After a much-too-long break we are finally back with another episode. Thanks for being patient! This episode is a fun one. We talk to Dr. Joanne Kamens, the executive director of Addgene. Addgene is a non-profit repository that was created to help scientists share plasmids. When scientists publish research papers, they deposit their associated plasmids at Addgene. Then, when other scientists read the publication, they have easy access to the plasmids needed to conduct future experiments. Joanne is also the founding member of the Massachusetts chapter of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS). Join us for this chat about biology, research, technology and running the ‘Amazon for plasmids.’

She got her Ph.D at UC Davis and, while working on her degree, Wendy was also a professional NFL cheerleader for the Atlanta Falcons and Oakland Raiders. As if that weren’t enough, she’s also a part of Project MERCCURI, a joint team of scientists who study microbes on the International Space Station. No biggie. Hi folks! Get ready for a fun new episode with Dr. Tracy Fanara (@inspectorplanet). Tracy has a Ph.D in Environmental Civil Engineering from the University of Florida and is an expert on hydrology, civil design and sustainable development. She manages the environmental health program at Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, FL. So if you’ve ever been to Florida during red tide, you’ve probably heard some of her information and outreach. You also might also recognize her from The Science Channel’s Mythbusters: The Search. We discuss her experience on reality science TV, red tide, hurricane flooding and how likely Mumu is to fall into a sinkhole.
