July 16th: Helen Betty Osborne Born (1952) Most women have been taught to fear walking alone at night. No doubt a product of stories like the one we are telling today. On July 16th 1952 a young, bright, and driven young woman was born who, seeking to further her education, moved away from her community. A woman whose case may have sat at a standstill because of her sex and, more importantly, her race.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Helen_Betty_Osborne, http://www.ajic.mb.ca/volumell/chapter1.html, http://www.ajic.mb.ca/volumell/chapter3.html, https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/helen-betty-osborne-50-years-1.6242973, https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/helen-betty-osborne-the-cree-woman-whose-brutal-murder-helped-expose-racism-in-the-justice-system-1.5665028, https://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/15-canadian-stories-helen-betty-osborne-a-murder-that-resonates-50-years-later Learn more about your ad choices.
