Today my guest is Tom E. Brown. His films have screened at over 100 festivals around the world. They've earned several awards--including a Golden Spire from the San Francisco International Film Festival. Tom's films have been featured at the American Museum of Natural History, the Walker Art Center, and the Guggenheim. His work has been televised nationally and internationally, airing on PBS, Bravo, TLC, and The Independent Film Channel.
I had Tom on to discuss his over 10 years in the making feature-length debut Pushing Dead.
The film premiered at San Francisco's Castro Theatre in June of 2016 at the Frameline Film Festival and won the Best Feature Audience Award.
When a struggling writer, HIV positive for 20+ years, accidentally deposits a $100 birthday check, he is dropped from his health plan for earning too much. In this new era of sort of universal care, can he take a helpless bureaucracy but also come up with $3000 a month to buy meds on his own? Welcome to the world's first AIDS comedy.
Starring James Roday ("Psych"), Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon), Robin Weigert ("Jessica Jones") and Khandi Alexander ("CSI: Miami"); written and directed by Tom Brown and produced by Chris Martin, Richard Lagravenese ( a name that I frequently mispronounce), and Jim Bloom, PUSHING DEAD will be screening at
