Quin Snyder met with the media in Utah Monday, and while he didn't explicitly say "I'm not leaving the Jazz to go coach the Lakers," he made it pretty clear he's not intending to go anywhere. The Jazz have made it clear they're not firing him. So while he was surely a long shot anyway, it's pretty clear now that Quin Snyder won't be the next coach of the Lakers. Where does that leave them?
With a bunch of lower profile candidates, most of whom will be very hard to separate in concrete terms. So that means they'll have to decide the qualities they seek, and the type of team they want to build and choose accordingly. That's a process question, and one the Lakers have struggled with of late.
So far, though, the process has looked pretty good! A diverse list of names, no groups included or excluded for dumb cosmetic reasons. Will it continue.
Meanwhile, Monday's show included a lot of talk about Mark Jackson and reasons he might not be the best choice for L.A.. It generated a lot of commentary on the Locked On Lakers YouTube page. How much does Jackson's open, strong Christian faith (he's an ordained minister who tied that faith into his coaching with Golden State) count as a strike against him? Is the media (including the hosts of this show) being unfair on that end?
Finally, how important is it the Lakers find a coach who can handle Russell Westbrook? Reports have noted that the bad chemistry between Russ and Frank Vogel was an important factor in letting Vogel go. But he's going to be traded, right? Well...
