I will answer 2 of the most FAQs about red and copper hair colouring in this podcast episode. Listen to learn why and which option (semi or tint) is best to create beautiful and natural-looking reds for your clients when working behind the salon chair.

If you would like to establish yourself as the go-to-hairdresser for your dream clients but feel like you need more help & clarity on branding, you’re in luck! Because I am talking about all of these things with Hair + Beauty Branding + Marketing Educator – Jodie Brown.
Personal Branding and what you are posting on social media are not the same thing. You have probably been told to be successful as a hairdresser or salon owner you need to build a personal brand to attract clients.
Intentionally & authentically creating your brand as a salon professional will allow you to command higher prices, target the exact clients you want to work with, look and feel like a pro & quickly build that “know, like and trust” factor with your clients.
Building a clientele online is the most empowering ability and skill. Instagram is great because you can build a local audience to attract clients to your salon. It is made for beauty professionals to connect with other local businesses & local people. It is the best place to build a personal brand.

In this episode, we’re talking about LGBTQI+ visibility in the hair industry, pronouns, positive actionable steps for allies, and how to create a gender-affirming space and inclusive salon for all clients.
I live in Sydney Australia, which is the host city for this year's world pride, plus the annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is happening. I am thrilled to be speaking with an out and proud lesbian business owner, Megan Evans, about her colourful hairdressing career and the personal challenges during her journey of coming out to her clientele in a professional setting with support from family and friends.
Salon Owner & Educator Megan Evans has a passion for creative colour and technique and loves creating colours, cuts, and styles that are complimentary and flattering for her clients.
The hair and beauty industry has always been considered a safer space for people within the LGBTQI+ community, but we still have a long way to go with education, acceptance, and understanding of how to make sure as an industry that works so closely with our community and clients that we continue forward momentum.

A haircut could be affirming a look, including your gender.
Hair Has No Gender yet so many salons are still offering men's and women's haircuts. I commit to embracing diversity and eliminating discrimination in the hairdressing and beauty industry.
I am proudly a member of The Dresscode Project. The DCP is a global alliance of salons and barbershops committed to providing positive, gender-affirming services for LGBTQ+ clients.
My role as their Australian Change Maker is creating safer spaces with transparency around gender-free pricing and terminology within consultations and services through education.
I reached out to Jain Moralee, CEO of Twenty 10 in Sydney, Australia, during the 2023 Sydney World Pride to chat with us.
Twenty-10 work with people across Sydney and New South Wales who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and gender diverse, non-binary, intersex, questioning, queer, asexual and more (LGBTIQA+) people and others of diverse genders and sexualities, their families and communities. Together Jain and I helped to set up the very first gender-free haircut club in Australia a couple of years ago & wanted to share our experiences from the hairdresser and youth client perspective with our listeners.
In this podcast we discuss;
How to offer gender-affirming hair services
Strategies for hairdressers and salons to access training for LGBTQI+ inclusivity
How to host a gender-free haircut club for queer youth in your area
Organisations for online and in-person training
Plus so much more!

Have you ever faced challenging personal times in your life and felt like you needed to put a pretend smile on and keep working in the salon without sharing anything with your clients? Or perhaps you’ve overshared and you’re now wondering how to reset boundaries that feel more comfortable for you now.
In this episode, we’re discussing these questions and sharing self-care strategies to help hairdressers prevent burnout.
I understand from personal experience that hairdressing, when things are tough, is hard. It’s hard to manage our long hours and inflexible schedules as it is at times. It can be hard when you have to put the show on to pretend everything is ok.
It becomes even more challenging when you’re facing complicated life situations that could include a relationship breakdown, perhaps you’re caring for a parent or loved one with a terminal illness or a new diagnosis that is challenging, or you’re attending medical appointments yourself for treatments such as IVF or fertility support to name a few scenarios that are surprisingly common for us as humans that have chosen to work as hairdressers.
I'm talking with psychotherapist Hayley Jepson about how to take care of yourself in tough times.

Do you have clients coming to your salon showing Pinterest pictures for inspiration?
Wondering if having a Pinterest Business account is for you and your salon biz? In this episode, we answer that question.
We are talking with Pinterest TV Coach & Stylist Celeste Gonzalez to help us all learn more about the power of Pinterest for hair and beauty businesses. Pinterest is one of Celeste’s favourite platforms in her business and teaching her students to use it in their hair and beauty businesses.
Unlike any other social media, it is a search engine. It is a long-term platform that is evergreen with each post having a much longer active attraction than Instagram or Facebook.
Pinterest can lead you to a booking site, and website and most importantly grow your authority, and let's face it most of us hairdressers are educators & might be in the future.
Listen to learn how powerful Pinterest marketing can be for you and your hair biz!

Wondering if browning out with reds is avoidable? In this episode, we answer that question.
Reds and copper haircolours fade. They also "brown out", and I wonder why hairdressers are not talking about this more. Fading can be fought off with the right products between visits & suitable strategies in the salon.
I specialise in hair painting for redheads & I have so many new salon client requests every week in this niche area of hair colouring. One of the biggest problems my clients have experienced (before finding me) is going to a salon that didn’t know how to formulate red or copper consistently, or how to cover greys without fluorescent root glow and they have all struggled with fade.
I want to help you have the same success I do in new client attraction and retention with redheads.
