believe in these modern-day stories that defy “nature”?
I met Tony Merkel at the end of 2017 when I started this podcast and while it took a while to get him on the show it was worth the wait! He hosts the extremely popular podcast The Confessionals which is a series of interviews with people who have experienced the paranormal, supernatural and anything in and around that arena. I made a stupid assumption when we first came in contact with each other and assumed anyone who believed in these kinds of things would not be a Christian. I was wrong and it was a lesson that really made me relook at my own faith and confess that there is not as big a gap between the natural and supernatural as I had thought.

What in the world is Kombucha? How does someone go from never having heard of kombucha to starting his own company selling it?
I met Trenton Kaminski when I bought a bottle of kombucha at his shop in Richmond, TX. After a few conversations around his product and a bunch of other stuff I invited him to come onto the podcast. Trenton is not satisfied with just buying a product or idea. He is compelled to dive into the marrow of things and get to the essence of what makes something work.

How far out should your pinky go when drinking fine coffee? What's the difference between a French Press and French Vanilla? What's the magic behind sharing a cup of coffee with someone?
Bryan Hibbard and I met at his new coffee shop Fort Bend Coffee Roasters and I invited him to the table based on his knowledge and passion for all things coffee. What would motivate an atheist to pray? Is "everything fair" in war? Is there room for compassion and grace in a combat zone?
Jerry Dugan and I connected through Facebook and I was invited to be on his podcast Beyond the Rut that he hosts with Brandon Cunningham. I was struck by the humility and presence of both gentlemen. I invited Jerry to come to the table but had a vague idea of why outside of a tug at my heart. This is by far one of the most revealing and amazing conversations I've been a part of during this journey. I'm so grateful to Jerry for his honesty, authenticity and transparency.

What introspection is required to find clarity? How do we do this with real world issues and challenges? What role does "being relation" play in this process?
I met Ramahn Henderson through Facebook and a simple post (picture below) about humility, understand and health prompted me to reach out to have a conversation. He draws upon a perspective that is constantly being redefined couple with a thirst for improving himself. And the best part is he wants to bring as many people along as he can.

What do you do when your friend's son commit's suicide? How do you come alongside someone just found out they have cancer? What do you do or say in the shadow of tragedy?
Sarah Beckman drew on her experiences as both the eager friend and the sufferer to write her book Alongside. Ironically, one of the biggest take aways is understanding that it is not about you. You can help but you can also cause more harm than good. Her book is not just a testament but a guide with real time practical standards to use as barometers for stepping into the world of other's suffering. This book gives all who read it a fighting chance to truly come alongside and help, not hinder, those lost in a sea of misery and chaos. Join us as we dive deeper and further into what it means to come Alongside those in need.

What makes Ireland a Christian Mission field? What does it mean to be a long term missionary? What motivates a husband and wife to pack up their family and live in another country for the rest of their lives?
I sit down with Chris & Joi Copeland to talk about being called by God to move their family and their lives to Ireland. Four and half years later they are still preparing to make the move to Galway, Ireland, but they are more motivated now than they ever have been. Ireland may seem like a vacation spot but a history of Protestant and Catholic violent conflicts, abuse by church clergy, high rates of alcoholism, suicide and other difficult issues have had a tremendous impact on people’s faith and impression of “the church.” Chris and Joi are not signing up to go on a vacation but to love any and everyone they get the chance to connect with by being the hands and feet of Jesus.

Alexander Lowry felt a twinge of motivation after seeing years of financial scandals and poor ethical choices. Instead of sitting on the sidelines and talking about it with his peers he created Gordon College's Master of Science in Financial Analysis degree program to provide not only a hyper-focused Graduate level education but to infuse Christian standards and ethics into those who take the course.
Here's a link to a great video where Alexander talks about numerous currencies used by various countries and their attributes for Condé Nast Traveler. https://youtu.be/35QklHVFCH4

Like most entrepreneurs David Hannahs got his start at an early age as a result of recognizing an opportunity, no fear in working hard and the value of providing a service. Most of the time we think being an entrepreneur ends in billions of dollars earned and being a household name. David is like most business owners in that you've probably never heard his name. However, he got to where he is using the same grit, determination and savvy as everyone else.

You could describe Aidan Coughlan as many things I am not such as liberal, vegan or atheist. After spending the last six months getting to know him personally and listening to his podcast The Aidan Project I'm simply proud to call him friend. I set out on this journey of conversation with people of all kinds of temperament hoping to help shed light for others. In this case, as have all of my conversations, I see the light shining with my own eyes as well.
In the episode he mentions his Brandstanding Game which you can find a link to the Facebook Group here.

I felt a kinship to Tony Vasinda when he reached out to me and I listened to an episode of his The Threshold Podcast. A man of faith and fellow Christian he was using the podcast medium to have conversations with atheists, former believers and the like to simple listen to their story and be Christ to them. I knew my motivation and I asked him to come to the table so I could learn about his.

Sam Morse got to a point where he had to make a decision about his faith. A childhood of attending church coupled with the science based rationale of his adulthood did not mix. He went a step further and made his personal journey public so others would not feel alone in their struggle through his Podcast Out of Eden. Sam talks to us about his continued journey around science and faith.

