Many women feel the need to quit running as soon as they see two blue lines but is it necessary? Helping us get to the bottom of this this week is Bridgid Picket (@trail.bird.mama), an ultramarathon runner and trail running enthusiast who made headlines is the first pregnant cover model of Runners World, and Charlie Launder (@charlielaunder), founder of bumps and burpees, who for years has been changing the narrative that pregnancy means sitting on the sofa for nine months.

Topics covered:

How to calm anxieties about exercising in the early stages of pregnancy

How to manage effort and heart rate

Why exercise feels tougher during pregnancy

Essential strength exercises during pregnancy

How to navigate fitness as a new mum

My experts' best advice advice:

1. Build up to running after birth. Running should not be your first activity back, instead start working on low impact activities such as reformer pilates and yoga to compliment some strength training designed to make sure you stay fit and strong as your baby grows.

2 . Be patient with yourself and listen to your body. Your body is your best indicator. If it feels like too much, then most probably it is so take a rest when you need and be forgiving of yourself and your new normal, paces and times. As Brigid says, running with your baby should be special, not a chore!

Tips for Running with Kids:

1. Remain flexible - not everything will go to plan all the time and that's totally fine!

2. Planning ahead and having a routine really helps too. Plan your week ahead to start making running part of you and the families routine by incorporating runs in with the school run for example is a great way for training to work for the whole family.

This episode is aimed to empower us to keep exercising confidently and happily throughout pregnancy and after.
