From the Digital Box Set: This week, we look at the use of hit songs in advertising. It started in a big way back in 1983, with the movie The Big Chill. A huge part of the movie's success was based on its soundtrack, which featured over 20 of the biggest hits from the '60s and '70s. When Madison Avenue saw just how much hit songs resonated with baby boomers, it opened the floodgates. To this day, hit songs have been one of the advertising industry's most influential tools - but it wasn't without some interesting bumps along the way.
