The decision to have genetic screening to evaluate for genetic problems with your baby is a big decision. The most common type of genetic screen is what’s called a noninvasive prenatal screen (NIPS), which is a blood test that screens cells that enter your (mom) blood circulation from the placenta.  NIPS is a pretty good test!  It has a high detection rate for Down syndrome and a few other common genetic abnormalities.  BUT, this test can screen for a lot of stuff… some of which are super rare. What’s the issue with that, you ask?
