This is Hawthorne's retelling of Hercules’ search for three golden apples. Along the way he meets the Old Man of the Sea, a six-legged man creature and the mighty giant, Atlas. This story also features the Hesperides. In Greek mythology, they are the nymphs of evening and golden light of sunsets.
