Floyd Sartin & Harlin Thomas ll. From the east-side of Detroit to the nation's capital, how did these two decide to “see it and be it” The owner’s of MochaBox Coffee made their childhood dreams of success into reality. Not that there weren’t a few obstacles placed in their path along the way. With drugs and gangs in the neighborhood’s they grew up in, what are the statistical chances for success? Does it make a difference who you surround yourself with? Each separately decided to change their trajectory, and with that move the “coffee world” is better for it.This week we hear all about breaking into the coffee business with no previous background in java. Let’s start with their homage and a coffee brand name entering into their origin story. The Black Bottom area in Detroit, was originally named by early French colonial settlers for the dark, fertile topsoil found in the area. More importantly to our story it later became a thriving entrepreneurial black community, a cultural musical and business hub. That brings us to the MochaBox connection and their roast Black Bottom, that pays homage to their Detroit roots and that period of time. “Lively” medium dark, floral notes,and hints of honey, designed for everybody.
