Michael and Ethan conclude their discussion of The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman, by Laurence Sterne. They punish each other, but this one isn’t explicit.

In this episode:

The show must go on… I feel like we’ve had this bullet point before

We find out the moral of the show

There is emotional whiplash

There is talk about modeling, but not in an exciting way

We flirt with it being the Us Arguing Words podcast

Instead, it’s the Uncle Toby Podcast, and that is a VERY GOOD THING that WE ALL WANT

Ethan says “inversely parallel” and Michael lets him get away with it

But to be fair, Michael called the Ring of Power a Mcguffin

Advice for newlyweds

Ethan (mistakenly) cites Pavel’s The Lives of the Novel but then paraphrases Schmidt’s The Novel: A Biography. Both are worth reading.

Michael does, like, a weird… late night DJ thing? That Ethan didn’t get to hear until the edit? Sorry for leaving that in.

For reference: An Irish Airman Foresees His Death, by WB Yeats.

Next episode they’ll talk about The Playboy of the Western World, by JM Synge. (Also worthwhile/the volume Ethan gave Michael: Synge’s Complete Works.) Join the discussion!