Gary Jenkins spent 13 of his 25 years in law enforcement investigating organized crime but he did not let retirement in 1996 slow him down. He has spent the years since his retirement writing books, starting the amazing podcast Gangland Wire, got his law degree and became an author and documentarian. His passion for justice took a different route as his documentaries and books focused on the Western Underground and what happened in Missouri during the days of slavery.

The benefits of community are hard to deny and essential to all that we do. As part of a group of not just podcasters but those driven by their faith I felt a conversation with Phil Gauthier, host of The God Watch Podcast, and Eric Nevins, host of The Halfway There Podcast, was merited. Both of these gentlemen, like me, found a need to provide a voice of honesty, reflection and compassion. Each does so in his unique way but the common thread of loving others, humility and being Christ to others emanates.

This episode and our guest John Hall represent one of the top things on our bucket list. To impact and ultimately connect with those listening to us. John was one of our first listeners to reach out to us through email and a friendship began. This led to an invitation to sit at the table and have a conversation. The topic? One of the one's we "aren't" supposed to have and one perfectly set up for John's wheelhouse: politics. It's an honor and pleasure to have him at the Table.

A Native and Resident of Riga, Latvia Kristaps Andrejsons combines passion for his country, politics and history guide both his podcast, The Eastern Border and his everyday life. Despite growing up on the other side of the Cold War his life experiences have led him to appreciate both sides and come to understand the universal truth that underneath the politics, language, culture and the rest lie people who much more the same than different.

Wally Carmichael is a father, husband, Career Combat Medic for the US Army, Entrepreneur and podcaster. Wally saw the need in his community to help men coupled with the realization that he did not have to wait to meet some economic or professional goal to make an impact on it. While the episode was recorded quite awhile ago our new direction of leaving the episode raw and uncut starts with our conversation with Jon Aguilar. Few conversations and topics have resonated with me as much as this one. Jon is an amazing person who represents the best of us and what it means to evolve as a person. He posted an article on the Mixed Mental Arts Group page about the demoralization of Western Culture on people and the resulting psycho-spiritual crisis. There's a link to the article here. Beyond the typical rhetoric of complaining about these things and simply whining about things that are wrong Jon has dedicated his life to doing something about it. He's found that in discovering passion, purpose and prosperity in his profession of dry stone and dedication to bringing the benefits of it to his fellow man he and those around him are flourishing. IKIGAI is a Japanese concept that means "a reason for being" and is the basis for what he does.
The artwork for this episode is not simply a nice visual it is actually a project Jon and his team built. There is no mortar in the joints of the image you see above and every single piece is made to fit with the others. It's a modern day masterpiece of not only art but function. Find numerous pictures of Jon's work now and keeping up with his company's efforts HERE on Instagram.

At the age of sixteen while snowboarding Rio Richards suffered a traumatic brain injury that like most accidents was quickly treated and addressed. However, from the outside the true trauma could not be seen like a black eye or broken bone. After an overnight stay in the hospital she went home unaware of the mental struggles she would endure for years to come. The answer to the question of what she had to do to help herself is not what you think.
Rio co-hosts The Primal Brain Podcast along with last weeks guest Jenni Aguilar! Their one two punch of experience and knowledge is easily accessible. We are huge fans and highly recommend it!

Jenni Aguilar didn't set out to be an expert on the brain but a series of life events coupled with an authentic "Mama Bear" approach to her children provided medium for a personal and professional pursuit to understanding this wonderful organ of the body. Her natural and disciplined approach to learning and teaching make the conversation fluid, enjoyable and easy to understand...like having a loving and caring Mother talk to you about things you didn't know.
Jenni is also the co-host of The Primal Brain Podcast with Rio Richards! This podcast dives into all things "Brain" and gives the listeners easy, digestible nuggets of information and experiences they can easily understand and apply to their lives. We are huge fans and highly recommend it!

Melissa Monte embodies resilience and the attitude needed to both face suffering and overcome it. She honestly talks about the many experiences such as sexual abuse, eating disorders and the loss of loved ones that have the capacity to cripple people. A special thanks to the musical talent of our friend and guest of the show David HaLevy for writing and performing the sound to our intro and outgoing music. We felt this was both appropriate and needed to equip those who listen with as many tools and resources as we could to maximize their journey and experiences.

Host Sean McCoy welcomes Clay Conry, Cattle Rancher, Pastor, Dad, South Dakotan and host of the Working Cows Podcast to the Table. So much is said around beef, how it's raised, harvested and what's in it that we decided to get it straight from the horse's...we mean cow's mouth!

Host Sean McCoy invites his friend and Pastor Doug Robinson to reflect on the conversations with Hunter Maats, Jim Burgoon, Chris Cappello, Hayden Bruce and Alex Stein.
Given the special episode last week the reflection episode is a little late being released. Two episodes, Eli's and Mark's (Part 1), have been dropped but won't be covered in this episode. From now on to offset the abundance of episodes our reflection episodes will be dropped on Thursday's.

Mark Fiorello, step-brother of host Sean McCoy, accepts the invitation to Come to the Table and talk about his sexuality. Mark is married to his husband John and was one of the first people our host wanted to reach out to and have a discussion with around a topic that is volatile, divisive and stirs passion in people regardless of their spiritual beliefs.
