Submit ReviewAre the Giants going to sign Trevor Story? MLB Network's Jon Heyman tweeted this morning that the Giants were among four finalists for Story, and that he was open to short-term position changes if necessary. This would seem to fit the Giants' needs, as Story's natural position, shortstop, is taken up by Brandon Crawford.
The Giants have an opening at second base, with Tommy La Stella rehabbing from offseason Achilles surgery. Story would presumably play second, and could fill in and shortstop and third base as needed. He could also potentially play the outfield, an area where the Giants do have some needs and openings. However, Giants president of baseball ops Farhan Zaidi said yesterday that the position player group is "pretty set" and that they didn't feel the need to add more pieces.
Also on today's show, Ben addresses mailbag questions. Among the questions asked and answered are:
Will Zaidi sign a free agent to a contract worth $100 million or more in the next three seasons?
Are the Giants ever going to make that big splash signing?
How does this lineup look against left-handed pitchers? I feel like it’s weak, yet they feel completely okay with what they have. They traded for a right-handed hitter last year because they needed one, and then lose Buster Posey.
Can the hitting coaches help get Joc Pederson back closer to pre-2020 numbers realistically (OPS+ above 100)?
