Napster came out of nowhere, was the biggest thing in the world, and then disappeared just as quickly. What really happened? In the late 90s, the music industry was on the verge of change. Many were concerned about the growing popularity of the Internet, and how digital files could be easily shared from home to home. Could this have some kind of lasting effect on sales of albums somewhere down the line? But all that changed when a new program popped out seemingly out of nowhere: Napster. And it did everything that the music execs feared. It let anybody shared any music for free. Over the next couple of years the program exploded in popularity, but it was steeped in legal trouble almost immediately. And then it was gone. So what really happened in the fascinating tale of the rise and fall of Napster? On this very special season finale of Deep Cuts, we explore that very question...in musical form.
