CES used to stand for Consumer Electronics Show - but they dont want us to call it that anymore - or the Chinese Electronics Show, or - this year, the Covid Electronics Show since many people believe it to have been a super spreader (although neither Nevada officials OR the CTA would release any covid-related data from the show). But it is primarily a commercial event so the main attendees are buyers and sellers. Thats their core audience, people who want to find distributors or suppliers. The only other group they allow in are the media. CTA, the group that organizes the show, wants their exhibitors to get exposure to increase the value they offer them, so the media is welcome. If you are not a member of one of those groups or a CTA employee or contractor, CTA will not let you in. Youre not missing that much, its normally an overcrowded event and the majority of exhibitors are selling pretty boring things. The highlights that you hear on our shows are really the best products that we see on the show floor, but the majority of what is shown off is relatively boring day to day stuff like phone cases, cheap cables, knockoff robotic vacuums, car speakers, and so forth.
