Injuries may be a "part of the game," but it never gets easier to see them happen. The Arizona State Sun Devils football program fell victim to the injury bug when captain Michael Matus (defensive end) went down Monday, August 15 with a torn ACL in his left knee. Matus was coming off a career-best season for the Sun Devils and was expected to be one of the most heavily relied on players in 2022 following several departures on the defensive line, particularly Jermayne Lole to the NCAA Transfer Portal (Louisville). Matus's loss will be challenging to overcome in more than one aspect, but there are a few different directions Arizona State can go in replacing his production. Anthonie Cooper will likely get the first crack for the starting role with some healthy competition from Joe Moore and Gharin Stansbury pushing him, as well. Could the Arizona State Sun Devils also get creative and flex one of their interior defensive linemen like Omarr Norman-Lott or B.J. Green to the outside? Host Richie Bradshaw gives his analysis on the situation and how the Arizona State Sun Devils football program should move forward with this loss on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.
