Taiko, Humming and the Brain Coach Olympia Coffee Roasters 2601 N Proctor St, Tacoma, WA 98406 This week the Roadshow heads up the Pacific Coast Highway to Olympia Coffee Roasters, in Proctor/Tacoma Washington, to visit one of their six stores. Olympia Coffee's success is simple.Quality Coffee plus Quality of Life. Their mission statement is to improve the quality of life for coffee farmers, staff and customers. A tall order, but one that locals seem to agree they are completing, on a daily basis. They have direct trade partnerships with coffee farmers worldwide in eight countries across 3 continents. A local company that started in a warehouse in downtown Olympia,in 2005. The story of great quality (life and coffee)continues to unfold at Olympia Coffee Roasters. Meet a cupping specialist at Olympia Coffee Roasting, Patrick Oiye. It is all about trying multiple coffees, much like wine tasting, to find out what you really like. He traveled to Hawaii to study the art of Taiko. What was supposed to be an 11 month course turned into six years. What did he learn, and what exactly is Taiko? Was it fate, cosmic collision or was it programmed into his genetics? How did the West Coast World War II internment camps fuel his quest for family history, and connection.
