The PSNI in Carrickfergus have instructed the public "exercise begins and ends at your front door". The PSNI have also said a citizen is not allowed to get into their car and drive somewhere for exercise. If this happens, they say " this will not be tolerated no matter what your excuse, we will ask you to return home immediately." Now - we all have responsibility as citizens to stay in the house when we can - that will save lives. Those people having parties, or ignoring social distancing rules are risking peoples lives. It is idiotic to ignore government advice. But it is also right that - even in a time of crisis - that this programme scrutinises the power of the state and the police. It is not a free for all. Citizens do not lose all those rights during this pandemic. And the police cannot make up the law as they go along. There is nothing in the legislation that allows the PSNI to restrict exercise to our front doors. If Stormont wants to legislate to that effect, then they can do so. But they haven't. Stephen spoke to commentators Jamie Bryson and Amanda Ferguson, and we hear from UUP Cllr Glenn Barr.
