SHOWTIME Boxing showcased the most talked about combat sporting event of the summer; a battle between former Strikeforce & UFC Welterweight Champion, ‘The Chosen One’, Tyron Woodley, taking it out on renowned YouTuber & social media sensation, Jake ‘The Problem Child’ Paul (3-0) at a cruiserweight of 190lbs, in a professional boxing exhibition match that was anticipated to make history! Paul was expecting to run his record up to 4-0, while Woodley was making his professional boxing debut.
This spectacle was easily the biggest challenge 24-year-old, Cleveland born influencer & master troll, Jake, has had in his short career. As well as his first time headlining a Showtime PPV event. So far, he gathered wins over another social media influencer, YouTuber AnEson Gibb, former NBA star guard, Nate Robinson, & one of Woodley’s friends, former UFC fighter Ben Askren. Much to the dismay of the MMA community, Paul quickly finished off Askren in their affair back on April 17th of this year.
This time around, Paul will be seeking some legitimacy with a ‘W’ over the 39-year-old Woodley; but ‘The Chosen One’ is by far a significantly more menacing striker than Askren was, having garnered nearly a half-dozen notable knockouts during his storied UFC career... Paul may get more than he bargained for this time around.
In the co-main event, they featured the return of Amanda ‘Real Deal’ Serrano as she was defending her unified Women’s Featherweight titles against Yamileth Mercado, as well as a battle between #TysonFury’s brother, reality TV star, Tommy ‘TNT’ Fury, against Anthony ‘Pretty Boy’ Taylor, which opened the card.
The ‘Real Deal’ is plausibly one of the best women’s boxers there is, period. She holds a legendary 40-1-1 record and has racked up no less than 30 knockouts over the years. Holding an 18-2 record, the title contender, is the last knockout Amanda needs to tie the all-time record by a woman regardless of weight class, which is currently held by the infamous ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’, Christy Martin.
Meanwhile, Fury has been rumored to be Paul’s next opponent in a clash later in the year. With a professional record of 6-0, ‘TNT’ is expected to blow out the ‘Pretty Boy’, as the oddsmakers favorite.
Also on the card, we had a Welterweight bout between Ivan ‘The Beast’ Barancyhk vs. Montana ‘Too Pretty’ Love, an exciting Heavyweight bout between Daniel ‘Dynamite’ Dubois & Juiseppe ‘Joe’ Cusumano.
