#12: Your baby can safely try 1 new food per day. You may have heard the advice to wait 3-5 days between trying new foods, but that is a recommendation for potentially allergenic foods. Yes, we do build in observation time after trying a new allergenic food a few times; but you do not have to wait 3-5 days between introducing all of the other low risk foods that are unlikely to cause a reaction.
In this episode I’ll explain how you can safely introduce 5 new foods per week using my 5-step feeding framework. Four of the 5 foods are low-risk foods and you can do 1 new food per day. On the fifth day you offer a potentially allergenic food and do that food a few times over the next few days, observing for any reaction.
Research shows us that babies who are exposed to the greatest variety of foods, flavors, tastes and textures early and often are MORE likely to become independent eaters and are LESS likely to be picky eaters. You can fast-track your baby to success with baby-led weaning using this 5-step feeding framework.
If you’re ready to raise an independent eater and prevent picky eating then let’s get started learning about baby-led weaning together! Subscribe, rate and review the podcast here.
