Finally, with Milwaukee likely to win their division, should the Crew want to get the top seed in the NL or should they go for the second-best record and aim for an easier path forward in October? We discuss that and a lot more on a very fun 50th episode of the Cold Brew Podcast.
Co-hosts David Gasper and Matt Carroll are back this week discussing the Milwaukee Brewers 2021 Trade Deadline. David and Matt discuss what Escobar will bring to the team as well as what this means for Keston Hiura and the rest of the guys on the Brewers roster. Also, we discuss other rumors happening as of right now and our thoughts on who the Brewers might still add to this team at the Deadline and what positions they need to get.
Host David Gasper is joined by the founder of Baseball Prospect Journal, Dan Zielinski, on the Cold Brew Podcast to discuss the Milwaukee Brewers 2021 Draft class. David and Dan take in-depth looks on how the draft played out and who the Brewers selected. The centerpieces of the Crew's draft were first round pick Sal Frelick, an outfielder from Boston College, Tyler Black, a second baseman from Wright State, and Alex Binelas, a third baseman from Louisville who's hometown is Oak Creek, Wisconsin. Also, the Brewers added several pitchers that seem to fall in line with previous trends and make a lot of sense for the organization. David and Dan also discuss the later round selections, including a possible major steal in the 11th round. For some great insight on the Brewers newest prospects and each of their selections, this is a great episode to get you familiar with them.

David, Matt, and Jake begin this week's episode by discussing the end of the first half of the season with the three losses to the Reds and where they stand heading into the All Star Break. David initiates another edition of "Conspiracy Corner" this week with a conspiracy theory on the poor umpiring in that series against the Reds. The All Star festivities were fun, including the Home Run Derby and the All Star Game, which featured several Milwaukee Brewers. Corbin Burnes' ASG performance wasn't great and what happened during Freddy Peralta's inning was a little irksome. Speaking of Peralta, David, Matt, and Jake discuss whether they would have Peralta as the Game 2 starter in a postseason series right now, and David gives a somewhat surprising answer.

Joe shares his knowledge about this draft class as a whole and his thoughts on the Brewers team needs to address in the draft, who he would pick for them, who he thinks they will pick, and when or if they should address the corner infield spots in this draft. Joe brings a lot of good information to help get Brewers fans prepared for the upcoming draft.
The Milwaukee Brewers have won nine straight games! Co-hosts David Gasper and Matt Carroll discuss the Crew's recent winning streak, including a series sweep over their bitter rivals, the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs series had some very interesting games, including a 10 run eighth inning in the first one and a 15 run comeback in the series finale. David and Matt discuss the craziness of those games and that series, including the wild ejection of hitting coach Andy Haines, during an 8 run inning! The Willy Adames addition has sparked this club and sparked a new jersey purchase for David. Also, Corbin Burnes and Kolten Wong both left Thursday's game against the Pirates with injuries, and we discuss the updates on both of those key players. It's a fun episode this week, and it's always fun to win and the Brewers are winning.

David, Matt, and BJ begin the episode by discussing Daniel Vogelbach's hamstring injury and what it means for him and first base. Keston Hiura has gotten the call back up to the big leagues. Is it too soon? David has some thoughts on how Hiura's early promotion might actually benefit the Brewers for this season. David, Matt, and BJ also talk about the "sticky stuff" crackdown and how poorly it's going, which makes it clear MLB is unable to just read the room and understand what's going on in the game of baseball. On the pitching staff, Brett Anderson's injury impacts the rotation and a couple of bullpen arms have made strong impressions as two top prospects in Aaron Ashby and Ethan Small have put themselves in good spots as well. Also, Matt decides to do something we haven't done yet on the Cold Brew Podcast. Check it out, this is a really fun episode this week.
Co-hosts David Gasper and Matt Carroll discuss the biggest Milwaukee Brewers news and topics in this week's Cold Brew podcast episode. After a hot stretch winning 17 of 21 games, the Brewers got swept by the Reds at home as the offense went stagnant. While there was a lot that went wrong in that series, one positive was Brett Anderson putting up a strong start, one you would expect from someone like Corbin Burnes instead, but Anderson felt like Burnes in a way he wouldn't want to as well with his lack of run support. The "sticky stuff" situation is reaching a head as MLB begins to crack down on it and David and Matt discuss how this could impact the Brewers staff and Brewers offense as well as the potential injury risk to pitchers. Jackie Bradley Jr.'s struggles at the plate have continued and it's getting to a point where people should be concerned not only for this year, but for what it'll mean for the outfield situation next year as well. Matt gives an update on the minor leagues to wrap things up.
Co-hosts David Gasper and Matt Carroll are joined this week by Brewer Nation's Adam Rygg. David, Matt, and Adam start this week's episode by discussing the recent hot streak the Brewers have been on since the acquisition of Willy Adames. The conversation turns to the recent injury of Travis Shaw and how long he might potentially be out and what the Brewers will have to do to cover third base in the meantime. Other topics discussed include the usage of Luis Urias, Keston Hiura going back down to Triple-A and the issues at first base, Aaron Ashby moving to the bullpen in Triple-A and what that means for his future and the Brewers bullpen, a little look at Joe Gray Jr and a few other prospects on the farm. The topic of the potential of Ryan Braun making a comeback begins at around the 44:00 mark as a recent Instagram video sparks hope that he might return to the Brewers in 2021.
