Rachel Cullen describes her journey to better mental health through labelling and running. Her personal journey is filled with useful and relateable insights

Rachel Cullen is a writer, blogger, author and runner, as well as a reformed ex-commercial litigation solicitor! Additionally though, Rachel suffered from bipolar disorder and body dysmorphia and spent many years feeling trapped and miserable, using Prozac and alcohol to live a life that to her wasn t authentic. Eventually though she turned to running and fitness to Cullen-Photo.jpeg">Cullen-Photo-200x300.jpeg" alt="" width="200" height="300">change her life and her debut book Running For My Life details her journey from bipolar non-runner to medal-winning marathon runner.

In this podcast, Rachel picks up on how the negativity of being labelled has affected her over the years. From being an academic child steered away from sport, Rachel become the career professional appearing to have everything but hiding mental health issues, to the runner winning 20k road races and putting up best for age times in the London Marathon seemingly without any effort.

Rachel highlights how labelling can eliminate possibilities by putting people into a pigeon holes and then stops them from evolving into their next challenge. She also talks about how the empowerment she found in running gave her the strength and resilience to deal with her inner chimp as well as deal with her mental health issues.
