Robert and Daniel interview Drag Race fan favorite Barbie's "other" sister, Trixie Mattel.
Trixie Mattel is made of sugar, spice, and everything nice. While on Season 7 of RuPaul's Drag Race, she quickly became a fan favorite. Her dark sense of humor and over-the-top makeup - and that's saying a lot for a drag queen - made her stand out from other queens who were serving fish and beauty beats. Trixie is in no way concerned with creating a female illusion; everything about her aesthetic is intended to evoke the exaggerated features and proportions of the dolls little girls play with - and that little boys steal from them. However, underneath the swaths of pink; 99 pounds of makeup; padding 3 feet deep; and hair that would rival Lady Bunny's, is a boy from Milwaukee who took "Trixie" - his stepfather's derogatory nickname for him - and used it as a vehicle for empowerment. Visually, Trixie is quite disarming, and tends to get away with everything short of murder. In her show, "Ages 3 and Up," she explores the darker side of her life experiences, using comedy as a tool for catharsis. It provides a peek behind the eyeliner at Brian Firkus, the man who mans the helm of the SS Trixie! Listen as we talk about her summer residency in Provincetown, traveling across the country with a busload of queens, and "UNHhhh," her YouTube series with Katya Zamolodchikova.