Co-hosts David Gasper and Matt Carroll are joined this week by the host of Brewers Live on Bally Sports WI, Craig Coshun. Craig gives some quick thoughts on the upcoming Milwaukee Bucks series and tells his untold story about the creation of the phrase "Bucks in 6". Then we start the baseball discussion, looking at the recent addition of Willy Adames as the starting shortstop and how big of a role Adames played in sparking the winning streak the Brewers just went on. We get Craig's reaction to the trade as a fan and his thoughts on the move as a whole. David, Matt, and Craig then discuss Christian Yelich's struggles this season and whether he looks different than his usual self. Among the other topics discussed this week is Keston Hiura's struggles, who deserves All Star votes, and what it's been like working with Tim Dillard and Vinny Rottino on the Brewers live broadcasts.
Co-hosts David Gasper and Matt Carroll talk about all the latest Milwaukee Brewers news in this week's Cold Brew Podcast, and there is a lot to discuss. First, the big news of the week, which is the Crew's acquisition of Willy Adames from the Tampa Bay Rays. What does this mean for the Brewers future at shortstop? What does this mean for Luis Urias? What does this mean for the Brewers bullpen? All important questions to discuss. The Luis Urias/Trent Grisham trade is looking worse and worse and David is ready to make a final declaration on it. But was the move to demote Urias the right call or was it made too soon?
Then we discuss Keston Hiura's continued struggles at the plate and when it might be time to worry about Christian Yelich. Also, one big topic of discussion this year has been hitting coach Andy Haines. Should he be fired? David and Matt's stances on the topic might be starting to shift. Finally, discussion centers around the Josh Lindblom DFA and the Billy McKinney trade and the episode finishes with a Mailbag segment where we answer questions submitted from Twitter. A fun and informative episode this week! Enjoy!
Co-hosts David Gasper and Matt Carroll are joined this week by Grant Bilse, the host of the Wisco Sports Show on WKTY in La Crosse. Christian Yelich has returned but that hasn't quite sparked the offense like Brewers fans hoped he initially would. Is there reason to be concerned about him or the offense? The Brewers starting rotation has been excellent, but the run support they've been getting is subpar, which is wasting so many excellent starts from what is considered 3 Cy Young candidates. David, Matt, and Grant also discuss Tony La Russa's issues as manager down in Chicago, and even though it doesn't affect the Brewers, making light of La Russa's issues as manager is a fun time for all involved. About halfway through the episode, David, Matt, and Grant play "The Blame Game" regarding the Brewers offense. How much blame does each guy place on the five different categories: Andy Haines, David Stearns, the players, injuries, and Rob Manfred. Finally, the guys discuss Luis Urias' struggles and the future of the shortstop position. Enjoy!
Co-hosts David Gasper and Matt Carroll are joined this week by ESPN La Crosse's John Pappadapoulos. The episode is broken down into two sections, one about the good news and one about the bad news. The good news segment goes first and discusses the return and dominance of Corbin Burnes, the development of Freddy Peralta, the rotation as a whole, Christian Yelich and many others going on rehab assignments, and the expansion of the seating capacity at American Family Field. The Bad News segment starts around the 29:00 mark and goes over the Brewers struggles hitting the ball, especially with runners in scoring position, the lack of a right handed power bat, a Keston Hiura update, the lack of run support for the rotation, the need for a bat at the Trade Deadline, as well as the departures of Jacob Nottingham and Jordan Zimmermann. It's a fun and informative episode this week. Enjoy!
Co-hosts David Gasper and Matt Carroll are joined this week by Bally Sports Wisconsin host Dario Melendez. David, Matt, and Dario discuss the news of Christian Yelich's return from the IL and immediate return to the IL and our levels of concern over Yelich's recurring back issues. A slew of other injuries have also hit the ballclub and we discuss how they impact the team and how the Brewers have still been able to find success despite these injuries. The clubhouse culture the Brewers have built plays a large part in that, as well as the overall roster depth, as we discuss in further detail. Also among the topics discussed this week are Keston Hiura's demotion to Triple-A, the debut of Mario Feliciano, and Luis Urias' recent success as the plate. Enjoy!
Co-hosts David Gasper and Matt Carroll are joined this week by Matt Pauley, host of the Brewers pre- and post-game shows on WTMJ. David and the two Matts discuss at length the horrible ump show on Wednesday by Marty Foster and all the poor decisions by that umpiring crew that impacted the game. After that, we move to the choice of Zack Godley to get the spot start in place of Brett Anderson instead of some of the more expected options. Adrian Houser went yard of Daniel Castano and there was much to discuss there including the photo of Castano's reaction and the T-Shirt Houser was wearing. The Brewers are moving to a six-man rotation and we discuss how long that might stay in place and why there's reason to believe in Eric Lauer as a member of the rotation. We also discuss what to do with Keston Hiura at first base, when Christian Yelich and Lorenzo Cain will return, and the departure of Jacob Nottingham. Lots of fun in this episode and lots of good conversation. Enjoy!
