Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says the Greens have been sent a message by voters in Queensland, seizing on the state election results and calling on the party not to block progressive reforms.

The Greens had hoped to extend their presence in the state but are battling to hold their two Brisbane seats.

It comes as Labor's 'help to buy' housing scheme is likely to be debated again in the federal parliament next month.
