The spirit of giving is alive and well in one Haliburton Highlands community. We checked in with the Minden Community Food Centre. We went to Collingwood to hear how the town embraced victims of human trafficking and gained new members of the community. Indigenous singer Leanne Betasamosake Simpson shared her thoughts, and her talents, in support of Ontario food banks. Food is not the only thing to share with those in need. Clothing is also something many Ontarians need, especially in winter. We got advice on how you can make the most impact with your clothing donations. You might be familiar with the tiny free libraries that pop up on people's lawns. But have you ever seen a tiny free pantry? We spoke to three individuals who are putting food right out in public to get it to those in need. One of the hardest decisions somebody can make is to walk through the door of a food bank. Hear how The Sharing Place in Orillia creates a welcoming place for anybody in need. Sarah and Georgia Harmer share a family tie, a love of music, and a record label. It's not surprising that they were willing to merge their talents in that duet for our special Sounds of the Season program. Julianne Hazlewood takes a food bank in Orillia that created a school nutrition program to fill the void during the pandemic. After leaving Aleppo in 2016 for Canada , a Syrian couple found a new home in Kingston. Today, they share food with their Canadian neighbors to give back and say thank you to the community that welcomed them back then.