Co-hosts David Gasper and Matt Carroll are joined this week by Steve "Sparky" Fifer, the host of the Wendy's Big Show on the Big Show Network and the host of Sparky's Midday Madness on 1250 AM The Fan. David, Matt, and Sparky discuss the absolutely unbelievable dominance of Corbin Burnes in the starting rotation this year, the also hard to believe struggles of Keston Hiura at the plate, and the out-of-nowhere strong performances from Billy McKinney. When is it time to worry about Hiura? What are their options with him if he continues to struggle at the plate? Then David and Matt have a discussion of their own about the Padres series sweep, the upcoming series against the Cubs and the shenanigans that happened in the last series against Chicago and David has some pointed words for the North-siders.
Co-hosts David Gasper and Matt Carroll are joined this week by former Brewers player and current Bally Sports WI analyst Vinny Rottino. David, Matt, and Vinny discuss his new job on the Brewers TV network as well as his previous job as a pro scout for the Rangers and how his perspective on the game has changed. Among the topics discussed were Keston Hiura's slump, what the causes are and how it can be fixed, the dominance of the rotation so far and how Corbin Burnes has turned himself into the best pitcher in the National League, and some stories from Vinny's playing days. Also, for the fans demanding Andy Haines be fired, Rottino gives a full defense of Haines and an explanation of what a hitting coach is there for and why Haines is the right man for the job.
Co-hosts David Gasper and Matt Carroll discuss a very busy week in Milwaukee Brewers baseball. First, David and Matt discuss the big news of the Orlando Arcia trade with the Atlanta Braves, talking about why it happened, who's coming back, and what happens next. Following up on David's bold prediction on last week's episode with Jeff Levering about a Brewers no-hitter this year, the Crew has had a couple of no-hit bids late into games, and the rotation has looked excellent. One player who hasn't looked excellent is Keston Hiura, and although David's been saying not to worry about Hiura, things have been looking rough through the first week. David and Matt discuss what might be wrong, and how he could be fixed, and that it needs to happen soon. Also, a couple of players are having strong bounce-back seasons worth mentioning, and the Brewers had an early season bench-clearing with the Cubs. At the end, David and Matt touch on Opening Day, and returning to the stadium for the first time in 18 months.
Co-hosts David Gasper and Matt Carroll are joined this week to preview the Milwaukee Brewers 2021 season by Brewers radio play-by-play announcer Jeff Levering. David, Matt, and Jeff discuss the return of baseball to the Cream City, where the team is coming out of spring training, and the importance of the return of fans to the ballpark. Having gone so long without fans has had a negative impact on everyone involved, and we discuss what it'll mean to have fans back and the impact it'll have on the team on the field. Also, we try to predict where the Brewers will end up in the standings at the end of the year and Jeff gives his bold prediction for the season. David offers up his five bold predictions and Jeff supports them, even if they are a little out there. Opening Day has finally arrived, and we'll get you ready for it and the rest of the season with this episode.
Co-hosts David Gasper and Matt Carroll are joined this week on the Cold Brew Podcast by Doug Russell of 97.3 The Game. David, Matt, and Doug start by discussing the dominant spring training performance of Garrett Mitchell and what his timeline to the big leagues could look like. Then the trio discusses the chances of Billy McKinney and Tyrone Taylor making the big league roster and how the Brewers will handle having so much depth across the roster and whittle it down to the 26 players on Opening Day. Among the other topics discussed are Josh Hader moving back to a traditional closer's role instead of the multi-inning fireman role, the battle for the 5th starter job, where does Daniel Vogelbach fit in if anywhere, as well as a theory on the plan for Jacob Nottingham, Brandon Woodruff being the Opening Day starter, and Christian Yelich getting back to normal.
Co-hosts David Gasper and Matt Carroll are joined this week by recently retired former Brewers pitcher Tim Dillard. David, Matt, and Tim share plenty of laughs talking about Tim's retirement and reminiscing on his career. Tim tells the stories of when he got drafted by the Brewers in 2001 and 2002, the story of his first big league call up, the 2008 and 2011 playoff teams he was a part of, and he tells a previously untold story about the day Zack Greinke was tossed from a start in Houston in 2012 after four pitches. Remember that? Tim tells a hilarious story of the aftermath and confusion of Greinke's ejection. Also, Tim shares one of his favorite Zack Greinke stories, talks about the creation of his MiLB Network videos on Twitter, talks about playing for the Milwaukee Milkmen last summer, and gives his thoughts on Ryan Braun's own comments on retirement and whether he should hang it up. Tim also tells a previously untold story of mocking Ron Roenicke and does a hysterical impression of Josh Hader telling the story of his call up, and another great impression of Ed Sedar. This is a can't miss episode of the Cold Brew Podcast.
